JAZZ TO JAZZ
JOAN CHAMORRO - Hudba
I am not going to say anything about the top notch performance here...it brought me tears of joy. It is my birthday in abut 50 minutes and I want to thank Joan Chamarro for all that he has done for the world of jazz. If not for him and his efforts, all the talent we see here on You Tube everyday would never have happened. How full must his heart be to have done such wonders. I want to thank you Maestro for this birthday present you have been giving me all this year. I have reached 85 successfully and I never thought I would. The music you are responsible for has buoyed me up and a wonderful light of jazz music keeps this old brain smiling and deliriously happy. Here I am again listening to this for the umpteenth time. Can't get enough. Holy Moses!!
First she sings the birds out of the trees ,And oh ..almost forgot, then she picks up the trombone ! Is there no end to this "madness"?
I'm addicted to these people!!!!!
Me Too
I Am So Addicted, Want To Go To Barcelona, And Be Among The Catalonians Listen To These Beautiful People Ron From USA
Hell yes
I don't know how I've missed this one until now. This is a very nice, soft, lightly swinging version of the tune. Scott's face lights up in the middle of Rita's trombone solo. Then, of course, his own solo is just perfect. I think the nicest part of watching these people is seeing the way they enjoy and respect each other so much.
Yes indeed, ‘enjoy and respect each other’, beautiful musical synergy!
played this for my friend, a VERY well known Alto Sax Jazzman here in USA....African American in his 80's still performing, originally from Detroit, a colleague of Barry Harris....He was stunned. Stunnned. Said, "how old is she?" Then I played West Coast Blues....again, stunned by her solo....
Joan Chamorro's cover notes for the CD "Joan Chamorro Presenta Rita Payés"
"Rita Payés (14-15 years old, while recording) is a trombonist and singer, but mostly she’s music, in every sense of the word, and a great person ... «She joined Sant Andreu Jazz Band only one year ago, and I’ll never forget the emotion she caused me when I heard her sing Stars fell on Alabama for the first time (issued as part of this record), with a very personal voice, sometimes sharp, sometimes broken, nuanced, perfectly toned and rich in rhythmic contribution. Plus, as a trombonist, she has a clear sound, round, very direct.» -Joan Chamorro"
Rita! Rita! Rita! Sooooooo GOOOOOOD!
Please Put On Long Solo Of Rita Payes Playing Trombone, She A Strong And Lovely Player. My First Instrument of Study in the Early 60s.
GRacias!
Yo tambien
Mucho
Si
So good. In love with Joan Chomorro's straight-up jazz
The song is based on an especially brilliant display of the Leonid meteor shower in the year 1833, supposedly hundreds or even thousands of "shooting stars" that night.
Rita is great. Her rendition of this classic is masterful. Andrea’s trumpet and Scott’s sax add stars to the midnight sky. And the pianist and drummer have the lovers dancing on the ballroom floor.
That trombone closing the piece was wow!
Music has no gender, no age, no nationality. It is wonderful to see talented teenagers playing along silver backs with such confidence and maturity. These girls have soul. Thanks for sharing.
Well said
Silverbacks...yes indeed! Great metaphor for the talent Joan brings in to these kids for inspiration and from whom to learn jazz...if it can be taught! I think Joan finds the kids who have it and nurtures them.
The Young Lady on Trombone is Fantastic, A diffucult instrument to Play.
The Young Ladies playing and Singing American Standards are Fantastic.
Billie, is that you? Takes my breath away. Joan, what beauty and joy you are sending into the world. You must be a very happy guy to have created all of this. Thank you!
. jazzzzlvr Thought same-listened to Lady Day’s Stars- Rita copied nothing. Flat out fantastic.
Bravo Rita, and... That is the way a solo has to be played.
It's raining stars in Barcelona !
These young ladies are so talented
Makes you glad you are alive!!
Great that young musicians can play the American Songbook with such a great talents. In stead of playing scales in impressive tempo where the music is gone. Thank you Chamorro for bringing out these super talented youngsters. And how smart it is to mix in world top musician like Scott Hamilton.
Rita does an amazing job with this lovely song. I love to hear her sing. Beautiful voice, very talented young lady and cute as a button.
Roberto cruz thompson: Professional music players combined with superb young talents .Beautifull jazz music brought from yesterday with new vitality and sensuality. Ok for jazz
Thank you Joan Chamorro for your wonderful contribution to the arts !
.
It's so good being retired. So I can listen to this stuff all day. Thanks to Joan & all participants. Wonderful! 😘🎷🎼
Me too, man!
Pat, I was just thinking the exact same thing.
Exactly, and man, do I need this now.
Me too. I could live on Jazz music all day in THIS COVID-19 lock down period. Serve me music by Sant Andrau band with Scott Hamilton for breakfast, lunch and supper any day.
I've listened to this at least 30 times
Me too
@@944gemma I stopped counting
Rita beyond gorgeous and amazing performance
Please dont stop the music! I listen every night for hours...
There must be something in the water in Barcelona, it is now producing the best jazz in the world.
Michael Nolte I can't believe how good those kids are. They have some great instructors I guess.
Are you reaching anybody's soul with it, "genius"? Post a couple with 400,000+ views. There is magic in this Barcelona jazz. I love it.
Credit has to go to Joan Chamorro - and in particular that there are so many women involved - on all the instruments.
I love hearing a band composed of both men and women. This is great.
And, I have to say, Rita Payés is a miracle - both as a singer and trombone player. What a beautiful sound she gets on that instrument - and her singing - reminds me of Billie Holiday - really pure.
@ geniusimprovisor - You don't know what you're talking about "genius" ... In the states - fast, loud and a million notes signifying nothing.
Yess s .I try not to miss one. Here.Rita P.broke our hearts...isn't she something ?
Beautifully sung Rita. I love the way you drift gently from note to note. And every note is pitch-perfect. Let's have more of this, and more of your trombone-playing, too.
Thank you for keeping the art of jazz alive.
Love the way Rita sings this beautiful .
It all fits together perfectly, Rita's sweet jazz voice and trombone, Scott's smooth sax, and the Chamorro quintet backing it all. I loved it the many times I've played it.
I Have To Say Joan I Discovered This Wonderful Music Purely By Accident, Glad I Did, Ron From New Jersey USA.
Incredible Rita Payes❤❤❤
I am totally in love with Rita Payes!! Specially when she sings the bossa nova songs! And when she plays the trombone stars fell into my heart tonight...!! Thank you Joan Chamorro!
YES
I am in love with both Rita and Andrea. Indeed I absolutely love this set of Jazz geniuses, who are producing the best of that genre I have heard in many years. Consequently I am addicted to them.
@@davidbrown8763 Have you heard "Triste" performed by Alba Armengou? Oh boy!
GuillermoLowe That’s what got me hooked on everyone here. I love that recording!
Love you say? How many of you went out at 69 and bought a trombone?
We need this music to make a comeback
Of all places the American Standards Song-book is kept alive/rejuvenated from Spain thru these very enthusiastic young Jazz talents from Barcelona. For me is Ignasi, the (not so young) pianist the unsung hero. He has a beautiful touch and interpretation of these Jazzy classic songs with unlimited improvisations and gently breezin’ swing! Dig/Enjoy/cheers!
It seems that Joan has a factory producing top class jazz musicians. Well done Joan
Joan's super talented Beauties. Super hip. Band equals a rare treasure to keep the Music Advancing. Thanks Joan you guys are terrific!
What a really solid professional Scott Hamilton is, must be an inspiration to the young musicians
I've not heard it better than this. Cheers!
I never tire of listening to this group. Too bad we don't have more of this in the USA.
quite agree with you
Janni Ronni ...I agree too. I would love to see these guys in New Orleans.
Me Too!
These gals......?
I want see this group on festival “Jazz on Red Sea “in Elat,Israel on next August.Wonderfull!
Scott Hamilton is still one of the best & inventive minds in Jazz. Tastefull! Rita is on track to move audiences worldwide.
Scott Hamilton is so underestimated, He never plays a not that makes no sense, Always nice an melodic, singable stuff, That is way harder to do than running scales up on down at fast tempos. Most people don't get it and would say he is just ok. Scatt plays the way it should be for people to listen, not for musicians.
Thank you Joan Chamorro for the beautiful music and very talented musitions
It’s worth adding to Paul J’s comment on Rita’s horn, that it’s a much larger instrument, with a larger bore, than the usual trombones which jazz players use. You see horns like that in symphony trombone sections. The advantage is that it puts out a bigger and richer sound; the disadvantage is that it’s much much harder to control. To have taken on that kind of challenge at fifteen, and to make it work as she does, says a lot about Rita personally, all of it in considerable admiration.
Very interesting and thank you for the information, Harry.
A good remark. Jazz players rarely use the kind of trombone Rita Payés used in these early recordings. (tenor trombone with quart valve and larger bore+bell) When writing this comment, Payés has been playing a standard tenor trombone for several years.
Totally agree; I played bass trombone for years which limits your range but gives a big fat sound.
Such beautiful solos on a great standard!! Rita -amazing feeling!!
Rita you are amazing and you make every day my day...🎼🤗😊🥰😍🎵🎶🎶❣️
I just can’t get over this extreme talent! Glad I found it.
Wish I was in Alabama, A great State And Speaking of Great the Young Ladies Singing and Musicians Playing.
I supposed to be working but I just watch song after song. I didn't make a discovery like this in many years, thank you Joan for this channel and your work! I'm just falling in love to every song and every one of those beautiful ladies :)
Whatever "it" is, Rita has it!
Well said
My only issue with her singing is that you can't understand half of what she is saying when she sings English. That being said, her Portuguese is spot on.
@@spktrudat2380 I understand her !
@@joseceraia that's great, glad someone does
She remainds me a bit of Ella, I dont know If is the tone of her voice or the way that she sings. Whatever, its amazing...
What an amazing talent in Rita Payes. Joan, thank you!
Can't believe that Rita Payes is 15. What a future!
First time I ever heard this version, most excellent. Loved the horns loved the vocals.
This has to be a dream! Don't anybody wake me up. ❤🎶🦋
At least we now know that Rita didn't end up merely adding class to a shallow regaeton rapper. (The videos of some performances show her openly laughing at CPT's antics.) Since then she has worked with very many musically worthy, popular performers from Oques Grasses to Jon Batiste and so many others. (I counted over twenty collaborations since 2021!) The jazz has been exceptional; adventurous with Kaleidoscope, mainstream with WDR and singing perfection with Enrique Oliver and Jaume Llambart...
@@fliprim Yes, I already said a while ago in another post that I should not be so harsh and fundamentalist with Rita when she goes down somewhat "unexpected" paths. Like everyone in our lives, sometimes we get it right and other times we get the big slap in the face. I am and will continue to be an absolute admirer of Rita, whatever she does, because as you say, my friend, the vast majority of the time she gets it right and makes us enjoy her talent.
Rita Payes es extraordinaria. Súper talento.
This is gorgeous what a talent this young lady is she and Andrea will have a great future in music both very classy performances and of course the musicianship is flawless

Tantas y tantas veces que he escuchado a tan marvilloso grupo.
Scott..Rita..Andrea...& Joan & the Piano + the Drummer......I do watch this song...always...nice nice play. Rita play a roll here...
..so nice. Son una Banda...muy muy buena......Gracias
Love the arrangement and talent of these young people!
Rita, Andrea, and Scott, loved your solos. Terraza's playing as usual is wondeful. Thanks Joan Chamorro for fostering the growth & teaching of young exceptionally talented musicians through the years.
This is my favourite from Rita Payes and I like a lot of her stuff. She has that lilting, understated yet expressive and natural blues voices and cadences, I love it. It's a treasure to listen to.
I must have been living in a box or something, How come I have never heard of these fantastic musicians? thanks for bringing them to me......
I discovered them 6 months ago having very little knowledge & experience of Jazz they’ve transformed my music taste. Even bought a saxophone!
Grande Rita ! Bravo !
Andrea Motis, Rita Payes, and others... I have no problem hearing the "American" songbook sung with a Spanish lilt --- make it breathe, make it live! Now I know Barcelona is the place to go to see some Jazz in its newer life. Thank you Joan Chamorro and group!
Wonderfully talented musicians. Wow how good are these youngsters. Stars Fell on Alabama is one of my favorite tunes from Jack Teagarden and she really nails it. Scott Hamilton an old friend from Pizza Express Days in the 80's, great to see him agin playing so beautifully.
she is a star!wjo atlanta
Scott Hamilton...Tone....fantastic
I can only say thank you, thank you so much! I'm buying all your recordings, not only for my own sheer pleasure, you deserve all the support and reward for your extraordinary work
stars fell on barcelona.....maybe love this girl and her trombone
My gosh !
Those kids are truly beautiful in their performance! Took a few listens to feel and hear the incredible talent, not only as singing artist and playing instruments, but as tender musicians having a wonderful evening whit the silver gents.
The girl singing is doing a marvelous job
By far the nicest and cutiest performance of this magnificant piece of jazz ever...😊❤

GRACIAS !
4:57 - Watch Andrea get ready to close it, then immediately yield as she saw Rita going for it. Team spirit, then and ever.
It was two girls playing a trick on the standup bass player, who is the band leader. They planned it. Watch his face.
@@jeffreyhamer3107 - Trick? What trick do you mean? His face at what time?
What I saw was that both the trumpeter and the saxophonist were ready to play the last bars, but when they saw the singer pull up her trombone, they backed down and let her do it. It was her turn up front, and they respected it.
The trumpet and saxophone played the notes that they were supposed to play to help set up the ending. There was no yielding. There were no tricks.
Love you Rita!!!
Hablamos. Te. Estimo.
Se. Te. Ve. Linda
Yo. Aquí. Solo

Lovely interpretation by this great group. Congratulations to Rita Payes, Scott Hamilton, Andrea Motis and Scott Hamilton, including the rest of the members of this group not mentioned.
Ihr seid einfach toll 👍🏼 Super Show!
Enjoyed this as much as the definitive rendition of this great standard - Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Buddy Rich - praise indeed, since that was one of the most perfect jazz recordings ever made. Joan Chamorro and his seemingly endless galaxy of talented young musicians, and the great Scott Hamilton, are an absolutely amazing breath of fresh air and a joy - just brilliant!
Yes, agreed. All fantastic. Love all of these great musicians and these arrangements! Super inspiring. I can't get enough. Thanks, Joan Chomorro and all!
Take a look at the trick the two girls played on Joan on the last part of the song. Andrea looked like she was going to play it, but Rita did it at the last minute-- look at Joan's expression. Kids like to play tricks on their teachers.
Mr. Drummer Man. Nice timekeeping.
