Please be aware that when you buy these on Amazon, it's very likely that the external mic for the V50X will pop up as a suggested accessory. It does NOT work with the V50 Pro or Pro SE!
But there is an available v50 Pro mic too that does work. Just a heads up.

It is in the BUDGET camera category which means it will never be as good as a GoPro. If you use it on a bike, I'd suggest you have it on your body or helmet and not your handlebars.

I bought one of these about a year ago. I've had it attached to my ATV now for about 2500 miles of offroading. It does great. Best $200 I've ever spent on cameras.

I've had one for a few months now. Great for the price and you get a lot of accessories. Does well when filming drone videos. Not so great in low light.

Cap'n - fantastic comprehensive review of a great little Action Cam - I'm thinking this is probably one of your best reviews of a static item to date!! (ie. no propellers or wheels!) This video obviously took you a considerable time time to film and edit, so 5***** and thanks for your time. I found the camera on Ebay UK for £93 inc. shiping which is a pretty good price - I've been considering a DJI Action Cam for a while now - but let's see how this lower cost alternative performs? - not a big risk purchase as I see it at the price, especially with all the included accessories 😍😍

I went with the Akaso V50 Elite due to it having 4K60p. So far I'm pretty impressed with these budget action cams from Akaso.
Should of gone with the akaso v50 pro se , it was even on sale for 120. It also has 4k60 , and it has way better colors and audio quality.
I'm with Jeisson, I have all of the V50 series cams and the elite is the bottom of the list for me. It's still pretty good... but not worth the extra 1/3 the cost. V50 X is the best, V50 PRO SE, then this V50 Pro. I guess the Elite can be next before the V50 - but that's debatable

Underground yeah, well, where were you guys when I was on Amazon at 2am about to click the button? 🤣 I think at the time I had action cam review fatigue and I just finally had to choose something. The reviews are kind of all over the place. But I did get mine bundled with a 3-axis gimbal for $150, so I can’t really complain. I am looking at others though, the X and the SE. I can’t seem to have enough cams now and placing them everywhere and on everything.
@@TheSaltyExplorer I did the exact same thing ! I ordered the v50 elite , then noticed how terrible the audio and video was compared to the cheaper v50 pro se , which made no sense. So I returned it for the v50 pro , which I ended up returning and getting a gopro hero 8. But that's just solely bc I need real 4k with real stabilization.

I've done some research and this is the action cam I'm going to order but I would really like to get a chest and head mount. I do not want to use the waterproof casing with these mounts, so is it possible to mount the naked camera to these mounts?

Fifteen years ago I bought a USED 3 mp digital camera for $100 that only takes pictures (5 seconds between pictures) and I figured I got a deal, Where is this world going? I also bought a drone you recommended this Christmas and I know in 5 years I won't be able to give it away, but I will have a lot of fun between now and then.
That's the most thorough video camera review I've ever seen - thanks! Only thing you could have provided is the video format (mp4 / AVI / etc?) and the approximate time a battery lasts.
Did I miss the file format? Think it is MP4. Battery is an hour, but the battery is affected by whatever setting that is used for the rear display (brightness, length of time on, etc)

Decent for $35 off ebay refurbished better then my older gopro cameras . wont worry to much if I lose it it on on a quad.
I just learned about Native vs Upscaled 4k the hard way. I bought this Akaso to match my 4k drone footage, but turns out these Akaso are just Upscaled 1080p and not real 4k. I was wondering why the video is so pixelated and worse than my iPhone, and that was why. DJI Osmo Action is gonna be the way to go to actually get real 4k at a decent price.

I am needing to live stream from a gym to FB. My first attempt was the EK7000 (which I absolutely love!), but which won't do that, as I now know. Is it possible with the V50 Pro? I though I heard you mention that in your video, but I'd like to confirm it before I order. Thanks!
When you live stream with an action camera, the live stream depends on your APP. So, download the APP shown in this video and see if it has the ability to livestream to Facebook.

I’ve had this camera for a few months now and cannot fault it, I also have a couple of GoPro’s , Xiaomi Y1, and a Mijia and to be honest I’m as impressed with the AKASO, another very similar spec budget buy is the EZVIZ S5 pro which I have and recommend. I have this camera and have bought an Akaso brand mic suitable for this model (and the V50SE) - It cost the equivalent of US$6.94 for use on my helmet ( I bought two as they were so cheap and I have two helmets). It works but I have not tried it on the bikes yet as I only got it this week.

Until you said it had no option for a external microphone, which is a deal breaker. (sigh)
I've used my older GoPro for many many many car videos, and the wind noise alone distroys the video. With a lapel mic clipped to the rear license plate, the clear exhaust notes make all the difference.
I've been corrected on that many times in the comments. It can use an external mic. Have a look through the viewer comments and you'll find links to the mic.
I tried when when they first came out and was a bit disappointed.
1. When screen goes off for power save you had to press one of the two buttons to wake it up and the click action of the buttons got recorded on the video. Watching you video it looks like the buttons no longer make a physical click. Touching the screen would not wake it up.
2. H265 codec mode did not work and it still recoded in H264. This may also have been fixed?

Have a question. I have the V50 pro, when I record then play back on the camera I have sound, but when I transfer it to my I phone or computer I have no sound. Do I need a special app or something?

I have this exact camera and love it! From someone that has the GoPro 7 & 8 that says this camera is a good product for a good price and that is has great value, I'm impressed. I have it, I love it, and will never waste my money on over priced under valued GoPro products.

The sound was good but gopro more better may be because gopro big in size so the size of the mic is big and got better frequency on recording.
Records in 4k with u3 card but when card inserted into phone it won't playback? But will do 1080p any ideas?
Sounds like a typical formatting issue. Perhaps trying a smaller size card because formatting changes with size.
Hi, I liked the video, very informative. I have only had mine for a couple of days, but I have found one glitch that could be annoying to some people and that is if the camera is in the hard case and if you bring up the setup screen, you will find that you can NOT exit the setup screen without turning the camera off and then back on, in-order to exit the setup screen. I also don't like that they made the remote into a watch, I personally would have liked it better if it had come with a wrist strap instead. There is one thing I did learn after I got this camera, and that is now I have to get a better computer because my current one can not handle 4K or 2.7K.

Nicely done, Cap. Now, if it's not too much to ask, take it to the park, in a nice sunny day, strap it to an FPV drone and fly it for a pack or two. Then replace it for a Gopro 7 and repeat the flight so we can see the difference in flight time and video quality. I love small good enough cameras that are not a Gopro. Because I'm not made of money and I crash a lot. Greetings from Brazilian summer, my friend.
I would never compare a budget camera against a GoPro Hero 7 or 8.... that is like comparing a Honda Civic against a Porshe. Both will get you to your destination, but why is a bit more refined.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 me neither, Cap. The point here is to verify how longer you can fly on a lighter camera. At the cost of some video quality, of course, but at a quantifiable amount.
Great video, well explained, I was ready to buy one now until you said, there’s no way to hook up an external microphone. I need this for a recording while riding a motorcycle. I’m using a prism tube and a hero three right now, with external microphones that I keep wrapped in foam in the air pockets of my helmet, and it works well at cutting down on wind noise. So I need a camera with external microphone, and I’m shopping for one that has Stabilization , Which neither of my cameras have

I bought that kind of Akaso camera yesterday upon seeing your review. Problem is the micro SDHC is not included and the user's manual. What shall I do?
The answer: Buy a mico SD card off of AMAZON & while you are awaiting delivery, watch lots of vids to learn how to use the camera. Or get your children to show you (kids can figure out anything).

GoPro did on 3 black, 4 and 5, but no longer on 6, 7 and 8...
That's a feature I use a lot to save time and I haven't found it in any other camera...

Really cool video. I like how you took something related to drones in a way and expanded a bit. I think I might go with a used GoPro instead. Because of the wifi I wonder if the watch is redundant.
Oh, once you have the remote, you'll have plenty of uses for it when in situations where you are off doing something adventurous that a cell phone would get in the way.
Gonna replace WASP 9905; also has watch type remote but no indication of when it’s on. Looks like this has indicator light so you know.

I have not tried this camera on a drone, but I'm sure it would work fine on a plane since it has little weight to it.
Very tempting. I like the wrist control. My Sony actioncam has wrist control with video feed. I use it for picture-in-picture and audio synced to my drone video. But I want better audio, so I am looking at the Gopro Max with extra microphones.

How is the sound so good on your camera? The sound on my is very muffled and almost non existent.
I do this professionally (i.e., CZcams reviews) so as shown in the video I use an external mic going into a digital audio recorder. I clearly showed in one part of the video what it sounded like when using the audio from the camera mic.

Thank you so much for your videos! I devoured all of them trying to choose between the akaso cams. I've been trying to figure out some things before buying: I saw that these cameras can be also used as webcams via USB, but I can't find information regarding the maximum resolution/fps it outputs to the PC. I also saw that it is possible to HDMI output to a pc using a Capture card, but haven't found any information regarding the maximum resolution/fps it outputs in that way either, or if I could get a clean hdmi signal out of it while live previewing via hdmi. Please, can you help me find out about this?
I have not tried such & I also no long have this camera (many items I review, I pass on to charity afterwards to make room for the next item to review).

The Brave 4 is junk compared to the V50 Pro line (stay away from the Elite) I've went through every Akaso cam on the market, best is the V50 X, then the V50 Pro SE, then this Pro, then the rest are no longer on my radar.
great little camera been using it for a few months now - lots of features but I forgot about the remote. Do you think it will fly ok with the Mini ? Anyone tried it, since it is much lighter than other action cameras ? UPDATE I've watch a few videos of heavier GoPros on the Mini with a mount and zip tie and it seems to work

I like the V50 pro more than my YI lite. So if you have an original YI action cam, you cant go wrong with the V50 pro. I'd go a step further to the PRO SE or V50 X
