  • This video goes into some detail about the mechanical design of the Sentinel automatic sentry gun. The first video discussed how the requirements were defined and what I was working towards.

    this is probably the best paintball turret design I've seen, great work man

    Excellent work, and not only did you provide good instructions, but your video was very educational. Great presentation and hope you keep us informed on some of your future projects. Keep enjoying your career, and encouraging others into the mechatronic engineering career.

    I love your design and your explanation was very helpful. I'm much more of a coder than a mechanical guy, but I've been working on a paintball sentry bot that can move around. Lmk if you'd be willing to collab on a new turret design!

    I had always had it in my head that Steppers would have been better for
    this sort of application, due to their high accuracy. Very interesting
    to hear you are using servos and a belt-driven gear reducer! Clever!
    I'll probably incorperate it into my designs

      @ThoughtinFlight  Před 4 lety +1

      Steppers are accurate, but very slow and don't handle dynamic situations well! They are for CNC machines where paths are predictable and the load heavy.

    I don't know how CZcams distorts the audio to such an extent, I'll try fix it on succeeding videos

    Great job, very in depth and well thought through. You could have gone for a used Smart Parts ION. Theyre cheaper than the Griphon and I have loads of them. I've designed a unique system, any chance I could get in touch, based in Durban.

      I sent the DXF files to a metal laser cutting shop, told them the aluminium i needed, then picked them up

    what about worm gears ? will they work fine? I considered because I think they'll make the mechanism more stable

    • @ThoughtinFlight
      @ThoughtinFlight  Před 2 lety

      They will allow very accurate movement but very very slow response

    24:52 can u explain how that triangular thing on the top is getting affected by the big pulley insider system?

    • @ThoughtinFlight
      @ThoughtinFlight  Před 2 lety

      The big middle gear has a smaller pinion that the belt around the triangle goes around. Same as the bottom mechanism where the section gear at the base connects.

    hey I'm doing the same work as yours but instead of servo im using Nema 17 Stepper with Geekworm Stepper HAT, my motors aren't moving smoothly they make a hell lot of noise that it feels like someone is firing a turret and keeps on moving in one direction even if i give command to rotate in oppsite it just keeps on going sometimes it just roatates one step back and then keeps moving forward direc. in microstepping mode it keeps on vibrating but don't rotate it heats up the motors too. See If u can help me, your any help could be a precious one for me :).

      I'm doing all this with RaspberryPi model 3B+, if I intend to use servos then how can I with Raspberry for such kinda application?

    • @shrinkz804
      @shrinkz804 Před 2 lety

      the first version I made was on Servos but I was just kid back then so I didn't knew the technical stuff

    • @ThoughtinFlight
      @ThoughtinFlight  Před 2 lety

      This sounds like an issue of wiring or coding since they should move, but probably not as good as servos

      I am actually taking to a few guys interested in this on how we'd go about it. The files for this particular turret will be useless basically. A new version of the turret is the way to go!
