6:50 Tip: You have 5x M4 screws on hand for removing that plate. No need to buy more. Same screws that hold your Chain Ring on. Also it's a good idea to place your hand over the Snap Ring when removing it... unless you like chasing around the room looking for it when it fly's off the Snap Ring pliers.
Bonus Tip: Use LUCAS "Red-n-Tacky" on all the gears before reassembly. It'll resist flinging off and is PFTE Nylon(or PEEK if you upgrade to it) Safe.

Thank you for this video! I was able to replicate this procedure on my BBS01 thanks to your help. (The nylon gear was fine after 25ooo km, though. The motor does make noise. It got better but not good just by cleaning/greasing, apparently that's all that can be done right now.)

Great stuff, just fitted my bbshd motor but will do this if the motor fails to turn the drive shaft. Already greased the large drive gear and pinion as standard from new, and I must say its very quiet and smooth! ..thanks for the tutorial!

It's good to see how easy these are to work on. I took mine apart a few hundred miles ago to add some grease around the main gear and was lucky enough to not need to replace the cardboard gadget which people seem to have issues with. At least I know that I have a spare if my nylon gear goes at some point. Thanks for showing us the procedure. I doubt there's much difference in between the three main mid-drive units.

Get a $30 motor tester. You can test throttle, phase wires and Hall effect sensors with out disassembly. And get an electric nut driver to save time. And snap rings have a top and bottom. It also helps to put your hand on top of snap ring pliers so when the snap ring flies off your not on your hands and knees looking for it. Also be careful not to over stretch the ring. It will not fit tight into groove.

No idea if you will pick this up but just wondering if you have ever regressed the main gear without removing from the motor from the bike. I have wired my BBSHD in nicely and took a long time so would rather not remove the motor from the bike and so was wondering - is it possible to 'safely and effectively' try degreasing and degreasing her still on the bike? I have the in/out play and so looking to replace the thrust bearing so i'll be in there anyways.

i've always wondered why people buy the bafangs, because that nylon gear is a problem waiting to happen, quite silly to use a plastic gear, and the controllers have a high rate of failure too, that's why i prefer the rear hub motor, i've had my 48v 1000w bike since 2014, it has almost 5000 miles on the clock.

    • @dogbreath6974

@kumunoy He should not be using that type of grease, after some research I found out that you should use synthetic grease on plastic/nylon gears, not oil based as he is using, also it needs to be silicon free because of the aluminium casing. @onanov Před 2 lety

I have two bikes with BBS02 motors and 52 tooth chainwheels. Keeping the nylon gear intact means either supplying a considerable amount of the energy applied to starts from high gear with human power or shifting down before you get to an intersection I opened my motor thinking that the nylon gear would be destroyed only to find out that my noise is coming from somewhere else. What I did find is that the cover the mine only has two screws to lift it off did not bring out the bearing which I had to cut off with the Dremel tool. That was a major pain in the ass and it required destroying the nylon gear to get the bearing out so I had to buy one anyway in addition to a new cover plate
