Dark Forgotten Packed WWII Soldiers House Left Hidden Away in the Woods Of West Virginia

  • This historical old house was built around 1910. It remained in the same family for the last 100 years and now it is collapsing and the roof is caving in. The last owner was veteran of world war 2 and was an artillery gunner in the pacific front. This was one of the strangest places I’ve ever explored with the tables boarded too windows and other strange things. Really made me wonder what happened at this place. Thanks for watching! Glad I could document this old ruin before it’s rusted away. Thanks!

I get a strong feeling that before the ceiling tiles fell down somebody (s) went through that house, and pilfered through every dresser/desk/suitcase/box/cabinet. Obviously they were looking for anything they deemed "valuable" and most likely found what they were looking for. The Honorable Discharge certificate belongs in proper hands, it could possibly lead to a relative that might want it. An Honorable Discharges from ww2 was a cherished piece of paper to the men who bravely served in foreign countries. They actually lived through hell, to return home either physically/mentally maimed for life. I don't believe he lived his life as a hoarder or a slob, I think the natural decay and the looters gave it that appearance. Such a lonely old house...

I agree, someone was looking for valuables or documents, or both. Some of the mess can be accounted for, but the poster speaks volumes as to someones acceptance of 'mess'. War kills something inside, and perhaps he was looking for some form of control after a loss. Those books downstairs would be ones a woman would read. Perhaps he lost his wife, filled the emptyness with stuff.

As a veteran whose grandpa also served in the army in ww2 I feel bad that his honorable service was just forgotten like that. It also may be the creepy sad feeling you get there as he may have been left there to die alone. Too bad you can't take that discharge paper to the local historic society or museum. At least his spirit would get some type of rest thru recognition. Thanks for another great explore!

How odd I don't remember you saying you were bothered by a house very often. Must have been a very distinct feeling in this place. It looks like it was an okay place at one time. Probably the Mrs. had a love for wallpaper borders. I saw 2 things that looked odd, the beam wedged between the front door and the stairs and whatever that was nailed to the bathroom wall. Perhaps the last owner had some untreated PTSD from his time in the service that worsened with age? That might account for the uncomfortable vibe you felt here. Take care and be careful out there, Kappy. Thanks

I noticed a door was nailed over a window and in the bathroom that was a coffee table nailed over a window... Must have used whatever was available to board up the windows, and that door ( with the beam against it ) I'm guessing after the owner was gone.

Why the creeps? I find it to be incredibly sad that a home that was loved by and sheltered an honorable man has been trashed. Someone obviously tried, unsuccessfully, to keep out the vandals. That means someone still cared about the place. This just makes me angry. Shame on the people who were intent on the destruction of this place.

Hello, Kappy! What an awful mess this house is in! Strange that someone went to the trouble to move heavy furniture to block the windows, even nailing tables over the windows in places (Did anybody else notice the door nailed over a window in the kitchen?) I think that someone was trying to keep people out, as the upstairs windows weren't blocked. If the owner of the house had been dealing with paranoid delusions, all the windows would have been covered. Rather, some heir did all he could to secure the house, even placing that beam from the stairs to the front door, effectively blocking it.
It's sad that all that hard work was for naught. Someone simply kicked out a panel in the door leading outside in the dining room and entered the house. Whether before or after the heir was able to look for valuables, on they know. Perhaps there were medals stored with his Discharge papers. They can be quite valuable.
Finding nothing worth stealing, the vandals set about tearing down everything in sight, turning over furniture and making a mess rivaled only by the mess in their souls.
It's always sad when somebody throws the beloved possessions of a departed person around like they're nothing but junk. Maybe they do it out of rage or just disappointment at finding nothing of value to steal. It's not so tragic when there is only trash left, but heartbreaking when a neat, well kept home is desecrated after its last owner leaves it defenseless. Here, there seems to be wanton destruction just for the sake of it, but it's odd that the glassware on the shelf isn't touched. Hmmm. Maybe they didn't notice that.
Overall, this place seems so lost, violated and sad that it makes me want to cry and it makes me angry, too. This old soldier's things should be honored, not broken and thrown about.
This was a happy home, once upon a lifetime. Countless pairs of feet have worn the treads on the stairs smooth and slightly cupped on the edges.
The veteran's wife was proud of her house, adorning it with bright wallpaper and pretty pieces of antique furniture. She liked to read romance novels, as there are a number of them in the bookcase in the living room. I think she must have been a pretty lady, as she decorated her bedroom to be pretty, too.
His bedroom, just across the hall, was handsomely appointed, too, with its antiques. The desk in the corner is masculine and sturdy.
She went before him and he missed her a great deal, I think. Her frilly pillow is lying at the head of the bed in his bedroom. Perhaps it made her feel closer to him, somehow, to lay his head on her pillow to sleep. It's so poignant and sweet to see her white pillow resting there. They are together now and missing each other no more.
It's clear that our veteran was not physically incapacitated, as there's no bed on the first floor, no walker or cane and no portable potty. He was strong enough to climb the stairs and sleep upstairs.
This house was very happy once, filled with music and joy. For it to find itself in such a state now must be shocking. I think that's what I'm feeling in this house, Kappy, an overwhelming sense of sadness and just plain outrage that anyone, be it stranger or relative, should disrupt the peace and joy of a beloved house, a home where love lived, which held the last memories and possessions of a man who laid his life on the line so his fellow Americans could remain free.
Perhaps the heir found the medals, but they meant only a monetary reward to him and he cared nothing for the Certificate that gave honor to the old soldier. Maybe he didn't care about a piece of paper. That would be the saddest part of this story and it has brought tears to this proud Army bride's eyes.
I agree with the consensus that that reminder of his bravery and his honorable service to his country should be honored somehow. Maybe it could be donated to some veteran's group for safekeeping. That would surely be the time that I would remove something from a house, or maybe I would notify the nearest veteran's group that it is there and let them be the ones to commit petty larceny! Like my Mama used to say, "Somebody ought to do something, even if it's all wrong!"
This is an interesting, albeit achingly sad explore, Kappy. The house, if it were empty, would no doubt be very beautiful. As it is, it's simply another example of someone leaving no one behind them who cares about their belongings, so vandals come in to do their worst.
We've seen it before and we'll no doubt see it again, but I hope it'll be a long time before we see another house that's been so thoroughly ravished as this one.
It seems horrible, somehow, that the house was once so happy and now it's so sad.
For some reason, I feel the need to hear somebody play "TAPS."
Many blessings to you and Ruby. Please be careful where you step, dear explorer! You never know what the floor looks like under the carpet!
    Love to you both, Becca

It doesn't feel uncomfortable, just sad and neglected and very lonely. I do agree it appears that people have searched the place and they had little concern for how they left things. When my daddy passed family members created a similar mess just going through stuff and dumping drawers, clearing shelves, looking behind and under drawers, a fast dirty search for money or valuables which is what this looks like. Maybe that's why the place feels sad because it was so invaded. Hope someone can get the discharge papers to someone who cares. The guy deserves to be remembered and respected

My wife was a little more fortunate because her siblings did not want anything in the house so as soon as my mother-in-law was picked up by the mortuary they left thinking that a trust was left for them. But their only sister was the executor of the estate and they did not get a dime. Because for years the only time they came to visit was to get money. So we got the last laugh.

For the home of a WWII vet, it seemed to be kept fairly up to date, at least the 90s style wallpaper and downstairs furniture. A vegetable motif for a bedroom seems strange, but then again, it is West Virginia. The old radio and the massive newel post were cool. I am sorry that his family did not think to remove his personal papers. One day someone will wish they had his discharge papers. Thanks for cutting through the bush to present another interesting, if not slightly creepy, explore.

Kappy, I saw a clip of yours on a channel that shows unexplained stuff. It was when you were exploring a house where a murderer had lived and the clip had a pink chair with an American flag on it and something else in the room. What happened to that episode?? Did you pull it off your feed??

I'm with you there 100%. This place has a definite creep factor going on and I am thinking that after dark sets in there are many weird things going on not excluding possibly the return of spirits from the past. I don't blame you one single bit for getting the heck out of there, I surely would have. However it does have a homely feeling that sends chills right to the bone. Or at least it surely got my attention. Thanks for sharing this super awesome video Kappy. I'm sure you are the best on CZcams. Have fun and stay safe friend.

I think just being in a house with the floors about to go with all that stuff would make someone feel uneasy, especially, if you are a tidy person. It looks like someone did an epic fail on trying to decorate and modernize that house. I think it would have been better just to leave it as it was. During the seventies, everyone seemed to want to put up that gawdy wood paneling. That wood paneling is the cheapest you could buy. They're actually was some really nice paneling but it was very expensive to use in a home. I never liked being in houses that I can't get out of quickly.

Hi Kappy. That was just odd. I can honestly say that I’ve seen all different wallpaper color schemes, but I’ve never ever have seen flowers & vegetables. Of course that wasn’t the strangest thing like that footstool ( or whatever it was) over that window & that huge beam keeping the front door from being opened. Since the grass was kept up, it looks like the owner is trying to keep people out. Hopefully he had a good life, especially after serving in WW11(all my family members served & never spoke about what they went through-although a few of them definitely had some type of ptsd. Plus they never got treated for anything like that back then) That was sad. Thanks Kappy

It's possible the veteran put those doors on the windows and braced the back door because he had PTSD, my great Uncle was a Merrill's Marauder, a United States Army long range penetration special operations jungle warfare unit, which fought in the Southeast Asian theater of World War II when he came home he would get up in the middle of the night in just a pair of blue jeans and with a bowie knife pace up and the edge of the corn field by his house because he swore he could hear the enemy coming through it.

I often wonder when watching these videos of abandoned homes if the old timer/s hid money or valuables in secret locations in the walls, floor or the ceiling. It would be a shame if the house was demolished and those items were lost forever.
These videos are sad to me in that it just shows how short our lives are. Here this WWII veteran served in the war and survived living probably into his 80's. Then, he lived out his life in that house and has now been deceased at least 15 years. Time flys folks.
