How do you keep the pliers from leaving marks on the metal?

I’d imagine it’s because of the type of metal you’re using to wrap, really nice wire is scratch resistant (to an extent) but the price reflects that. Personally I like soft grip pliers, just some regular pliers with bits of rubber on the end.

This is a skill you need to practice a lot. You need to choose an appropriate force to bend the wire, should limit the use of pliers, should use your hands to bend so that the wire is naturally bent and leaves no marks. sometimes unavoidable to leave a mark, you should leave the mark where it is least visible
