- A rare piece of FM radio history, with famed Boston DJ Maxanne Sartori interviewing three members of Queen - Freddie, Roger and Brian - on a snowy night/early morning in New York City, January 1976. This is just a few days before the start of their US tour, promoting the recently released A Night At The Opera.
I've edited out the songs played on the original broadcast. Those were:
Liar
Father To Son
Now I'm Here
Bohemian Rhapsody
I'm In Love With My Car
'39
This recording comes directly from the WBCN archives.
Enjoy! - Hudba
They never turned up for an interview drunk or high or started swearing or anything like that, the way lesser bands and artists often do. They were always elequent, polite and well spoken. Just how it should be done.
Freddie’s parting words, ‘Goodbye and God bless you Keep yourself alive’. Perfect.
Loved Maxanne and WBCN. There was no other station. WBCN ruled!
Freddie’s laugh brings pure joy to my heart!! 💛👨🏻♾👑
6:53 "We hAtE comprOMIsEs!"
My god, Freddie has most appealing and infectious laugh!
Amazing band !!!! Queen 4 Ever!!! Beautiful people, excellent voices, all talented!!!! Love them Always 💞🇬🇷
Excellent upload! And nice to hear Freddie namecheck Laurel & Hardy!!
I love Freddie's young voice
Queen is the best
Good bye & God bless keep yourself alive! 😄 Oh how I love Freddie!! ❤❤❤
I use to listen to Maxanne every single day she was on. She was a huge queen fan
Quite nice interview! Thank you! Quite sad that John does'nt say anything, but you know he was shy. :)
You're welcome! Actually, John wasn't present for this interview, hence why you don't hear him :) (I just happened to use a time period photo that included him for the post).
I miss these guy's saw them live in the late 70's and early 80's 5 times it was a great moment in time you just had to have been there to experience that kind of magic ❤🖤
You're very lucky to have got to see them live! I've only seen Brian in the 90's and the later versions of Queen +.
I saw them in 75.
Front row & got to meet the band ahead of the show.
@@natashab3412 wow!! So lucky!! Do you still have any memorabilia from that?
Great interview. Very respectful DJ. Nice to hear well thought out & intelligent questions. 😏
thank you !!! we can hear that it was very early in the morning by their voices 😂
You're welcome!
How lucky for Brian and Roger Freddie wanted to join and then they became Queen thanks to Freddie!!
John only present in spirit no surprises there as he was the quiet one that rarely spoke.
You should look through all the interviews. John spoke a lot as the band got going.
Thanks for posting! 6 days later they would open the American tour in my hometown of Waterbury, CT. It was the first time Bohemian Rhapsody was played live in America. Unfortunately, I was a little too young to be there.
Thank you so much!! Love listening to their interviews❤️💛
Yw. Glad you enjoyed!
Thanks, very interesting and candid interview. You can tell they were way more open with the medias around that time, especially Freddie, but that was before the critics started lashing at them.
Further evidence that WBCN WAS and remains the greatest most influential rock station.
When I was a teen, I applied at WBCN and WCOZ. I wanted to work for BCN cause of Aerosmith. That was their station! (See Maxanne!) COZ hired me and was the best thing that could have happened! (Timing!)
Queen's best year
ahh BCN If only I was around back then.."the good olé days"
Wbcn really supported queen from the beginning
Love these early days and interviews ❤️
Good bye! God Bless! Bless them!!❤️💛
Really great interview here! Thank you for posting this!!!!! What history!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. A Queen fan and classic comics? Pretty cool. ;)
Stellar Stuff!
❤❤❤
How is this recorded so early, 3 AM holy moly 😶 I love listening to their voices, they all have such soft voices and especially Roger's is just melting me really, he is my favourite definetely 🥴❤️
11:05 The dollar signs went up in his eyes
thank you!!
yay I loved it!
THANK U SO MUCH FOR THISSSISISSISUSSSS
yw :)
Sweet
10:45 "youmEAN you understand the british ones?!" *laughs
18:04 Oh I was just going to say the same word!
She also did another interview with them about a week later as I recall. Other shows that might feature in the WBCN archives are some from 1973 where Maxanne aired Jac Holtzman's 15ips Sarm reel of Keep Yourself alive i.ibb.co/DQcwG7z/1973-KYA-1-Demo.jpg
Yep, I've got that one as well. John is there, that time! From Jan 29 1976, not long before their soundcheck for that evening's show. Didn't know about her playing the Sarm reel! Cool. Is there anything different to that version? I'm figuring that one has been released in some form?
@@kamenliter As far as I know the reel transfer of the demo is not in common circulation, only a transfer of an acetate.
@@kurgan46 But the track is the same? Just a different source?
@@kamenliter Yes, although the Acetate would be vastly inferior quality when compared to a 15ips reel of course czcams.com/video/8umues3k7FE/video.html
Interesting, Here, Freddie says he never was in "Smile". Says he suggested, he join Brian and Roger as their singer and form a new Band, Queen.
Yes, this is true, he was never in Smile, at least not performing under that name. It's a matter of semantics, I suppose, if you could call the unit of Freddie, Roger and Brian working/rehearsing songs together before they had settled on the name Queen as a version of Smile. Especially as there is a 'Queen' version of the Smile song Polar Bear. When they recorded that demo, I'm not sure, but I believe it was after they had already decided on Queen as the name of the new band.
@@kamenliter Thank you . . .
@@marvalstith2749 Yw.
Freddie and Brian have said that many times.
Thanks
Roger and Freddie used to share a flat and attend the Saturday market with their own goods. I sometimes wonder if they thought about having a fling together 👍
18:40 ROG BEING ARROGANT
Deacy was there??
John wasn’t present during this interview.
John
Freddie says "oh the nasty Queenies, I like that."
HAHAHA I LOVE IT
Wasn't sick
❤️❤️❤️
