- Greetings motherfactors!
Today's video is taking us back in time to Ancient Greece to study the Gods and Goddesses that ruled the Greek World. So look out for Zeus, Hercules, and just SO many different gods, it's so complicated but hopefully we've made it make some sense. This is 101 Facts About Greek Mythology.

Umm my boy Hephaestus was more than the god of fire, he was also god of blacksmiths, metalworking, carpenters, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metallurgy, and volcanoes. He designed Hermes' helmet and sandals, Aphrodite's girdle, and Achilles armour, among other things. Also despite being born lame he was able to marry Aphrodite.
He was amazing. One of my favorites.
The Greek word for "volcano" is hephaistion-and Alexander the Great's boyfriend was called Hephaistion. In Latin this god was called Vulcan where we get "volcano" from.
isn’t he the ugliest god 💀
@@frogfruit2441 that's what Hera thought. But he's super smart and creative. Aphrodite didn't deserve him.
Yea umm he also nearly killed me so there’s that aswell
When you listed Chronos' and Rhea's six children, you only mentioned 5, you forgot Demeter.
@Pro Semite Demeter was the second oldest difficult to miss…
NERRRRRRRDDD
@Pro Semite It’s difficult to site because it’s the story I heard from my mother. In her version of the tale, or the one my family tells (there are a lot of versions), Hestia was the first eaten and then Demeter when Chronos/Kronos barfed them up Demeter and Hestia where the last to come out so they could be the oldest or the youngest depending on which order you go on…
@@dodgersdoon1130its called randomly watching something and remembering useless stuff in the back of your mind instead of your 25 paragraph essay
The Greek Myths were the ancient world's soap operas. No one can ever keep straight who is doing who, with what and why. Just watch (listen) and enjoy!
I'm a big fan of Greek mythology and I'm glad you did a video of it
This is awesome
Another popular myth about Medusa is that Posiden had tried to get revenge on Athena and raped the beautiful mortal woman in Athena's temple and Athena, who was angry at posiden, decided to turn medusa into the gorgon, not as revenge, but to protect her so it doesn't happen again.
Someone read Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods…
When that TV Show comes out, we’ll need 101 facts about PJO.
Wait there's a TV show coming?

I'm obsessed with Greek mythology these days. Saving to favs immediately
New drinking game idea…. Down a shot every time Chris says “Hera-culs” and you and screaming in your mind “HERA-CLEEEEES” 😂
I did really enjoy the video though 😂
It's Killing me slowly LOL
In Hellenic the name is Ηρακλής / iraklís
Every word that starts with a vowel in Hellenic has a ‘’h’’ in English…
Iraklìs means:
Ηρακλής / Iraklìs
Ήρα + κλης / Ira + klis
Ήρα + κλέος / Ira + klèos
Ira it’s the name Hera (íra in Hellenic)
And kleos means glory.
Ironically enough, Hercules means glory to Hera…
@@Kolious_Thrace Thank you! That’s actually really interesting 😁.
Oh good, I’m not the only bothered by that
ya I died lol 🤣
Do egyptian mythology or celtic mythology next
Yesss and Norse! Want all of them
You've got a good voice for voiceovers like this. Very well done job filling in for Sam!
It's Heracles/hair-ah-klees ..... Only person I heard pronounce Heracles wrong. At least you didn't mistake Heracles with Hercules.
Teaching kids to confuse Hercules and Heracles is Disneys job... I spent over 5 years spreading those lies lol.
@@Zackaria_sMax you are evil lol
@@Thunor93 it wasn't on purpose, I just got tricked by Disney also... I also thought Hades was pure evil. But it was hard not to think that when he sounded like James Woods...plus the flaming hair and attempted murder didn't help. Lol
OMG thank you for the pronunciation help! I almost stopped watching because I couldn't get past the butchery. 🤣 But, in all fairness, I can't pronounce half of the other names correctly, so I can't really say much!
@@loolykinns3172 it's fine, alot of channels on CZcams either use based information from wiki Wich tends to be wrong or told in a different tone, or they butcher the name and tell the stories in their own way.
So it's fine, I don't mind as I tend to leave comments on pronunciation on videos like this. I am Irish/Sicilian (Greek/Italian, the island where hades met Persephone and where Zeus buries Typhon under) but was raised in Norway.
16:15 “his brother Hades” and puberty struck.
I'm happy to hear you doing a video, Chris, and on one of my favorite subjects.
Yes, the names are difficult, and the incest is pretty non stop...but it's not like there was anyone else.
You did great! You got Persephone right but Heracles (HERA-CLEES) was off. I would suggest in the future to develop your own style. Several times, it sounded like you were trying to 'be' Sam.
Took the words right out of my mouth (or fingertips)
The way you said Herakles almost sent me into a madness as well. It isn't that hard. And if it is just use the Roman name Hercules
Also with Menelaus
I just kept saying it correctly out loud every time he said it!
Me too, I nearly lost my shit…
I know like 92% of this, but never flat out as a story.
U literally told the tale of Greek mythology as whole, rather than sharp alternate of listing facts. Bravo.
I'm kinda glad Sam hasn't done this one because recently he's started shouting like Barry Scott from the Cillit Bang adverts
I'm motherfactorly early! Keep up this amazing work and I hope you can do a 101 Facts about the Zodiac or the origins of the Zodiac please please please!😂😂😂
Please do Egyptian mythology next bro
Robin may have the ravenously romantic ruse of conspiracy...... And Sam is spectacularly spellbinding with scores of facts.... But Chris is congenially charismatic when it comes to standing in for the other two.
💙💜💚
Fun fact: Triton had a sister named Ursula both being children of Poseidon and Amphitrite, yeah that would mean Ursula from the little mermaid was Ariel's Aunt.
I don't mythological Triton had a sister named Ursula. At least I never heard of that, I mean Ursula means bear and I think that's Latin whereas Triton is Greek. I've heard Ursula being Triton's sister is from the original concept of The Little Mermaid not a myth.
@@kelleygreengrass nope she is in the myth, well she really isn't ever mentioned besides the names of children Poseidon had and with who.
Ursula is Latin I guess but people forget that half of what is Now Italy was once Greek and the other half were many different smaller kingdoms such as the truscans aka the tuscans of Tuscany, then you had the very small kingdom of Latin (yes the people were called the Latina) who would go on to conquer the northern half of Italy and call themselves the Romans this making the Language of half of Italy Latin, they would then go to war with the Greek half of Italy that would last over a hundred years with the last Greek territory being Sicilia aka Sicily Wich is the same island Hades kidnapped his wife Persephone and is the same island that was created when Zeus buried Typhon under a mountain in mythology.
So yeah Ursula is a daughter of Poseidon, infact Sicily is the only place in Italy that still use the Greek names of the Olympians.
Though they also use the Roman names as well, depends on Wich side of Sicily you are located.
Not the first time Romans adopted something Greek.
Finally, this video has been released, I’ve been waiting Norse Mythology 101 facts was put on the internet, thank you!
They already did norde
@@litateldiaz10 I was supposed to put was but i only just realised my mistake now.
Hades and Persephone also had another daughter: Makaria, the goddess of blessed death and she's also said to be the wife of Thanatos
You said the "Goddess of Blessed death?" Ummm 🤔 hmmmmm can you tell me what the goddess of death does or is? I'm just learning about all the gods and goddesses and i'm actually really enjoying it actually. Anyways, i still have lots more to learn about them and what they were really here for and why you know. So when i read your comment it really surprised me to hear that there was another Goddess. And with an unusual but very awesome name. I just don't know what she or he does or what he or she represent. Thanks Deanna by the way and nice to meet you! ❤ 😊
Hey you did great narration!!! Great video all around
“Sam got taken by monkeys”
Me: 🤔 seems legit
Thanks Chris! Awesome Job🤘💙
My daughters name is Persephone. She's about to be 4, I've always had a deep love of Greek mythology. If I were to have another kid I was thinking for a boy, Prometheus, and a girl would be Nemesis

I’m not say you pronounced all the names the way I wanted them but with that being said I still think you did a very good job!!!
I enjoyed watching it!
Awesome video thanks 😊
Wow! I love this channel. Humorous and educational 🤣👩🎓
Well done Chris!
(Side note: the twitter link in the video description is wrong, may want to fix that!)
Where can I find the song yo're playing through out the video? So nice. cool video btw, you talked me out of reading the source material.
Hades weapon is called a Bident also used by Gladiators in ancient Rome great Video
Great video
You did a great job filling in for Sam
Cheers
The voice cracks are my favourite part of this video
Medusa was mortal and was a priestess of Athena until Poseidon decided that it’ll be a good idea to get revenge on Athena by raping Medusa who swore to remain chaste. Theeennn Athena punished Medusa (because Poseidon is a god) and gave her snakes for hair and a stare that turns people to stone 😁 at least that’s what I learned 😅
Ok ok he now got to that story 🤣
This is the Roman poet Ovid telling of the myth of Medusa. In Greek Mythology she is the only mortal of the three Gorgons sisters, but was a monster none the less.
Exactly what you said......
thank you i was literally gonna say this but yeah athena kinda blessed medusa so that she was protected from men which is why medusa has been used as a symbol for women to know they were safe from men hurting them
idk if this is true, but i heard a version where Athena believed her and felt bad for her and gave her the head of snakes and ability to turn anyone she wanted to stone to protect her from any other men who might want to take advantage of her again
😄😁😆😅🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 Weird: I just thought the same thing. Are you a lover of Mythology too?😄
Great video!
Overall I like the video but I feel like it's only part 1 of 2 or 3, it doesn't seem to get into the creation of man after the gods and the turmoil with those new humans trying to separate themselves from the gods
Whats up people, im here because of my affinity for Greek Mythology. Just cruising thru!🤘🏾👊🏿
The voice crack on hades at 16:15
I think you did a good job with the names
I thought that this would be one of the first things this channel would have covered, but, I guess we have it now :)
This is really cool!!

It’s when stuff becomes this batshit insane that I find it harder and harder to believe it’s all made up
the voice crack at16:15 😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oddyseus and Penelope are my OTP☺️
I'm more familiar with the story of a beautiful mortal girl, being raped by Posidon at a temple of Athena, Athena being angry at the girl, and turning her into a Gorgon, the famous Medusa we are familiar with today. Jeez, there is nothing 'godly' or just, about ANY of these gods. Petty, selfish, impatient, cruel. They are more like devils, or even just plain human, than gods🤢
We need more videos with Chris
Okay.... Persephone wasn't tricked by Hades , she willingly ate half of the pomegranate (in some tellings it's the seeds she eats) thus having to stay half the year, she actually fell in love with Hades an Hades adored his wife, people assume he cheated on his wife first, but Persephone cheated first (Adonis, Zeus and another), other then that one time , hades was actually the most chill of the gods. Out of his siblings Hades and Hestia were the best. People only feared Hades cause they feared death Wich is normal, sadly modern media paints him as the devil cause he rules over the underworld.
No. She was tricked. But there are like a hundred different versions
Yes, and pretty much all surviving versions agree that she was either forced or tricked
DO NORSE MYTHOLOGY 👌🏼
They did and my favourite part was when they talked about Norse Mythology czcams.com/video/3Jpg-l1IQao/video.html
It's really intelligent👌👏
Much of Greek mythology can be boiled down to this;
Zeus: I'm gonna have sex with it.
Everyone else: Zeus no.
Zeus: YES!
And then everyone gets angry and petty.
the beginning of this video is the definition of a family ladder
Say ‘Hera-cools’ one more time lol
But great content 👍
After watching this...I'll be curious to see how the WebToon Lore Olympus is gonna proceed lol
Everything i know about Greek Mythology is from Immortals Fenyx Rising... and Disney's Hercules.
As complicated and difficult to pronounce as this topic is..you did a REALLY GREAT job...
Please do the Halloween franchise next week.

Zeus was the father of Hercules
He mentioned that around the 20 minute mark.

There is an awesome game called Hades, it's probably not accurate, but you play as Zagreus who is the son of Hades and Persephone. It's a super fun game that's basically a dramatic soap opera of Greek mythos. Super duper fun but probably not super accurate but still amazing 😊
