The Vikings may have been only 5’6’’ but other people in the world were even shorter than that at the time
True! I am 5'8" i consider myself big viking ! Even tho the rest of the man in my country are 6'2" + 😂😅
Vikings were very tall for their age
I think they were huge, especially the Swedish and Danish Vikings
Scandinavians are still the tallest in the world besides this one tribe that lives in Africa
Some Vikings were even shorter than 5'6", some were under five feet and most historians didn't know this is where the term munchkin came from. Germany was invaded once by the 'little people with big swords', they called them munchkins.
Fact 102: Viking metal is a thing.
Kryo, the Ruler of the Cold Circle of Hell, a Demon \m/
Bathory

Amon amarth
Gaurav Shrestha Wait BATHORY is Viking metal??
Kryo, the Ruler of the Cold Circle of Hell, a Demon yes there early stuff is regarded as viking metal and they influenced a lot in viking scence
Gaurav Shrestha I always thought they were black metal.
Kryo, the Ruler of the Cold Circle of Hell, a Demon what is ur fav genre of metal?

Dagmål literally means "day meal" and Nattmål means "Night meal".
Well night in norwegain is natt And What u guys call meal we call måltid. So yea
And one more ting day in norwegain mean dag And the other part of the Word is the same
Fact 102: A Norse runestone unearthed in Scotland warned that the locals were insane and violent. That's right. The Scottish scared the Vikings. However, some clans do claim to have Viking descent.
I posted a previous comment you may find interesting;
"I'm Scottish and most of us Scots have either Viking roots, Celtic roots or even both! There's a wee bit on the island of Islay, Scotland, where Vikings settled and lived beside the Scots. Trained with them and even taught them how to build long boats. They also had a little tiny island where the 'leaders' of the town would go and discuss political and lawful matters. The long boat building backfired though... when the English declared war against the Norsemen, they demanded that these Scots help build ships to counter the Vikings, so we Scots built similar but more manueverable boats that essentially helped slowly win back England and prevent further raids from the seas..."
Shame really, we could have been BFF's! Imagine Vikings helping William Wallace and/or Robert the Bruce fight against England!? Yeah... those Anglo's knew exactly what they were doing haha
@@thevoicewithin9845 the Vikings and William Wallaca together sounds dope. Picturing the Ragnar and William Wallace inspiring speeches before battle 😆
Well us Scots can be scary peeps…Black Agnes, anyone?
Long live “Ivar the boneless” and “King Ragnar”.

Fact 103: Norsemen were only called viking when raiding.
They mentioned vikings before that in the sagas and meens in swedish those who hide/live in the bay
I grew up right next to (400m or so) the Rimol farm, where the thrall Tormod Kark killed his master Hákon jarl after King Olav Tryggvason issued a wanted dead warrant on the earl. The chieftain Einar Tambarskjelve (lit.: 'Shaking belly' 😂) also had a farm just down the road from where we lived. I used to walk past the site on my way to school. :) Einar Tambarskjelve was a master archer, and slagged off the king when he broke his bow 'cause it was too weak. A kneeling Tambarskjelve, as he's just fired an arrow, is on the coat of arms of the municipality of Melhus. :)
AHHH MY FAMILY!! ♥ i love my heritage so much!

Very interesting and informative, and also so entertaining. Great way to learn history!
you didnt mention a few things so i will: The Norwegian Vikings mostly raided the British isles, The Danish raided the French and eastern Europe while the Swedish traveled through Russian rivers to the Byzantine Empire aswell as Italy (wich the Danes also raided). The name for Vikings in what is now Russia was actually "Rus" wich is where they got their name, so yes Swedish Vikings gave Russia their Name.
The First Viking raid (that we have evidence of) actually occured in Finland by Swedish Vikings, this was a few years before Lindisfarne.
The myth of Vikings putting their dead on ships and then pushed them into the water and set fire to the boats is well, a myth. Something similar happened tho, They often buried people in stone formations resembling boats and for some high ranking individuals they were buried in actual ships with their belongings such as slaves, horses or jewelry.
Thats most of what i know that isnt mentioned in this video, i was incredibly happy when i saw this in my notifications. Great job as always
well it may not have been common but iben fadlan does describe a viking funeral in which the boat is lit on fire, so we have a least one account
Thanks, Mr. Peabody
Daydreaming well you forget that the danes went to England. Why are Norwegian so mislead and think they are the only vikings in the room. Sut stop it. Btw Norway and Denmark and Sweden vikings fought together not as a nation.
@@kaffekaffekaffe5225 I never said that the Norwegians were the only ones that raided the British isles, i very well know that the Danish went to England but the majority of vikings on the British isles were Norwegian. I also know that the Scandinavian vikings fought with eachother and together against others, im not as stupid as you seem to think i am
If you look it up most runestones about vikings in brittish islands they are in Sweden only some in norway and Denmark the fewest is in denmark. Danish vikings went to germany most to the saxons since they have main land that are together
Nuns: “Ha! We cut off our noses, try raping us now!”
Vikings: “BBQ it is than.”
Fact 103: Vikings is indeed used only to discribe Norse raiders. Not the people as a whole. So the farmers are not Vikings but just Danes or Norwedians. Or Norse if you will.
There wasnt a Norway back then, the norse population was made up of different tribes like the geats, jutes. Danes was a collectice word for the norsemen that the saxons used.
Norwegians.
@Christine Lindberg-Gilhus Swedish here, wrong a viking is collective word for a voyage, or a journey, and those who went on these vikings were called vikingr for the duration of voyage
the thing is even if they weren't Vikings they believed in the Norse gods. so the word Viking has become a word for Scandinavians that believed in the Norse gods.
@@bigmelker9881 yeah its a popculture reference
Bet those Vikings were outside that church saying " Can you smell burning?" Laughing their arses off
To be fair, the word "Ting", at least later on, means "thing" as well. Might be a case of double loan words :D
Because of your fact about the comedy series norsemen i have found a series to love thanks man :)
Well, your first 'fact'" is wrong. Viking is not a people, it's an action, ie raiding.
Well if you read sagas the Word viking came up before the traditional mening you talk about and meens those who hide/live in the bay
I’m Danish and my ancestors were Vikings. Ask any Dane and they will say the same thing. Are Pilgrims not people?
2:23 :)
True.
Nope. Definitely a people.
I knew most of them with just having watched the series Vikings.
I would like to go Exploring and Pillaging, all though hunting for food sounds good too! Imagine the gratitude you'd get for feeding a whole village!
Fact 102, in the year 900, daenerys targaryan was wedded of by her brother to a great viking king, which eventually led her to hatch three dragon eggs on his funeral pire when he was later wounded in battle when in an disagreement with his men. She would later use these dragons to take back England and claim her crown as the last living targaryan
Hmm as if Game of Thrones needed alternate timeline and needed massive cleanup.
I have Viking ancestors, so that's cool!!

Hey Sam big fan of your videos I love how much effort you put into them
The vikings where actually taller then the average European with skeletons being found of vikings being around 172 cm to 178 cm
I love the Vikings

@@101Facts 101 facts about Norse mythology please? The Norsemen had one of the most interesting cultures and definitely the best religion ever. Please do that, also mention the berserker of Stamford Bridge and how he's definitely dining with Odin as I'm typing this. Yeah, the lone berserker holding back an entire army isn't a fact and neither is mythology, but still damn cool and interesting. You could make 101 facts about their religion and customs since back then it wasn't considered mythology. Like how Christmas is based on Yule and how they had orgies in the forest while high af at Uppsala(jk, idk I that's true but sounds like a fun thing to do). Having threesomes wasn't a wild thing though, especially for married couples. Now that's a fun fact.

Fact 106: There's only one country between Norway and Best Korea
Another interesting note; The English word Tuesday is derived from Old English Tiwesdæg and Middle English Tewesday, meaning "Tīw's Day", the day of Tiw or Týr, the god of single combat, and law and justice in Norse mythology. Tiw was equated with Mars in the interpretatio germanica, and the name of the day is a translation of Latin dies Martis.
Quinten Whyte, thursday and friday also comes from norse words.
@@partgamer182 He has already mentioned the word origin of Thursday and Friday.
Wednesday and Sunday and monday are also derived from old Norse aswell

101? Dude, you're seriously ahead in the listicle-game!
SO JARLS ARE REAL i played skyrim and heard the word jarl and leaned that it was a real thing and in my history class we were learning about the middle ages and we were talking about different classes of people and one of the classes was 1st class and like kings and queens were up there and the teacher was asking for more examples of 1st class people in the middle ages and i said a jarl and the teacher was like what the fuck are talking about like what i said was an imaginary thing but jarls are real and my teacher doesn't know shit about history
It is still, to some degree, used in agroculture in Denmark, where a landowner is technically a jarl (that part not that widely used) and the farm hands (or workers in the field) are called Karls.
I doubt you planned this, but immediately after you spoke about how the Vikings never wore helmets despite people believing otherwise, at around the 12:55 mark, a commercial for Raid Shadow Legends played where a gigantic north man looking brute smashes thru a wall and begins to intimate a guy all while wearing a horned helmet.... Pretty awesome timing for such a specific commercial. Well done in any event, LMFAO!
7:37. That's the swiss flag, not the danish.
How did they get that wrong? Our flag shares barely any similarities to the swiss

@101Facts Love you bro :D
If you're Norse, you're from Scandinavia of the ethnic blood (Although there are also the Sami, which are another people living in northern Sweden/Norway).
The "vikings" are simply norse people going on a viking aka. norse people going on a raid (or more for that matter).
Where did the music come from. Pretty nice.
Richard Brohammer I was wondering the same thing. I love the music.
The danish vikings were badass
Yeah they were!
De norske hadde kappet av hodene til de jævla danske jævlene

Jeanette Hansen no, the danes ruled Norway from 1500~1800
If rumors are right, i`m a decendent of the danish king Gorm the Elder. Awesome.
Well so am I and that is a true fact, and as I have done some research on it from Gorm the old his mother was a princess of England and from ther it when to a King of Franks and there to Emperor of Rom and to the most famous of them namely Julius Caesar after that I but my reaserch on hold, just a fun fact for dose of os hu are one of Gorms desendents.

Danish at least get on with life. Swedes and Norwegians often go on and on about we wuz Vikings
@@AyeGee721 haha it is something to be rather proud of though. Maybe not so much the pillaging, even though pretty much everyone did it back then. But the fact that the Vikings were such formidable warriors and actually, most were just looking for land to settle on and farm. They were extremely successful and claimed a heck of land and discovered so many 'new' lands too! Plus their beliefs were pretty incredible, albeit, a bit strange lol
I'm Scottish and most of us Scots have either Viking roots, Celtic roots or even both! There's a wee bit on the island of Islay, Scotland, where Vikings settled and lived beside the Scots. Trained with them and even taught them how to build long boats. Saturday is actualy durrived from old Norse, roughly translating to ' the day of cleaning'
What? Not Saturn's Day?
Never heard of Saturday came from the Old Norse, I know that all the other ones did. I know in Old Norse it is called Laugardagr, which mean "pool" + "day" or "bathing day," cause they will take a bath once a week or so.
no, in scandinavian languages their word for saturday means pool day, saturday is saturn day
Vikings were not only skilled hunters and warriors but caried a lucky charm with them when going into battle and plundering, yes, hidden in a pocket was a gerbil or hamster they would pet for good luck. If the warrior fell in battle the ruffled hamster would scurry away and hide from the 'hamster collector' on the battlefield denoting a Viking's luck has run out.
Which translates to "Waldo was here 😂😂😂. Funny my Uncle and I were talking about this just last week. Ancestry from King Cnuts or in America Knuths. Just had to check it out!
