My uncle always told me when going to Detroit not to get car jacked. Don't wanna end up as a lick. I used to travel down fenkell without anything but God watching over me. Some parts of Detroit are so bad my own father told me to stop joyriding down the streets because someone eventually will try you. Not all of Detroit is ghetto or bad but there's no question like anywhere else you have to watch your surroundings and go there with a reason not just joyriding throughout the city. My motto is don't go anywhere unless you have business going there. When I was younger I'd go anywhere because I was curious and naive.

A lot of Detroit police officers lived in this neighborhood up until the late nineties residency changed.

As kids we walked from north of Eight Mile (Warren) down Van Dyke to 7 mile to go to the Nortown Theater. Other times to catch the bus to go to Edgewater Park near Telegraph Rd. As a seven-year old I saw "The Long, Long Trailer" at the Nortown and they had a replica of the trailer in the movie sitting across Van Dyke on 7 Mile. Life was safe and happy back then.

We used to be able to walk to the corner Dime Store and the barber shops and everything else even all the way up to seven and Gratiot we had three police officers one on each corner of where I used to live. Moved out in 1985.

None of this area is that dangerous unless you don't have a car. Live near here now. FBI got rid of most of the thugs a while ago.

I lived on Bradford one block off 7 mile. Delivered D'S pizza. I can't believe what happen to that area. In the 50's and 60's we left windows open , no air. Never had a problem. We all know the real reason why.
