My grandma grew up on a street between 7 and 8 mile just off of Gratiot...she remembers a time when the community was thriving and people left their doors unlocked and windows open all day and night. She could walk with her friends anywhere in the neighborhood without fear. Yeah crime was a thing, like at every point in human history, but Detroit was no worse than any other community in the USA. I've been past her old 'hood since, and the house is long gone, it's just a vacant lot now. I see the homes in this video and I am sad at the loss of the human aspect; hard working, honest people who were part of a community and have long since passed or moved away. I hope those who remain can do so in peace and well-being.

It was about a mile walk to the venue and we decided to walk most every where. Lots of houses on our path to and from downtown Detroit looked exactly like these. Every now and then there was one being renovated. Everyone we talked to said that just a couple years before a "white boy" would not be welcomed in this "hood" The people we met in Detroit were some great people tho.

I love old American history and seeing these streets I think back many years to when it was thriving and how sad that particular area has become. I see the boarded up buildings & homes and wonder who lived there 20, 30, 40+ years ago. I hope Detroit makes it back but being in Cleveland, Oh. there's many parallels to what's happened in both cities with so much manufacturing lost over the past decades. Anyway, nice vid here, I hope to check out more.
