Schade, dass es nicht das komplette Konzert ist... es wurde ja vollständig aufgezeichnet. Aber DANKE, ich konnte es am 23. April 2016 live erleben... es war ein tolles Erlebnis.
Does anyone know whether there would have been a tradition of performing the Missa with an all male choir in the early half of the 19th century? There are benefits: clear, silvery sound. To suggest that only an adult choir can interpret such a profoundly spiritual work may be assuming too much in 2017.
surely as this is a Mass it would almost certainly have been sung by an all-male choir, like all church music at that time? Although perhaps Beethoven thought of this more as a concert piece. Apparently the first performance was in St. Petersburg, and I would be surprised if there were any proficient mixed choirs in Russia at that time.
