  • Packrafting is something I've wanted to add to my backpacking for a very long time. I've finally got myself a packraft and am starting the process of learning how it all works. This is my very first float in my new packraft on a short urban float on my local river.

    Cool! I mean the raft. The river is freezing! When your instructor is in a dry suit you may want to think about those shorts.............🤣🤣🤣

    I just LOVE my packraft, bringing it with me on backpacking trips and fishing trips. Flextail max boat pump is definitely to recommend, it fills up the packraft correct amount of air. And I always use neopren socks with anti slip. Early spring I use neopren glows too. Another tip is to prevent dripping from your oars if you have your packraft open is to treat the oar blade with bee wax. Hope you get many good experiences with your packraft. BR from Norway

    Let me know when you're ready to experience packrafting in the Bob! Great fun. I'll be trying out a new PR myself this year, can't wait! Happy floating. 😊

      My PFD is one I already had. It’s the NRS Vapor. I haven’t done a lot of research on PFD’s and what’s best for packing.
      I got the Aquabound Manta Ray carbon paddle with fiberglass blades. Just for durability with paddling in the desert and still be light weight.

    I’m curious, why an inflatable raft? Why not get a kayak?

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  Před 3 měsíci

      This is a pack raft, so I’m able to pack it small and carry it on/in my pack to hike with. Then inflate when getting to water and put all my gear inside the boat.

    Can't really call it packrafting if you drive right up to the launch point 😂 jk, gotta start somewhere! I've been thinking about getting the klymit lwd packraft to dip my toes in this area as well. I've got the manistee river loop trail in Michigan that would make a great packrafting trip!

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  Před 3 měsíci

      Ha! Thanks!
      That Klymit boat is pretty squirly. I paddled one in a lake and it was interesting. I’d be scared to take it down a river. Ha ha

    Ok, so did you inflate it with the Flextail? LOL

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Ha ha! Yes, I did use a Flextail pump, but not the tiny or zero pump. It’s a much larger one that actually has a psi readout on it and shuts off automatically when it reaches the set psi.
