- I headed down the local bricks a few weeks ago to catch dinner where I did alright with a couple little fatties hitting the bin. Then a few weeks later with a nice tide hitting around dark I headed back for another crack. The conditions were perfect but it was hard going through light.
Nearing dark (coming into that magic hour time) I hooked into to a nice red but after 10-15sec's of tussle the line went slack. Winding in my 30lb fluoro trace was bitten right through (what I would say right at the hook) I had been umming and ahing whether or not to use 40lb. Around rocky/kelpy areas I like to use a heavier trace knowing that the bigger boys can have gnarly teeth for chewing up mussels and kina.
I was guttered as I retraced. Now dark I managed to land a couple of nice fish for the bin, but being dark I had to put the camera away which was a bummer.

Reminds me of the days back in Auckland off Music Point, low tide when you could catch a massive snaps, doubt you would get a sprat these days.
Yep hard to get the good fish these days the local Auckland spots use to hold.
@@Reel-Kiwi-Fishingthere's definitely some good snaps still around. 70cm+ early mornings and evenings are key.
If you don't have anything holding you back from fishing weekdays then that helps massively !!!
Where about?
Up Hibiscus coast.
