- The Spanish Navy guided missile frigate ESPS Santa Maria plays music over a loudspeaker for all of Portsmouth Harbour to hear while returning to sea for Exercise Steadfast Defender. The warship also sounded it's horn several times on departure.
The music is Marcha Ganando Barlovento by Banda de la Marina. It translates to 'Gaining Windward March' and is performed by the Spanish Navy band.
The ESPS Santa Maria (F81) is first in it's class of guided missile frigates with the Spanish Navy (Armada) that went into commission in 1986. The class is based on the Oliver Hazard Perry-class built by the United States.
The ESPS Santa Maria made a port-call to His Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Portsmouth, UK, with 3 other Spanish ships during Exercise Steadfast Defender, the largest NATO exercise to be held since the Cold War. Over 90,000 troops are participating with over 1,200 combat vehicles, 80 aircraft and 50 naval assets from all 31 allies and NATO partner, Sweden.

It's the Marcha Ganando Barlovento (gaining windward march in English), after it's anthem it's the most important song of the Armada (Spanish Navy).
Greetings from Spain!
Ah! Gracias!
I have updated the description with that. Thank you.
😂😂😮 lord nelson be waking up in his rum drum 😅😅 👍 gotta love that captain much respect better later than never 😅
Frigate F-81 Santa María. The songs are military Spanish navy marchs
Star wars imperial March would have been pretty cool.
Right? I'd actually pay to see/hear this on a warship.
Hope the officers and crew had a good look around HMS Victory in Portsmouth dockyard
Now, now.🤣
So what's new. We played Colonel Bogey every time we sailed under the Forth Bridge on our way to our Iceland patrol. This was in 1959_ 1960 whilst serving on
H.M.S. PALLISER
Superb video wish I could have been there at 88 years not easy
Thank you for watching. And I understand that, hopefully the video was enough of an experience!
HMS Magpie used to play Rossini's "Thieving Magpie" when in South Africa.
Reminds me of rishi sunak,a little piece of something you scrap off your shoe
Awesome video. I love the music and the horn.
💪♥️
Thank you. Blessings to all.
Nearer my God, To Thee???
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Isn’t the horn sounding just a replacement for the traditional “gun salute” that all Royal Navy warships used to give on entering and leaving harbour, especially if a flagship was present?
It ' s a tradicional rules of the Spanish Navy ( Armada) when arrives/leaves...
Sounds great!
Can anyone inform us what music was being played?
Nothing like having an embarked band, though!
Interesting that they have their RAS point on the weather deck instead of 02 deck like all other FFG7’s that I have seen. I suppose it has to do with that round RAD Dome (what ever it’s for) aft of the bridge being where normal RAS points are
Thank you for courages bravery
Respectively
God bless
You can sometimes put a woolly sock around a microphone that is susceptible to wind noise - to see (or hear) if you can cure that horrible sound!
I did wonder about celotaping one to the internal microphone. Unfortunately, both my external mics were ripped off their holders in the wind (ironically) after a short period of use. The cord being pulled out did also damage a few videos.
@@CobraEmergencythank you for making this video I really appreciated it very appreciated and 😊❤❤😊😊
Very nice
When you can't quite get the royalties to its raining men 🤣🤣
Pretty much any song that's less than 95 years old is a no-go 😂 So come back in the year 2077 and we'll try again. 🎶
The music could be: Ganando Barlovento played by the Banda Militar Canarias...😊
I just had a listen and it seems highly likely! Thank you!
You're welcome!@@CobraEmergency
