    This is a great idea~! I'll be putting together something like this (if not exactly) before my Shaper arrives on Wednesday this week. Can't wait~!! Thanks much~!

    I’ve watched this video several times. Was about to make it but just recently remade 3 MFT tops out of a full sheet of mdf. I just realized I could use the old MFT top as my adjustable layer, matching holes with bolts and fender washers and springs!

    I realize that you uploaded this 3 years ago, but I'm a new Shaper user and just made a slight variation of your idea. The spring idea is fantastic. Because of this jig, I was able to cut a ton of repeatable parts using only the tape on the jig. You probably saved me $100 US in Shaper tape already. Many thanks!

    New shaper user here. I was just wondering how to cut something on a small piece of wood. Thanks for the great video. The only drawback of Shaper Origina seems to be that he must have a large working desktop , like on a real cnc, and I have a very small space where I work

    • @Woodensoul
      @Woodensoul  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, you need a little bit of space to use the Shaper Origin. The official Shaper Workstation is pretty much the minimum size you need to be able to work with small pieces, as the camera needs to be able to see enough dominos to orient itself...

      @@Woodensoul I try to make jig for cutting guitar neck shapes, and neck shape is pretty narrow. it would be best with a movable platform so that the screws do not interfere. I'm thinking and I can't think of anything smart :)

    Where did you get the springs and what weight are they? Does the MDF sag in the center from the weight of the ShaperOrigin? Thanks

      I used these ones: sourcing map 10 Stk Edelstahlspule verlängert Druckfeder 1,2x10x40mm www.amazon.de/dp/B07N86LD4Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_EH2KEbBVRNYF7. The MDF bends a little. so I usually slip some reinforcements below if the cuts need to be precise...

    Shaper Tape adhesive is notoriously weak. Did you use anything to increase bonding? I thought I might do a test with glue them down then spraying the reference board with Clear Flat enamel but I suspect the paper will absorb it and then curl. Open for any ideas.

    • @Woodensoul
      @Woodensoul  Před 4 lety

      I didn’t for this project. What I did is to clean the surface with mineral spirit and take a new tape (the older your tape the weaker the adhesive). Alternatively you can use a transparent non-reflective tape to cover all shaper tapes. That works well and protects also from damage...

    Great information, thank you. Just bought a Shaper. What do you recommend as far as laptops for using Fusion 360 or another software for designing projects?
    Do you recommend a PC based laptop or an Apple laptop and what hardware configuration? Memory, hard drive size etc??
    Thanks for your time.

    • @Woodensoul

      Hey Ron. Most welcome. If you already have a laptop or desktop computer, I don’t recommend buying a new one. Just start using the one you have. You can try the software Inkscape, which is free. If you notice your computer being too slow, one of the cheaper Macs (laptop or Mac Mini) will do it. Creating svgs for the Shaper isn’t particularly demanding for a computer. It's funny, the manufacturer of the shape origin is watching these, and I'm going to bet, if they are not working out a timplating jig, someone is all they would have to do is put this stuff on lexan you could tape down, in fact I'll bet you could stick the tape between 2 sheets of lexan drop it on a floor set you tool up and carve a pattern for an inlay on the hardwood floor.
    Then reuse the same locating device in your next job.

    • @Woodensoul
      @Woodensoul  Před 4 lety

      Actually, I just had an e-mail exchange with Shaper last week, and they are about to release a jig for the Shaper. Will cost 400+ bucks, so I guess there will still be room for a low cost jig like this one... You can easily carve out patterns in hardwood floor with the Shaper. There are examples out there on the Internet. Pretty fun :D

    • @ffbells
      @ffbells Před 4 lety

      I was thinking the same thing. I know Shaper always says the tape needs to be co-planar with the work-piece, but would it matter if the tape was above the work-piece (floor for instance) by 1/16"?

    • @pocket5s1
