Yeah! You are a champ for posting it for everyone, especially with plan and instructions... it will save everyone the massive trial and error time to duplicate the wheel... hard to beat! Thank you sir, subscribed and liked! ...read on...
We are all trying to think how to beef up the physical workspace into a more complete comfortable apparatus... this is a great start for all of us to build upon... and I can see a few add-ons that will make this base model even more useful...
Shaper has finally put out a workstation... but, made of metal(I think), so not easy to build upon besides the whoppin' price for a minimum setup and no basic jigs.
Most of what is created with wood does not require metal precision, nor resistance to expansion/retraction, nor rigidity... though proper bracing can make wood solidly rigid.
Though a CNC will always win for high volume and time restricted work, the Shaper tool will win the small people(largest crowd), and the prototype, and one-off jobs battle.
So, those who need CNC will also have a Shaper tool, while the small people may have the Shaper tool, only.

Genius! This will be my first project when I get my machine.

really well thought out and built … great attention to detail you seem to have thought about extending the Shapers capabilities within a small space, kudos … I’m downloading the plans and will get to building this later in the spring, still have much to do to turn the garage into a workable shop, thank you!

Great job! You overcame some of the limitations!

That looks better than the official workstation.

Thanks Nico! I think the factory version is at least as good for vertical work. But, I believe this design is much better suited for horizontal work than the commercially available unit.

I want to make something like this but have the festool vac clamp system in place to clamp down the work. Great job as always!

Thanks Nate. Incorporating some kind of vacuum clamp would be awesome!

This looks great! I ordered my shaper yesterday and I look forward to building something similar! What type of plywood do your recommend for something like this?

    • @JackbenchWoodworking
      @JackbenchWoodworking Před rokem +1

I recommend using a good high quality plywood. Maybe a Baltic birch plywood.

Going to buy a shaper just so I can build this work station

LOL! I realize now that I've had the shaper for a while that I hardly ever use it. A friend of mine loves his and used it all the time, but it really doesn't help much with the type of work that I do. Also, it's a bit slower than I would like.

This looks great and you’re providing a free is a blessing. Do you have any thoughts about modifying your plans to use micro jigs dovetail slots and clamps instead of T track and clamps?
How did you apply or make the domino tape surface and protect it so it does not get worn? It looks like your domino strips are very close together.

Thanks Randy. I haven't give much thought to using micro jig clamps, but I'm sure it would be a very simple modification. Good question about the tape. I applied the tape directly to the workstation, but as you suggested, it wears out pretty quickly.

I think shape origin stole your design, if you build this before shaper origin workstation . You really need to contact them . There is lot of similarities with their workstation! I could be wrong

    • @JackbenchWoodworking

Thanks. Actually, I borrowed some of my ideas from the Shaper workstation. I added several features that the factory version doesn't have. Like the ability to hold pieces for horizontal work up to 20" wide.
