I watched this because I had to see the 'bat attack' method LOL. I know prices change over time, but a actual roller tool can be had for $37 USD with free postage. Even here in Australia it can be had for about the same. Buy one, and make your money back finding a mate who is game for paying you $10 a wheelwell to roll. Win-win!
If one is really keen to sticking to the bat attack method, I'd do it a bit differently. If you do not allow the tyre to rotate, you end up with two surfaces working against each other (which is why the bat rubs as it did).
    1. Raise the chassis/frame of the vehicle, and rest it down on a jackstand. Do *NOT* position the jackstand on any part of the wheel's suspension. You want the wheel to droop down and be able to rotate freely.
    2. Position a jack on a suitable part of the wheel's suspension, and use the jack to raise the wheel enough to fit the bat as required.
NOW, when you roll the bat, the tyre will spin as the bat rolls across the metal, and you will not rub your car's paint nor will the bat's finish rub off onto your car. In the end though, I still reckon at this point its just easier to just buy the actual tool suite for the task. I absolutely understand pinching pennies though and have done some wild fly by seat shit myself haha!

i used to do this on older race cars. i was kind of upset when i bought an eastw*&d fender roller to be a bit more controlled. the controlled fender roller (let's call the eastw$%d one that) works super well for a single layer lip. it just really works well. much easier than the baseball bat. but, if you've got a car that has two layers of sheet metal that come together at the lip and sort of form a VEE shape, the controlled fender roller requires many hours to even get a 5mm extension. (if you're just rolling the lip, it will get you a nice, smooth VEE shape in a few hours.) i wanted an extension (flaring) with this device and watched many videos (mostly on BMWs) where they successfully flared and rolled the fenders. this did not work at all on a w211 merc. the fenders were rolled into (an included angle of around 20 degrees) but would just not move outward. leaning on a lever like a baseball bat as i raised and dropped the car repeatedly did. HOWEVER, the sheet metal on the outside fender showed a peak (inverse of crease?). as you can probably observe, i am not a sheet metal guy. i was told that i could probably, without paint damage, pound that back to smooth.
anyway, i wouldn't do it again. it made a mess of the outside sheet metal with just the baseball bat method. i went over and over again with the fender roller (above the lip) and retrieved some sort of smoothness. it was better; but, if i want it to look good, i'll need a professional to fix it. this method is not recommended for my model (AMG W211 wagon) but it worked super well on my racecar (1999 VW golf) good luck to you!!! and, hey, man, thanks for the video!

PUSS4YD3STR0Y3R This is coming from someone who’s watching a video on how to roll fenders....you obviously have no idea what you’re saying lol. It’s actually better to use something other than a fender roller. (Hence the reason I’m watching this video). Fender rollers are faster and easier but they won’t ever be as clean as a proper time consuming hand Job (giggity)

Hey buddy I wanna ask you something, I have a 06 Subaru Impreza 2.5i wagon but I upgraded my caliper brakes for the wrx two & 4 pistons brakes a few years ago also I got a set of 17 wheels so I was good driving my wagon with my setup of wheels 225/45/17 but two weeks ago I had to change my tires and I decided to go with a different set 225/50/17 everything was good for two weeks and even looks better Subie but today I went for a ride with some friends and now Subie makes a lot of noise I think the wheels are hitting on the rear fenders, so do you think I could fix my problem just rolling my fenders just like you did to your car?
