- If you haven't seen this movie in a while I urge you to do so, as it is a FANTASTIC movie! I recreated the iconic synth/UFO conversation scene from Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind using only the sounds from the incredible Baloran The River synthesizer.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a 1977 American science fiction film written and directed by Steven Spielberg, and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Melinda Dillon, Teri Garr, Bob Balaban, Cary Guffey, and François Truffaut. It tells the story of Roy Neary, an everyday blue-collar worker in Indiana, whose life changes after an encounter with an unidentified flying object (UFO).
The score for the film was composed, conducted and produced by John Williams, who had previously worked on Spielberg's Jaws. Williams wrote over 300 examples of the iconic five-tone motif for Close Encounters-the five tones are used by scientists to communicate with the visiting spaceship as a mathematical language-before Spielberg chose the one incorporated into the film's signature theme.

Okay, I'm a keyboardist and I don't recall ever hearing of the Baloran River synthesizer. Kind of reminds me of a CS-80.
Excelente interpretación 👏👏
A great deal of the alien "answers" are performed by acoustic instruments, but kudos for doing this, it must have taken a lot of work.
Keith Barnhart thanks! Most of the original dialogue when talking to the big ship was done with a clarinet and a tuba in the movie, which John Williams wrote for. When I recreated it I tried to have the synths match the clarinet and tuba in their sound characters (the part starting at 1:23)
Brilliant
You have absolutely nailed this... beautiful
Fantastic sounding synth! You don't need this one anymore, you can send it to me! :D
Thanks! When I win the Powerball lottery one day it will be yours! :)
@@seanchristophersynthesizer6999 Oh thanks a lot!!! :D :D
Bravo !
Extremely beautiful and well done!!!!!
Nice work, Sean! Beauty.
Turn it on I dare you wake the universe
What are those strange artifacts on the low notes @ 2:25?
It is my attempt to make the synth sound like a Tuba played sloppily...like they did in the actual movie before the big ship learned to play the tune correctly.
😂👽💭💭💭💭💭i like it 😁
Vous avez le bonjour d' Albert Einstein dans le FUTUR.
Sans faute! :)
I thought imdb said the keyboard used was a Yamaha model.
Aliens are not fans of Yamaha. Remember what happened on Independence Day? Yamaha! That is why they went with the American ARP in Close Encounters. LOL
Sean Christopher Synthesizers did you really play this unforgettable sci-fi and pop cultural tune with one of your synthesizers ?
Yes! I took me forever though, to try and get it as close to the original. I did have to time-shift some of the faster notes in Cubase to get it just right, as I am no Liberace on the keys.
