  • In this video I show how I made a Jig for sifting Gravel and Dirt out of my yard after I had a concrete slab poured. Dirt sifting is a thing that I was not looking forward to, but this sifting jig made things so much easier.

    You should build one that fits a wheelbarrow. That way you can sift the dirt right into the wheelbarrow. Also, screwing in the corners instead of using nails would be much more useful because trust me these things flex and break all the time

      yeah... that's why I used the scraps that were left over from another project... this was really a disposable rig meant for a single use project. If I was making this as a permanent fixture I would have designed it way differently. Thanks for the input!!

    Good idea for a project my man. I’ve ruined so many lawn mower blades By not doing this! I did cut chicken wire to keep my dog from digging outside of the fence And an angle grinder works beautifully cutting that stuff. Nice video!

      Thanks Bro... yeah... at the time I filmed that I did not have an Angle grinder, I have three of them now!! Go figure!!

    We have a beach here in Virginia Beach that actually has fossil shark teeth (Westmoreland state park). This would make finding those teeth wayyyyy easier. Great video, keep it up!

    I can't tell what you have the sifter sitting on top of. Is it a wheelbarrow?

    • @BigLousWorkshop
      @BigLousWorkshop  Před 2 lety +2

      Yep!! I was using it to catch the debris so I could spread it evenly around!!

    3:55 I would have overlapped the wood. On the bottom the two long pieces are butted up to through pieces across the width. I would have done the second frame on the top with through pieces on the length and butted pieces for the width. Hopefully that makes sense.

      @@BigLousWorkshop You wouldn't need so many staples if the wood overlapped each other.

    • @BigLousWorkshop
      @BigLousWorkshop  Před 3 lety +1

      ehh... possibly, staples are cheap... but this was never meant to be an overly thought out or complex build. Just a simple rig to help get gravel out of my yard. Thanks for the suggestions!

    I urge people to sift their garden at least once and then every few years. Aside from getting rid of non organic matter it introduces oxygen back into the soil.
    The first time I sifted, I came across and old but small dump site that wasnt obvious with tilling.

    • @BigLousWorkshop
      @BigLousWorkshop  Před rokem

      you're not wrong... however this was more about getting all the rocks and concrete debris out of my yard so I did not destroy my lawnmower!! Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the info!!
