Welcome to a post completion review of one of my recently finished diamond painting kits, "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa" from Diamond Dotz and artist Hokusai. This is specifically from the Diamond Dotz At Home line, and also goes under the name "A Big Wave Off Kanagawa." I've been on the hunt for this kit since seeing DazzleDriller (IG) work on it, and was happy to find it earlier this year.
Working on this project was a unique experience because I challenged myself to speed run the kit while at a diamond painting retreat, and I ended up finishing this kit just about 24 hours after starting it. I am in CO, and DD static is insane. LOL. But that doesn’t stop me from buying and completing them. I have this specific kit, because this art speaks to me for some reason. I just finished the Lego version of The Wave. And it’s brilliant!!!

I absolutely love the sparkle of Diamond Dotz. I don’t experience the static as you described with this brand. I feel like most kits, regardless of brand, can have static. I live in NC - 2 hrs from the coast. So yes, I live in the balmy south!
I seen this on an instrgram post a while ago, couldn't find it on amazon, so thanks to this video, I'll be able to buy.
This kit was absolutely beautiful. I know it has a lot of static but I just use dryers sheets no matter what company the kit is from. I wouldnt mind doing this one but Im on a limited budget right now. It looks great though! Ive also used the breath method and that works really well for me too.
I agree static drills are a pain...I like diamond dotz...would like to see a square drill review...tfs

I totally remember the running out of drills episode, and as soon as you posted this video I thought to myself ‘I wonder if she ran out of drills.’ So glad you didn’t. I recently completed my first DDotz kit and was blown away by the amount of trash drills. Pity. It could turn me off from buying more kits tho I do have 4 more in my stash 😳😱🫨

This looks awesome! I have done a few DD kits amd yes static has been a consistent issue. I live in Houston, TX (very humid) and the staic is still an issue. On the positive side the sparkle on their round drills is outstanding! I absolutley love their rounds and the way they sparkle!

I live in Florida and almost never experience the static in my drills. If I do have some, it is very minimal and easily dealt with. Thanks for sharing this canvas. Looks beautiful.
I think I would prefer a full drill version of this. I need to check out this company. I swear by dryer sheets for my static issues, which aren’t too often.

The Wave is one of my favorite pieces of art.
Yes, static is a problem for me. What I do is cut up dryer sheets, then put them in the bag, shake the bag, put mess on a tray, then the container. Works properly 90% of the time.
This year I am not in a hurry to finish renderings. I got burnt out last year. With ADHD I hyperfocus. Then my brain says that enough.
I got the diamond princess kit from Craftwearhouse for 30 a few weeks ago. There was a lot of trash. I ran out of 1 color. It is gorgeous when completed though!😊
I am debating on ordering the full drill with squares for this piece. I am also debating on getting the Vermeer masterclass.... but that one is pretty intimidating. I was also thinking about getting a custom of Vermeer's The Milkmaid for next years summer with the masters.
To get rid of static, I poke a couple holes in each drill bag with push pin and stick them in the freezer for a few hours. Then pull them out and kit up. The condensation removes the static and kitting up is a breeze.
Thank you for this beautiful review. I absolutely love diamond dotz, they were the first company I used when I started diamond painting 4 years ago. I have a lot of canvas and I love their rounds. I don’t like static either but in my experience, I have kitted a lot of kits with static and without. How I tackle the problem is I saw a CZcamsr pick up a small dryer sheet square with their tweezers and stick it in an open bag and move it around inside the bag making sure that you also rub the sides of the bag. Pour it into your container and if there is some left in the bag, repeat the process and they will all pour into your container. Everyone uses pieces of dryer sheets in their containers to eliminate static, why not use it in the bag before you try to pour it into your containers. I used to use the alcohol on the q-tip method until I saw this and it’s not wet and messy. Hope this helps. 😺
I think you did a beautiful job on this kit even if you had a few misplaced drills.
I have actually started seeing some Diamond Dotz kits in my local Wal-Mart.
I am working on my #summerwiththemasters2024 piece (not a DD) and, yes, I had static so I put dryer sheets in my containers.
Love the channel, and this diamond painting is very nice. My thing about multi placing. I’ve read in comments that you are not supposed to butt up the square drills against previously placed drills, but essentially when you pick up four or six or 12 at a time aren’t you butting those up against each other? Whenever I use a multiplayer, I get big spaces.
I find the gentle 'huhhh' in the bag of diamonds almost instantly deals with static. However, another creator (whose name escapes me so I can't credit her with the idea) suggested putting rolled up balls of kitchen foil in the bags - which is great for those of us who don't keep dryer sheets 😊👍🏽

Put the package of drills in your freezer for a few days (or longer).. never any static.
