    Thanks for your vulnerability in sharing your circumstances, they resonate almost exactly with our farm in Knysna, along the South Western coast of South Africa. We also farm about 2 acres (just short of a hectare), do farmer's markets, grocery stores and florists and then have CSA and direct to customer retail. The currency is obviously valued differently but your projection seem so similar in relation to ours! We just have 2 other businesses to help our income, and also both have jobs! Thank you for sharing your inspiring videos!

I have followed so many different flower farmers, bought their books, etc....but I've noticed recently that I've been depending on your farm for guidance above all others. Thanks for everything!! How do you decide what to grow and what people will want? In terms of flowers and colors? I'm thinking it's hard to grow for everyone but rather choose particular flowers that do well and although a limited list, it may just work better, even if it doesn't please everyone. Thoughts?

    Our property is just shy of 2 acres. I am a very avid gardener and have wonderful success in my land with peonys, oriental lillies, irises (13 varieties) curly willows, sunflowers, larkspur, delephinums, etc... Shade plants are difficult as we have 80% to 90% sun throughout the day. We recently cleared a 90' x 230' section. I have not planted anything there yet as it was land that hasn't been maintained for 20 years. Would you suggest waiting a 1 year or 2 before proceeding to plant within it?

      Admittedly, we lost our entire prop house this spring during freezing temps and losing heat. Thousands of dollars of dahlias. It sucks to say the very least, but we cleaned out the mess and began again. Weather has been so erratic the last few years, it’s hard to guess from season to season what new curve ball will be thrown our way. Thinking of you and hope your season gets back on track after this crazy start!

      This past winter in Texas was horrible even for non-farmers. The electric grid crashed. No heat. Sewer systems couldn't pump. For farmers it was bad because they lost income too. Not confident federal or state aid reached them.

    • @PepperHarrow
      @PepperHarrow  Před 3 lety +4

      Totally understand your reservations. It took us 7 years in before we finally agreed to do a CSA, mostly for this teasing. No, we don’t reserve a refund. Since we’re 10 years in, we have a pretty good handle on what we can produce.
