    Always paint the roof first so your hose doesn't touch your fresh paint on the body. Plus the overspray from the roof won't land on your freshly painted hood and trunk lids.

    I haven’t watched this particular video yet but I wanted to say ‘thank you’ for your Nova video series. Sadly I lost my older brother recently; the ’72 he’s owned for as long as I can remember has sat parked for the last 10 years. It’s currently in about a million pieces but mostly complete. My brother was a car guy his whole life and as a tribute to him (and probably to help me with grieving) I’m going to rebuild it. I’m DIY but don’t have a lot of experience working on cars. By some chance your “$10 dashboard repair” video showed up in my feed. What I really wanted to tell you is that it wasn’t until I watched a few of your videos that I really started to believe that I could bring his car back to life. I like your presentation style, your attitude “built not bought”, and trust in your skills. I am grateful for your channel.

      Sorry about your brother. You can rebuild it, just tackle little by little, it'll eventually get done. Thanks for watching.

      Sorry to hear about your brother. Regardless of the condition your brothers Nova is I've always said one thing. If you want to build a certain car you at least got to start with that certain car in your case your brothers Nova. If you don't know much about it as you say look at all the videos and label everything you take off and break it up in segments. Yeah say today I'm going to fix this fender take it off the car fix it on the bench. Then you say I'm going to fix this inner fender that's attached it if I just fixed. Fix it hell seems slow but you know how many times somebody has offered me they're very sentimental vehicle because they tore it apart watching different videos or whatever it was had to take pickup trucks to put the parts in and trailer the hall what the husk of the car was parrot be careful not to let that happen to you. I'm an old car guy older than I want to admit but not as old as some of the other ones. But anytime you can bring somebody new into the car restoration of classic cars we as a collective group should help that person. After all Christ is already fallen off of what they were for a 57 Chevy convertible as the group gets older that one of them they're selling them and moving on into nursing homes retirements and even death. My kids always loved these old cars I grew up around them I'd like to have a community of old classic car guys and gals that they can be part of and their children and so forth. I don't know what they're going to do when I get to all unibodies but hey look at the charger 1969. Anyway it will take you a little longer piece mailing it and by the way after you fix for example the left inner fender and out of fender and start spreading out from that point put everything back on at least loosely that you took off. Okay well I'm not going to try to tell you how to do the whole car but I will say that I've always liked painting the hood and trunk lids off the car. I'll paint the fenders while they're off the car as well. Makes it easier to paint what you want black on the inside and paint your outside whatever color. I've lost a few somebody's here recently and that's probably what motivate me when I saw your story. People in these circumstances I think the theme song is that country song from a few years back I drive your truck. Google it if you don't know it. You get all done take that epic road trip 20 miles 2,000 miles whatever it is something you and your brother would love to have done.

    Great approach! Informative no dramatics educational and I stay awake during your video. Okay I may not be glamorous review but in back and teach you something and stay focused and keep your interest that says something! I never sprayed cars professionally but I did spray them. My dad sprayed them he's the one that got me started taught me the basics and the rest just learned to practice. Well growing a mental blank right now I want to say DuPont is what we used to use. I've got a truck down back or what's left of it Chevy truck the fiber connector came loose just disintegrated I had no steering after that spun it sideways crashing off side of a bluff. We had redone that truck and it's so long ago it was supposed to be on the cover of hot rod truck magazine first issue! Well parts of it went to other projects like losing a good friend. In some ways cuz I've lost good friends since then military. But I never buffed a pain out and shine good enough for me. We had no orange peel in it and it's one that my dad painted and it was midnight blue / black it was the blackest black I've ever seen. Now more decades and I'll admit to you it's been sitting under oak trees and other types of trees and I can go down there and buff it with the hand claw and it still looks great acrylic enamel. It was much more expensive than what brand you were using normally. But that's a good brand for the price! I ain't trying to rewrite your video I'm just sharing with you one other important fact. Back in the late 90s my girlfriend at the time had a rubber bumper front car paint it to match the body and this lady come around the gas pumps and took it off. And drove real fast to get out of there. Has this girlfriend at the time was inside pain if I was looking at happening there wasn't anything they could do apparent so I bought some Nason paint and it was acrylic enamel I believe. The guy hit the paint store says it's the same thing as clear coat base coat it just has more pigment in it. I bought some clear and the additive for flex since it is a rubber part and painted it. Well marriage and kids later in the car got Rusty on the bottom and my now wife at the time back then decided she just couldn't get rid of the car too much family history. So I set it out on the farm just to sit there and baking the Sun but it had enough trees around it for gunk to get on it from the trees . This was almost 10 years after I sprayed that bumper. The car had been other accidents before I knew her and you can see the difference now between every paint job and by the way you know she put 100,000 miles on it after I sprayed the bumper and put it on. I will say that my paint still looks better than even the factory paint or any one of the other three paint jobs patches that the other guys put on it and she had to work down at Ford on one of them. So I use what they called acrylic enamel sprayed it with clear and I did all in one step kind of I didn't wait any time except for well if all else fails redirections and that's what I did. Now the acrylic enamel I'm really wanting to spray that because that's what I did base just a good way to cheat and I figure it's another government thing because of polluting the environment I love my environment. I don't know hug and kiss and trees but let's manage what we have respectively. I will look at Morgan videos and all I'm attempting to do sir is to add my little bit of experience to what you said about clear coating acrylic enamel. So I love buying trucks and even cars out of Texas. You don't really have to do a lot of prep to get the paint off. done burned it off!

    I have used that paint once , I also sprayed Nason urethane clear over the top of it. Been that way 5 years now still looks good. I did the clear cause I had it. Have painted my s10 truck with duplicolor engine enamel and cleared it and still looks great 8 years later . Paint is fun but fickle. Nason clear like the 496-00 or 497-00 you need 3 coats 1 light coat then go back why still tacky and put 2 more heavy coats on.

    the best way to keep the flying bugs away from the car for painting or wet painting the car just lay down a plastic sheet like a tarp and set water on it under the car and start painting and the bugs can stay on the water from the reflection on the car paint over night and have zero amount of bugs off the wet paint or clear coat.

    You would be absolutely impressed with what can be done with Rustoleum paint with Acme Finish 1 hardener. Then the next day cover it in some good quality clear with some small pearl flake. I like SPI universal Clear, for the money it’s as good as PPG / DuPont

      was all that less than $104.95?

    • @RustyZipper
      @RustyZipper Před 2 lety

      No sir, it would be about double that but you’d have a far more durable finish that would not chalk over after a few years. A gallon of Rustoleum is about $43 now, a quart of Hardener is around $35 but you’d only need 1/4 or so. You can use SpeedO-Kote high solids clear which is $100 a sprayable gallon vs SPI at $185 a sprayable gallon. The SPI quality could easily compete with the big names if you didn’t tell anyone. Just something to consider for your next build. “DD Speed Shop” just painted a ‘57 Convertible with Rustoleum Red, he’s no where near the quality of painter that you are and he made some major mistakes but he worked through them.

    Doesnt that hardener you used make it flat or satin looking? I 5hought single stage flat paint got its flatness from the hardener.

    hey , its me. When you have a fan that moves a LOT of air- ask yourself " where does the air that this fan is moving come from?" the answer will help you give advice to the people you are reaching out to. Your fan is drawing in air in from outside , you replied to my last post " the bugs are already inside". Gloves off- set up a low buck way to stop drawing into the painting area/booth/carport things that ruin paint jobs.
