It wasn’t only the fact that his damage was super low that made him difficult to use against top tiers. It was also the fact that he had to work WAY harder than characters like raiden and Baraka (top 2) to get remotely okay damage

Baraka was never top 2. He was always the 5th best character. Ashra, Kenshi, Raiden, and Johnny have always been stronger imo. Definitely now that he’s been nerfed.

@@LineaTremolante actually you can extend combos with goro, try b2, b2, j21 - Down kameo into 12 slide. he also has a corner combo with no meter at 34% using clone, i havent labbed it too much but im sure you can get 40%+ with 3 bars but its not worth it with how bad the scaling is on meter burn air dive
When Rooflmonger was going through the patch changes before the notes came out, he found a big problem where Sub Zero’s enhanced ice clones caused the opponent to fall from the second clone after a jump in. I haven’t check it myself but that’s a big problem if it’s still there.
@@jaidorayeah, for two bars, and it's extremely minus so many characters can just armor on reaction. It's also completely countered by teleports and every single one of Kenshi's projectiles. Yes, it's a bug and should be fixed immediately, but it doesn't affect sub's gameplay at all

B2 then 21 in the air then when you land catch the enemy with 21. From there you can extend the combo in your own way but you can simply just finish it with a slide for 301. With Cyrax I’ve been able to hit 365 pretty easily mid screen and 387 in the corner. Edit: bruh no way, I finally played after the update and the combo now is 348 mid screen smh. I knew they nerfed Cyrax but I didn’t know it was his damage as well
You can cancel after the first hit of Sub Zero’s back 2 even if it is blocked. I use Frost’s freeze after the first hit since it is a low and they have to be standing to block your initial attack. I have never seen anyone else do this so I always catch people off guard and get a free combo. Canceling it into his ice slide is also very useful as it is much faster than Frost
It only Works in lower ranks bro. People on Demi God or above punishes this HARD. Be aware that ANY player in the game can get to grand master by Just playing a bunch of matches. Every 50/50 that sub has in this game is false..specially with Kameos. F1 with Frost for example, F kameo has a Gap after b2 enough to poke and It's reactble..It Will only Work with avarege players.

Sub actually has a few double-kameo, meterless combos with Sareena…. Shes seems to be the best BNB kameo for him as of now but he still needs at least a speed and slight damage buff
The chances of you starting a combo with a regular punch with sub zero is super low. He is that bad. Your 36 combos are pretty much non existent in a high level ranked game
Can you do one lf these with Reptile? I feel the devs made so many of his moves low attacks that they forgot overheads and gave him that one that you can charge, i want to learn to do combos without always starting with the same back 3 string
Well as a Tanya main i kinda put them in the same boat they "technically" hav something for everything & need to do way too much jus to get 30% + so taking 25+ & being annoying with the versatility works easier🤷🏾♂️, Ambush kameos r definitely they're bestfriend but i did play against someone spamming Jax,dive kicks & air strings im ashamed to say it was way more effective than it should b
Actually he got a buff that no one is talking about. You can special cancel his back 2 into moves now as long as the first hit is blocked, turning it into a 50/50 that will start a combo

OG MK and Sub Zero player here. I never take MK games seriously even as a massive fan of the franchise because for the most part the game are filled with gimmicky foolishness. However I was always able to pick up a ninja (love the ninjas) and do OK. Sub Zero in this game is pants. Yeah some super serious pro player who knows frame data by heart guy is gonna win a tournament with him but how many of the general playerbase are gonna be doing that? As the a representative of the general playerbase, I aint doin all that. It's clear to see that when you can just throw out random moves that are only punishable with some poke, if that, or have multiple mixup combos THAT LAUNCH, or even a combo that is literally 4444, cancelable into another multi-hit rekka style move, with other characters, that Sub Zero is a garbagio. I won't lie I dont even practice with Sub, my Kameo is Frost, because I absolutely love Frost and my combos are Sub-Optimal. I've found that the keys to winning with him are throw abuse like you said (and I hate fucking throws in fighting games) and mind games. Divekick is easily his best move but the iceball can be measured in light years and the ice clone cooldown is far too long. Also what the hell is that floor ice vapour business? He's trash. If I wasn't a Sub fan I'd laugh him out the room.

Yeah, I love smoke, especially in this game but with Serena this guy I faced in league he would literally wait the entire game, just Cushing and waiting till he had three bars and two cameos and then the combo he was doing like 48% damage
Idk if i agree about players not using throws. It doesnt take my opponenets long at all to figure out that defending against throws is by far my biggest weakness and they abuse the hell out of it. Anyone have any tips? Or is it really just, get good?
IMHO they need to buff his moves faster, I can live without damage, but he has no way to initiate offense And that's why sub resorts to clone spamming or capitalizing on clone punishing
when i play sub zero, while at neutral its always a good idea to throw out an ice klone oftenly to protect yourself from projectiles, and hes right GRABS ARE YOUR FRIEND sub zero needs them! Sareena and Scorpion are good kameos for him, ik it sucks but freezing your enemies can heavily scale your damage to be worse so its better to throw out kombos that dont rely on freezing alot, just use the ice klone if anything

Honestly, I feel that NRS nerfed Sub Zero and ignored him this recent patch because everyone complained about him in MK11, as MKTomBrady said to make him an “honest” character which would be weird because this game is not that very honest.🤔 Thoughts anyone?
I have a few guesses why, he’s a popular ninja character, he was easy to pick up, and his moves were all flashy during the beta even when Johnny Cage was included (he was way more fun to play as but needed more control than Bi Han). That being said, it’s probably because the rest of the main roster needs player feedback in case of any unaccounted bugs or issues that weren’t fully explored. There are still plenty of things to discuss but Sub Zero definitely needs a damage buff or something.
@@jaidora Yeah, I agree. I think they need to buff his mid to like 12 or 13 frames and take out the gap in his mid and his 1 2. Buff the ice klone slightly.

i have to guess if the oponnent gonna do a armor attack in every single string i do with sub-zero because of the gap and i cant be save in any especial attack i do. raiden and havik have plus frames on some crazy slow attacks but sub-zero gets -22 for a slide or overhead, and i can't cancel de first hit of the back 2 with nothing because he have no safe special option. any armor attack breaks the ice and hits sub-zero because of the recovery. tha'ts so trash
Its not just about damage,he is too slow,his mix isnt real,he has the gaps in evry string,ice cline has 6 seconds cooldown,ex ice ball is ussles,ex clone is also ussles,ex clone punch should go full screen, ice ball freze duration should be longer.Also bunch of character have safe 50/50 that lead to high damage,but no sub zero cant have that.
On top of that, people can hit through the ice clone even when it's fully out. If you do manage to get the last hit in, you can't combo off of it, so enemies only have to block low to avoid any real damage. Meanwhile, EVERY other character has different mix-ups mid-string that can full combo punish AND are safe on them. The only way to successfully open people up is running Kung Lao for the cameo. It's ridiculous.
Idk man high level subs are scary I'm getting smashed on by demi gods/gods in kombat league 😮💨 and I main RAIDEN I even lost a local tourney to a sub 🤧 it feels like just his damage is bad
@casadovah4684 high level players are high level players. If anything, subzero players are mechanically better st the higher levels because of how trash Sub's kit is. You're punished far more and have to work harder to do the same thing as every other character.
as a subzero main, just remove the reduced damage scaling with his ice ball, ice clone, and deadly vapors. that’s all he needs, his non metered damage is pretty decent. It’s just his metered combos that sucks.
I always see people saying "Netherrealm hates Sub Zero". If they really hate the character, then just axe the character from the franchise. And yes, everyone will still buy the game who's interested in MK.
I've been having fun with Sub tbh. The 50/50 with Sareena is very strong and you can play keep away and defensive. I personally don't use Sareena twice unless it's a kill because your options are very nerfed if you don't have her up

Since they nerf cyrax and the damage is much more easy to win with subz. Before the update i was stuck at god. Now after 2 days im almost elder. I still lose to millena from time to time but its much more fair.
Sub-zero frankly deserves low damage. He has such a ridiculous amount of tools that if he didn’t have crap damage than there’s no chance of other chars managing to get or do anything. Like he doesn’t need a tracking hit or that air glide kick for combo starting
With sub zero, you can get 30% damage without any bar at all, I use him all the time with Sareen in League. Do the Overhead 2x, the slam them back down then do a 2 piece, finally into the slide

For the love of God idk why they buffed Nitara only if Sub-Zero really needed it. Scorpion does help with the combos but it's not enough.

I used to do this, but in higher ranks, this doesnt work, they just block. Now i am playing with Goro. But the best kameo option must be Kung Lao.

Yeah, I love smoke, especially in this game but with Serena this guy I faced in league he would literally wait the entire game, just Cushing and waiting till he had three bars and two cameos and then the combo he was doing like 48% damage

Idk if i agree about players not using throws. It doesnt take my opponenets long at all to figure out that defending against throws is by far my biggest weakness and they abuse the hell out of it. Anyone have any tips? Or is it really just, get good?
most players have a pattern when they throw alot so figure out the pattern so you can tech them

when i play sub zero, while at neutral its always a good idea to throw out an ice klone oftenly to protect yourself from projectiles, and hes right GRABS ARE YOUR FRIEND sub zero needs them! Sareena and Scorpion are good kameos for him, ik it sucks but freezing your enemies can heavily scale your damage to be worse so its better to throw out kombos that dont rely on freezing alot, just use the ice klone if anything

Honestly, I feel that NRS nerfed Sub Zero and ignored him this recent patch because everyone complained about him in MK11, as MKTomBrady said to make him an “honest” character which would be weird because this game is not that very honest.🤔 Thoughts anyone?
They kept johnny the same so yeah this is not a honest game. They barely tested the dumb stuff like baraka cyrax before release
I have a few guesses why, he’s a popular ninja character, he was easy to pick up, and his moves were all flashy during the beta even when Johnny Cage was included (he was way more fun to play as but needed more control than Bi Han). That being said, it’s probably because the rest of the main roster needs player feedback in case of any unaccounted bugs or issues that weren’t fully explored. There are still plenty of things to discuss but Sub Zero definitely needs a damage buff or something.

@@jaidora Yeah, I agree. I think they need to buff his mid to like 12 or 13 frames and take out the gap in his mid and his 1 2. Buff the ice klone slightly.

i have to guess if the oponnent gonna do a armor attack in every single string i do with sub-zero because of the gap and i cant be save in any especial attack i do. raiden and havik have plus frames on some crazy slow attacks but sub-zero gets -22 for a slide or overhead, and i can't cancel de first hit of the back 2 with nothing because he have no safe special option. any armor attack breaks the ice and hits sub-zero because of the recovery. tha'ts so trash
Its not just about damage,he is too slow,his mix isnt real,he has the gaps in evry string,ice cline has 6 seconds cooldown,ex ice ball is ussles,ex clone is also ussles,ex clone punch should go full screen, ice ball freze duration should be longer.Also bunch of character have safe 50/50 that lead to high damage,but no sub zero cant have that.
On top of that, people can hit through the ice clone even when it's fully out. If you do manage to get the last hit in, you can't combo off of it, so enemies only have to block low to avoid any real damage. Meanwhile, EVERY other character has different mix-ups mid-string that can full combo punish AND are safe on them. The only way to successfully open people up is running Kung Lao for the cameo. It's ridiculous.

Idk man high level subs are scary I'm getting smashed on by demi gods/gods in kombat league 😮💨 and I main RAIDEN I even lost a local tourney to a sub 🤧 it feels like just his damage is bad

@casadovah4684 high level players are high level players. If anything, subzero players are mechanically better st the higher levels because of how trash Sub's kit is. You're punished far more and have to work harder to do the same thing as every other character.

as a subzero main, just remove the reduced damage scaling with his ice ball, ice clone, and deadly vapors. that’s all he needs, his non metered damage is pretty decent. It’s just his metered combos that sucks.
Scaling on 2 1 needs to go to. Despite it not being a freeze it has freeze Scaling.

I've been having fun with Sub tbh. The 50/50 with Sareena is very strong and you can play keep away and defensive.
I personally don't use Sareena twice unless it's a kill because your options are very nerfed if you don't have her up

Since they nerf cyrax and the damage is much more easy to win with subz. Before the update i was stuck at god. Now after 2 days im almost elder. I still lose to millena from time to time but its much more fair.
Sub-zero frankly deserves low damage. He has such a ridiculous amount of tools that if he didn’t have crap damage than there’s no chance of other chars managing to get or do anything. Like he doesn’t need a tracking hit or that air glide kick for combo starting
I would say scorpion is worse than sub zero. They both need some major nerfs. Scorpion needs a couple more combo strings and sub zero needs damage.
I ran into a Sub that use Goro to keep a lot of moves safe and also get full kombos off of his low starter and overhead string
With sub zero, you can get 30% damage without any bar at all, I use him all the time with Sareen in League. Do the Overhead 2x, the slam them back down then do a 2 piece, finally into the slide
Basically, I keep his meter just for breakers
In the higher tiers its basically impossible to hit the back 2 without freezing them or using enhanced deadly vapours
I’m done with this game. I tried to stick it out with subzero. But after this bullshit with the 1200 fatality, I’m officially done with this game.

Learn how to instant air dive kick. If done correctly it's -3 and by done correctly I mean so fast their isn't a jump animation just dive kick.
