havent watched your video yet but would 100% agree to a speedpass ban. However I'd also ban baton pass + any stat boosting move. I find cmpass and sdpass just as problematic as speedpass. It's a part of why I run haze weezing a lot - it's the best answer to a lot of baton pass strategies and I hate losing to it. Teams are designed to handle threats in isolation (to some degree) and often can't cope with threats once an extra layer is added to it via baton pass. Preventing baton pass is something a lot of teams can't do consistently (moreso slower-playing team styles however) and it can push a lot of pokemon over the edge pretty easily. youre welcome to disagree of course but I personally can't stand it even though I have adapted to it.
I think we should also ban accuracy lowering and confusion moves (at least that don't also do damage - i have less of a problem with dynamic punch and muddy water), they're obnoxious and only make the competitive game worse imo.

34:19 Yes, speedpass is good for the metagame, because it opens up the teambuilding options you have for including mons that otherwise struggle to have a place in the metagame.
Gen3OU isn't celebrated for just its "balance", and you fail to see that encompassed within that is peoples' ability to use more things beyond just what is explicitly tiered as OU. Gen3OU absolutely dwarfs Gen4OU now in playcount, it's not even close, and that meta has all these bans your camp is calling for. Despite that, it's less popular.
Marowak of course, Ursaring, Heracross without Salac Berry, the possibilities are plenty even under the current one passer ruling.
And further, it's just one more archetype out of the many that produces the tier's diversity---but not just that, a great *offensive* archetype that you can use to end games in less than 15 turns. Not everyone wants to play 60+ turn switch-fests where they have to respect their opponent's boring balance team.
Absolutely, Baton Pass is beneficial and even essential for real Pokemon that excites the soul. If you can't deal with it, you built a bad team or played badly. I once beat Mead while he was using the Hypno MeadPass team just with lead Breloom, just Focus Punch'ing and Spore'ing (obviously, the evidence is wiped now). When you actually *know* the metagame and what roughly you're up against, then you have an idea of how you should approach a Baton Pass matchup the moment it arises. You don't even need Roar or Phazing---unless you make a team, like stall, that obviously would. In that case, you prep better, and make the necessary adjustments to counter something like the Magneton in the back.

wak is fine without speedpass, just run para spam. it's not *as* good as pairing it with swagger ninjask but still totally viable lol.
I can use and handle baton pass without issues and I have adapted to it, but I hate playing with/against it and find it a degenerate and awful strategy that makes the game less fun.
I think baton pass is fine if it's extremely limited:
      - no baton pass + trappers
      - no baton pass + stat boosting moves or abilities
i don't mind subpass and berrypass so much, the ceiling of the damage they can do is just so much lower.

You said it yourself: just use "offensive pressure".
Smogonites just hate losing to Baton Pass in any way shape or form, and being pressed to rethink their tired/stale teambuilding.
It doesn't matter what form it takes or what adaptations the *Baton Pass users* will make. Your lot will complain every time no matter how much you nerf it, all the while refusing to meet it half way.
There is nothing wrong with Baton Pass. The 3 passer ruleset was perfectly fine. The current ruleset, as biased and lopsided against BP it is, has also "worked" thus far.
Pokemon will always be an RNG-riddled un-competitive game, because that is fundamentally what it is at its core---in fact ABR just lost a match he was going to win in ADV Revival to a last turn crit. All you Swagger haters, Sand Attack haters, BP haters, trapping haters, whatever it is that triggers you after a loss, is just removing other peoples' options for having fun despite that and enjoying the game for what it is.

This just sounds extremely ignorant tbh. The point is that speed pass takes away alot of offensive pressure that you could use for other forms of BP, (CM Pass, SD Pass) and this also doesn't account for all forms of speed pass. As addesss3d in the video ninjask addepts to this by spamming luck based Moves to make it to where you are forced to give up the favorable position. Other forms of speed pass do this with Phasing Moves of there own or Smeargle w Sleepd and Taunt. People lose it because it's consistent at top level and historically hasn't been healthy for not just ADV but any meta that has allowed baton pass ever. (AdV lower tiers, dPP, SO on.) So this notion that everyone is terrible anf are complaining about nothing is complete nonsense.

@@DarthtyrossDon't start with the "you don't play the game" cope, man.
I've faced you a few times before on ladder. [*edited because of brain fart confusion*]
I've seen and faced multiple variations of Baton Pass, this year and years prior. I've used multiple variations of Baton Pass, this year and years prior, including multiple speed pass teams, with Zapdos, Rapidash, Aipom even. I am well-acquainted with the mechanic and archetype and familiar with how the matchup goes. This is not a matter of ignorance---it is a matter of difference of opinion.
Your second sentence, I don't understand what you're trying to say.
Your third sentence, "luck-based move" as if anything that doesn't have a 100% chance to work and creates some kind of advantage one way or the other isn't a "luck-based move". And, as if Sand Attack is just as powerful as Double Team..... when you can just switch out. "But then I give the opponent a free turn!"... yes, that's the strat, you force a switch or the risk of missing---just like the lead Ninjask vs *Rock Slide* Tyranitar matchup.
Pokemon is a tactical and strategic game---none of these elements are automatic "I win, you lose" buttons.
"Healthy" is a buzzword (just like 'fun') with no inherent meaning. It means whatever the user wants it to mean against something they don't like.
You don't have to be "terrible". You just have to be unwilling to adapt.

Your argument is that you find speed pass fun and don’t want it to be banned, not whether it is uncompetitive. Thats fair if u think that but it’s not what this video is about.

    • @yourdagan
      @yourdagan Před 8 měsíci

@@Alexcoman51 If you ignore the parts where I addressed the counterplay, and pointed out that opponents of Baton Pass as a mechanic are never satisfied despite the existence of counterplay, and reminded you all that Pokemon is not even a "competitive" game in the first place.
So this arbitrary banning of mechanics *you* don't like is a fool's mission, and contrary even to an *actual* competitive spirit of adaptation, since you insist upon *not* utilizing the counterplay the game provides you, and complaining about a mechanic that was programmed into the game as a natural part of it in the very first place.
