    Our first fun stop of this season's 2018-19 RV snowbird travels finds up camped a Nehalem Bay State Park on the Oregon Coast. The campground and beach are beautiful, and it makes a good base station explore this northern region of the coast.
    In this video, I show you our campsite and a little bit of the campground. I also take you for a walk out to the breach and show an overview of the area from high up on one of the 101 highways many viewpoints.
    Stay tuned as I have 2 more videos on the way from visits to nearby Cannon Beach, one of our all-time favs. I have some highlights from our afternoon there and an exceptional late day sunset scene. Cheers, Ray

    My favorite OR coast beach state campground. How lucky you were to have such beautiful weather this time of year. It is so busy in summer but you can always get away from people if you are willing to walk south along the beach. We like to bike in this area. Manzanita had a tornado 2 years ago. Good pizza place there.

    We just got back from there. We usually go in the off season. The last two loops (not the horse camp loop) only get 10-20% occupied after Sept. You can save yourself the $8 unless you’re really uncomfortable about it or want to stay in the first two loops. I’ve not seen those full either in the off season. We’ve never had an issue. Summer time; you better book 6-9 months or more in advance. It fills up as does everything down there. All beaches in Oregon are public; not private; so you have full access. Lots of great areas very close by. All the State campgrounds are wonderful.

    It takes a while to leave an old friend behind and move on. When my old fella passed early this year I debated long and hard whether I would get another dog. In May I got another puppy and man o man has he been a pain in the arse. He has also been a loving dog and does things that separates himself from his predecessor. While dogs are major commitments, they also provide countless hours of enjoyment and companionship.

    Wondering how that ride was on the Black Ball Ferry ? Coming from Pender Island late December, and skipping the 5 until Olympia. Ram 3500/ 5.7 hemi, with a 1300 lb camper on this trip. The trailer is parked in Needles, Ca. The truck is amazing, and having just upgraded from a 1500...massive differences, all round. You are in hill country for sure, did that trip down to Pacific City. OR. 2 years ago with the trailer, knew then I needed that bigger beast. ( Funny, the weather you are in was better than we had in August) Although the 1/2 ton never failed, and the tow/haul worked wonderfully well....size matters..Enjoy your new truck, and safe travels.

    We were there last June. We booked the previous October and the park campground was already 2/3 reserved for the week we reserved. We rode our bikes into Manzanita. Nice ice cream shop there. The campground was full while we were there and the spaces don’t offer much privacy since there is no vegetation between the sites. Lots of campfire smoke, would rather smell the ocean air. We stayed at various state park campgrounds from Brookings in the south to Fort Stevens in the north last June and while the campgrounds were kinda average for layout and design the surrounding ocean vistas made up for it. We would like to return but try out some of the interior Oregon site parks. Missing Angie. Safe travels.

      I think there is some first come first serve on a different loop, it varies from park to park how many, rather than mess around I just reserved. Guess you could always call the individual parks and talk to a Ranger.

      Thanks for the reply.
      I have mixed feelings about reservations (reservations about reservations?)
      On the one hand, it's nice to know there's a spot waiting for you at the end of a long busy day.
      On the other hand, it puts a rather large crimp in the 'go anywhere, free as a bird' style of camping.
      I guess it's just the way camping/RVing is going.

      Yeah, we rarely reserve but will do if I want a certain length and location of a spot or if the park is a busy one. I just reserved two weeks at Lost Dutchman, that's always a tough one to get into. But we love the view! Cheers, Ray

    Hi Ray, You said your truck "indicated" 12 MPG. Did that number come from the onboard computer calculation of MPG? I'd be really curious what you measure as actual MPG by tracking mileage and gallons between fill-ups and doing the math manually. My 2005 Cummins Dodge computer calculated MPG runs from 3 - 5 MPG too high consistently. The buddy I bought it from was convinced it got 25+ MPG on the highway (no load). Reality was closer to 20. My real towing MPG averages around 10-11 while the computer will indicate 13-14. Curious how accurate the computer mileage is on the new trucks. Thanks!

      @LoveYourRV  Před 5 lety

      So far the computer on mine and my manual calculation are very close, but limited mileage to draw from so far
      I have a Trip A set so will do a few thousand miles then compare the onboard computer with my manual bookkeeping figures.

    Thank you for this Video, I was thinking of Little Angie too, Running uphill to get the first glimpse at the Beach :-0). I am Happy of you being happy about the new Blue !! Do you leave the Tow/Haul mode on all the time that you tow? What about Exhaust Brake?, I have not had time to do a full Study on mine yet and dealer was not clear about those features. I use Exhaust brake going down hill and adjusting speed with the brake Pedal at the beginning of Descent. And tow/Haul mode sure gives me smoother safer Ride, responding quicker.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Před 5 lety +1

      I use Tow/Haul mode and in the curvy/hilly areas like the coast here have been using the auto exhaust brake mode, left on all the time, does a nice job. I think the full exhaust bake mode is for steep descents.
      Here is the quote from the manual:
      Automatic Exhaust Brake technology delivers smoother,
      less aggressive exhaust braking characteristics during
      downhill descents. Although it can apply full exhaust
      braking force if needed, Automatic Exhaust Brake may
      not apply obvious braking if the vehicle speed is not
      increasing. Automatic Exhaust Brake is intended to maintain
      vehicle speed, while Full Exhaust Brake is intended
      to reduce vehicle speed.

      I guess you have to know the sites. I saw lots of 90-degree site entrances with trees all around the front. Many looked like they would be a real chore to get into, especially if another camper was parked across from it. I have an 8-foot bed crew cab so the truck is long.

      Too many rules and regulations to worry about when posting online to a wide audience. I'll leave the drones to others.
      Like for instance in this case not sure if the Oregon state park allows them, there is an airstrip right in the park and protected Snowy Plover wildlife. Cheers, Ray

      @LoveYourRV  Před 2 lety

      I was there a few weeks ago and it was $31 a night. I don't know of much free camping on the Oregon coast these days. It's pretty popular place to camp and not much free public land. Most is State Parks, with some National forest lands but not much of that is suitable for larger RVs.
