  • This is the NHTSA NCAP side crash test for 2018 Tesla Model 3 (RWD/Long Range)
NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) Side Moving Deformable Barrier Impact: Crash test dummies representing an average-sized adult male and a small-sized adult female are placed in the driver and rear passenger seats (driver's side), respectively, and are secured with seat belts. The side crash rating represents an intersection-type collision by having a 3,015 pound (1367kg) barrier moving at 38.5 mph (62km/h) into a standing vehicle. The moving barrier is covered with material that is crushable to replicate the front of a vehicle. 1 star is the lowest rating; 5 stars is the highest. More stars equal safer cars.
    Overall Rating: 5-Star
    Overall Front Star Rating: 5-Star
    Front Driver Side: 5-Star
    Front Passenger Side: 5-Star
    Overall Side Star Rating: 5-Star
Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings (Front Seat): 5-Star
Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings (Rear Seat): 5-Star
    Side Barrier Rating: 5-Star
    Side Barrier (Driver): 5-Star
    Side Barrier (Rear Passenger): 5-Star
    Rollover Star Rating: 5-Star
The rollover rating measures the risk of rollover in a single-vehicle, loss-of-control scenario.

I think it actually apply the brakes locking the wheels. I might be wrong, but I saw the brake lights come on in all the crash test videos on this car.

I mean, for a computer, the time between the start and the end of the Hit is actually a lot

A lot of newer cars will do this once any of the Impact Sensors are triggered. e.g. when the Airbags go off.

You can even see the cars safety features turn on the hazards and apply the brake

NHTSA isn't the only crash testing organization, you know? The IIHS is more credible for doing more realistic and demanding tests. Watch my Dateline frontal crash test videos and you'll know. Actually, the Tesla Model S didn't even get the highest crash test ratings! Tesla just flat out lied about the Model S getting 6 stars in the NHTSA test, because the highest rating is 5. It has missed the IIHS' Top Safety Pick since 2016 because it only got an Acceptable rating in the driver's side small overlap test. Even the tiny Honda Fit got a higher Good rating! My beloved Toyota Sienna (ditto Honda Odyssey) also has an average annual death rate of ZERO. Many years, it doesn't have a single fatality. It's even safer than Mercedes and Volvo! It has an estimated death rate of 7-8 per year if there were 1 million drivers, still much lower than any Tesla.

It looks like the side airbags deploy from the top. Does anyone know whether there are seat mounted side airbags?

Cars don’t crash at those low speeds anymore they need increase the speed on the frontal crashes like 5 - 10 mph more

      From the video description:
"The side crash rating represents an intersection-type collision by having a 3,015 pound (1367kg) barrier moving at 38.5 mph (62km/h) into a standing vehicle."

where are they repeating the same sound in every test video?
if your camera can't capture sound, don't fake it.
