  • Colchester, England - This is a walk to Colchester Castle Park, leading to Colchester Caste, and incredible museum with a collection that spans 2000 years from the iron age to current history. After visiting the castle, we walked around Colchester and passed the Visitor Information Centre, Town Hall and St. Michael's Church. Colchester, England first town, was Roman Britain's capitol.
    If you visit the Castle, be sure to use the pad offered (like an iPad) to get more information on the items in the museum. This pad turned Roman soldier grave markers from stone-coloured to brightly coloured with a lot of red, as it would have looked at the time they were created. Also, don't miss the basement prisons where the Witchfinder General interrogated his subjects.

    My home town where I grew up. It's nice to see it from the perspective of a grateful visitor because as an ex-local it's easy to take the place for granted. I'm still a proud Colcestrian!

    Nice Video, we stayed in Colchester in one of the old Hotels that's said to have a ghost, Colchester now is a military garrison town, and if your naughty they have the Military prison there, where I live in Billericay towards London, we have a Roman Military fort which has been lost!, as the Roman's moved further inland they kept a route of communication and supply, running from Colchester down to Tilbury, on the Tilbury road they built their fort, I walk across the farm that had the fort, can still find old tiles in the fields but not much else, the Roman's sure selected their ground well to build towns or forts, Colchester is one of them

    • @TravelswithVandSteve
      @TravelswithVandSteve  Před 3 lety

      We almost stayed at a hotel that is haunted, but I wasn't sure how close it was to the castle...it's very close, so maybe next time. We need to spend more time in the area and see Tilbury. It must be so cool to find Roman tiles! I'm jealous. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

      @@TravelswithVandSteve whole of England is more or less haunted, personally a good nights sleep is better when booking a hotel🤣, Yes Tilbury is famous for Queen Elizabeth I, Mayflower Ship, Vikings, Roman's, list is endless, 8 recomend Folkstone, over looked often, full of history and great walks, Dungeness and Hyde just up the road

      @@TravelswithVandSteve Mayflower was also built at Harwich up the Essex coast, and another interesting place is Rotherhythe in London, lots of Mayflower connection there, at that time Billericay was a main market town and supplied wool and goods to London and the continent, Holland, Netherlands etc, Tilbury was the route, dates back to Pre Roman, happy investigating
