This is my favorite car of all time. My mom had the exact same one in red but I think it had a sunroof. My dad had a BMW dealership and my mom picked me up from school and and we went to see her new car bring off loaded from the truck. She loved that car. It's great to see a restoration of such a great car; it makes me so happy to see it; thank you 😃😃👍👍👏👏

Kicked into a customers '80's RS escort today.. same colour as your beemer.. pulled everything off - interior, all bolt ons, dash, all glass blah blah - had a bare shell + engine/running gear by days end. I think it gives your beemer a run for its money on the "Is any bit not rusted out?" front. :-) That Datsun springs to mind...

I did just buy a very rusty Mercedes Benz W111 coupe that looks like it's had a skim coat of filler wiped all over it in a previous restoration that's starting to fail. Absolutely astonishing fabrication skills from what seems to be 'just a shed' !
However i wonder is: how long will this hold? The rust prevention SEEMS just some zinc spray, which is a pity considering the amount of caring tlc.
Another question: you SEEM to cut rusted parts first and than you start fabricating replacement body parts. How do you know the replacement part should look and fit, if the old part is gone (thrown away??) ? Am i right you use the panel on the other mirrored side as guide?
Do you spotweld or seamweld the fabricated parts to the original body?
Thanks for this video that is both relaxing and educational.

It always hurts me to see such extensive rust damage on a beautiful car like this. Especially if someone just smeared bondo on it. You should deal with rust before it gets out of hand. If you just cover it up it continues to eat up the metal underneath. Good that there are Craftsmen like you who can fix it the proper way. I always admired people who can work with metal like that. It is art. I have a 635csi from 83. Luckily only with a few very tiny spots of surface rust in the engine bay and on the wheel arches. All the metal still is untouched original because i deal with the rust as soon as i notice it.
