- Wanted to try something new-or rather, old, since this is what I've wanted to make from the beginning, but I didn't have any editing skills back then. Let me know what you guys think.
For those unaware, Mental Omega is a free unofficial expansion pack for Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge, just recently reaching the 10th anniversary of its version 3.0 release.

At last i will be able to see the full story of this game, unhindered by my utter and complete lack of skill with the game
this. it's pretty fascinating how they recreated an RA2 plot on steroids, but every time i try to get into MO i get overwhelmed by all the shit going on as well as tons of units and end up not continuing after a few missions in. i always wanted to get to know the full story as well and am really thankful somebody puts in the effort to retell it in this video format
A few missions in is still further than I get. I keep dying to the first enemy group in the first Epsilon mission XD@@sulik6228
Tbh it's not your fault their level design and approach to difficulty is just not good.
@@EugenijusKrenis MO missions are very hard, but if you have hard (saying this as pvp player) time with the very basics, then maybe MO is not for you.
@@user-tj5uz3iq2v it's rote spamming and breaking trough lasagna layers of enemies turning this into an endurance test of constantly clicking down the correct build orders while aware of upcoming threats after a replay, I just refuse to partake in this repetitive nonsense. It's absolutely a design approach not skill issue.

just for extra context, the war in mental omega starts in 1982 a full decade later than in the original red alert 2 (1972).
Sure is brilliant, the fact that the Soviets and Yuri's Epsilons had to delay for another year so prevent the debacles in Red Alert 2's Allied campaign and also in Yuri's Revenge.
@@michaelandreipalon359 . those years of difference changed a lot. china and latin confederation, the US relations with other allied nations souring, the launch of a tv satellite the soviets later used to guide their launch of MIDAS and even the cyborg technology being reclaimed by them.
but most importantly, einstein is nowhere around.

@@Arthas972 You'll see later in the mod that there's an old Chronosphere on Antarctica, and adding that with Yuri's supposed foresight when it comes to talking with the Epsilon player character, the Proselyte...
Oh, and it's also a sequel/spin-off of the Tiberian Sun mod Twisted Insurrection. Suffice to say, it involves a break-in to a Chronosphere on storage.
@@Arthas972the 2.0 mod is a sequel and the Time Machine implies that someone tried to change this history, possibly Yuri
I had no idea this was a thing, and I've been singing the praises of RA2+YR ever since '04. Thank you for this!
It's worth a try, because this is not mere expansion, rather prequel, sequel and retelling of original RA2/YR. It has so many new units, game modes, and MP features. Personally it's one of my top three mods of all time.
The A.I. Voice of Yuri sounded so good. I would certainly like it if you would use it more.
I haven't heard from Udo Kier in years, he'd probably voice some clips for a moderate amount as well 😆
@@esprit101 He probably could not because he is not the owner of the character Yuri, EA is.
For example, there is a Reddit post of Kane actor answering fans questions and explaining how is his life after CnC, and one of the questions was if he ever considered being in fans animations as Kane as a voice actor or even in short movies.
The response he gave is that he would have loved to join them, but couldn't, because his character played by him is owned by EA, and EA doesn't allow this.

Did you know that Yuri, is (or was, idk) actually an acolyte of Kane and a very prominent member of Nod? Turns out, his mind control "tricks" were never developed by the Soviet Union, but rather the Brotherhood of Nod.
considering how kane himself was stalin's advisor during the first red alert.
My personal headcanon for Mental Omega is that the Proselyte is actually Kane.
This idea is based off of No Strings Prd's "Chronology of Red Alert" video that theorizes that the Tiberium timeline is a result of a Soviet victory in RA1. Since Yuri and Kane both knew and worked for Stalin directly, and given their similar ambitions, it's possible that Kane was forced to disband the Brotherhood of Nod following the Allied victory, and due to his ties with Yuri, would end up becoming his closet ally. Perhaps we could take it a step further. Who's to say that a good portion of the Epsilon soldiers are actually remnants of the Brotherhood?
That was part of WW's wanted to tie Red alert and Tiberium saga. As far as I know, it was abandoned and considered non Canon due to many inconsistencies

Thanks so much, I always wanted lore vids for MO. And this is a great format, both silly with memes, and serious, treating the story with due diligence.
One thing I can say, is that the Epsilon Army's young female psychic trump card will beat down the heck out of some Allied "Homura Akemi" Legionnaires.
I've been waiting for someone to make a lore video about Mental Omega and watching this, I was not disappointed, especially with the AI voiced Yuri. I hope to see more parts of this in the future.

I finished this mod's campaign twice now but I want to someone narrate it. There are times that the algorithm will give me good recommendations and I thank it for finding this video!

Warfare both in the front line and the shadow is interesting! Political struggle in Kremlin, loose cooperation of the allied, and all the adversity PsiCorps had, during a total war. Act 1 is absolutely awesome.
also yuri can just phone them and disable a base in 10 seconds so that probably helped seal any leaks

The other reason for the USA to build only a nuclear base is because they lack funding.
After the founding of the Latin Confederation, the US military budget has grown tight every day.
The US influence across the globe declined and was forced to invent new tech to replace the using of Nuclear weapons. (Political of the Allied greatly forbid Nukes)
US military invented many high-tech and the most prominence is the Mercury sat with is literally, the GDI Ion cannon term for destrustion power. (But it's not completed yet and never be)
Also remember that in this timeline, the Soviets invented the nuclear weapons, not the United States. These weapons where looted from the soviets and then used as a deterrent, but the idea of mutually assumed destruction is on nobody's mind in this entire setting. A single launch site makes sense when your goal is to stop soviet invasions, while meanwhile you're developing a space laser network that can do the same task and much more due to the precision. Nukes in this timeline are likely seen by the US millitary command as "crude soviet weapons."
The more truely unrealistic thing in this timeline is how the Russians gain so much progress just because they didn't have the setback of the real life world war II, but that's more a complaint of red alert 1. That and the psionics and the time travel and the Iron Curtains and all that other stuff but you know, semantics.

The Allied focus on the power to control time and space, AKA Chronosphere.
They saw war and nuke obsolete.
Soviet tech isn't complicated. Its focus is on basic doctrine...high firepower and heavy armor.
Except for the Nuke and Tesla tech, the Soviets literally had nothing from the start and stole the Allied tech for their own good.

Although in truth there is not enough more video about the development of MO, I personally found only interesting echoes, such as the fact that MO and Twisted Insurection were previously planned to be united, or the fact that the developers had some kind of conflict with the chinese
Godddaaaam. Mate this is awesome. I never played mental omega or even the first CnC games (too stupid to download them, i still dont know how), so this for me is the closest thing ill get to playing.
Great video & funny editing sprinkled throughout! I still remember finishing Mental Omega earlier this year & I had to go back to the wiki each time a mission ended in how it ties up to the overall story. I even created an addon which reorders all the campaign missions chronologically so I can follow through the story XD. Great stuff! Hope you get to finish the entire campaign storyline!

@@Igor-ug1op It doesn't have any significance, it just makes understanding the Lore easier. For the order, you can search "Moddb Mental Omega 3.3.6 Missions in Chronological Order" in google & it should be the first one to pop up

At around 11:00 The Psi agents patched a bit of mind control tech into the communication lines, allowing the sabotage of all silos across the country, not just at that base.
Please continue with this series! I never was able to bring myself to play the MO campaigns because I didn't feel like reading a bunch of tiny texts on the top left of the screen while a million things are happening at the same time. Your videos would be a great way to understand what happened.
I really hope that this will be a long series, mental omega is a very chonky mod

Struggle with the Game, Enjoyably Play the Story. Yep, that's basically Mental Omega, and also games like the Wing Commander series up to IV: The Price of Freedom, Warcraft I: Orcs & Humans, the original System Shock, and the Sierra "X Quest" puzzle adventures for me.

Fascinating how the Third Great War got delayed for ten more years, in heavy contrast to how it occurred in the official Westwood worldline via 1972 (the very year Boris and Morales' mission happened in the MO worldline).

Gotta love the importance of the Leninsk/Baikonur Cosmodrome in both C&C: Generals+Zero Hour and here on MO.
10:54: There are implications that this wasn't the only PsiCorps op against the Peacekeepers. It's just that only the Proselyte's side of things is displayed onscreen... regardless, the majority of "Peacekeeper" nicely can fit the official RA2 lore.

Maybe the reason for why American ICBMs were only at Vandenberg were not pride, nor overconfidence, but budget cuts. Maybe Americans thought that there was no need to invest so much money into production and upkeep of new nukes, if there was no one to challenge their nuclear monopoly.

Mental Omega is ball busting hard, it's got even harder because the old control of RA 2. If the game somehow got an updated control scheme it would make the game so much more enjoyable. I finished it on hard difficulty with a good amount of try and error.
