    My husband trained in Goose Creek before we were moved out here to Guam, and in one of his indoc briefs they actually spent the time to warn the students not to get involved with the party scene at College of Charleston. Lol. It’s nice hearing about more about the school. I miss living in CHS so much; it’s such a beautiful and historic city, and it must be so much fun as an arts student to learn in a place like that! I loved my university, but it would have been a dream to have galleries and places to sit and draw within walking distance of school.

    Thanks so much for making this video. It was very informative getting it from a real student giving her honest views. I'm a parent (father) of a high school senior that has been accepted. I have so many questions. Being from out of state I'm mostly worried about him getting a roommate. He's not a party guy and he's pretty quiet. What is the best way to meet a potential roommate? Where would you suggest him staying in his Freshman year since it sounds like Rutledge isn't the answer? Lots more questions forthcoming.

    • @katieblake
      @katieblake  Před 3 lety

      Hi! Thanks for watching!! I would suggest trying to match with someone online first also Being as honest as possible on any roommate form. A lot of the big dorms are very similar in terms of how you live. I would take into account distance from campus, suite style or hall...stuff like that. I truly believe most of your experience stems from the people you live around or with. Facebook groups for his incoming class or Instagram pages will be a place to start! Hope this helps

    • @katieblake
      @katieblake  Před 3 lety +2

      I’m so glad! It’s honestly a great school especially if you are considering arts management. There are so many cool internship opportunities, class field trips, speakers etc. (lol pre-Covid but hopefully things will go back to normal) my best advice for making friends is to connect with people online before hand. I actually have a couple videos where I talk about this. I wish I chose my roommates before hand and talked to people online first. However I did meet one of my best friends in my suite! I don’t recommend random roommate situations. Haha I’ve been burned. I think it’s different for everyone and honestly at any school you run into the same stuff

    Hii! CofC is my top school right now and I just have a couple questions! Would you recommend bringing a car first year and keeping it off campus for beach/weekend trips or no? Also, what dorm in your opinion would be best for someone that loves a social scene but doesn't want the residence hall to be trashed and such, with a good location too! (I've heard liberty is good for that but I just want a second opinion!) Thank you so much for this helpful video!

    • @katieblake
      @katieblake  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi! Yeah honestly if I could go back and do it again I would probably choose liberty. It seems like a really social dorm but I never heard any crazy party stories about it. It’s in a PRIME location 👍 for the car thing: I would recommend you look at how much parking is going to cost v. You just ubering places because parking spots are ridiculously expensive. It’s really just a personal choice depending on how often you would want to Uber

    Hi! Thank you so so so much for making this video! I am going to CoC this fall (I just haven't officially committed yet lol) but I have a couple follow up questions. So which dorms do you think are more freshmen heavy, social, but not super party-y? I liked the info you gave on Liberty but do you know any additional stuff on College Lodge or Berry? (looking on the website, everything sounds similar) Also, what meal plan do you recommend for someone who has a more restricted diet (I'm gluten and dairy free), especially bc you didn't love the dorm food? What are some food related things I should invest in/spend my money on? Okay ahhh sorry that was a lot but thank you so much!!!

    • @katieblake
      @katieblake  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for your comment!! :) okay so for dorms I would say they are all pretty freshman heavy but most have a mix of some sophomores. you will find parties at every single dorm it’s pretty Much unavoidable so I would buy a fan for white noise and maybe some earplugs 🥲 that’s what I did. I had the lowest meal plan and I still never used all of my swipes for the week. The Harris teeter is a good 15-20 minute walk from campus but it’s a good option for stocking up on food. Marty’s place does vegetarian kosher and vegan meals but I don’t know if they also do gluten free. I went there all the time. Also with your swipes in the other halls you can pick up fruit and other stuff to eat later. the dining halls can have funny schedules for the weekend so you definitely have to get creative off the bat.

    • @katieblake
      @katieblake  Před 3 lety +1

      Oh also I’ve been into the college lodge it’s definitely one of the older dorms but I know people who absolutely loved living there. Berry is a pretty standard dorm for freshman! I know that a lot of the honors college students get placed in berry along with sophomores. But again it’s a good mix of grades in every dorm

    • @katieblake
      @katieblake  Před 3 lety

      I’m not sure anymore to be quite honest. I had a pretty high gpa but my test scores were more middle of the road. I was not great at standardized tests! I am also an out of stater so I don’t know what the difference is between in state and out of state competition. I also applied early decision because I just knew I wanted to go to CofC. That’s always a good option if you are looking for an extra boost. It shows that you really want to go there. But I think if you work hard on your application you can do it!! :)

    • @katieblake
      @katieblake  Před 3 lety +2

      It definitely depends! A lot of people go crazy on the weekends and party but a lot do not. I would say the school is very inclusive in my experience and leans a bit more liberal. I grew up in dc so to be quite honest I’m VERY liberal and I’ve run into the most conservative people ever in my life in Charleston 😂 but as far as inclusion most everyone that I’ve run into is inclusive or at least open to learning. I also stay in the arts school so 🤷‍♀️
