Mark Knopfler’s new special recording of his anthemic ‘Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)’, produced by his longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher (who has edited the contributions into a 9 minute piece), features an unprecedented line-up of some of the greatest guitarists in history. ‘Legendary’ does not begin to cover it - David Gilmour to Ronnie Wood, Slash to Eric Clapton, Sting to Joan Armatrading, Bruce Springsteen to Pete Townshend, Nile Rodgers to Joan Jett, Brian May to Tony Iommi, Joe Walsh, Sam Fender and many more jaw dropping names. And, in a great honour, the track opens with Jeff Beck’s final recording.
Roger Daltrey, Teenage Cancer Trust’s Honorary Patron and co-founder of Teen Cancer America (with Pete Townshend), added harmonica, and Beatles icon Ringo Starr is on drums along with his son Zak Starkey, their two drum tracks switching from one to the other, revealing an unmistakable family style. Sting completes an extraordinary rhythm section on bass. With artwork designed by Sir Peter Blake (The Beatles, The Who, Band Aid, Paul Weller etc), this release is a landmark in rock music history.
Full list of contributors: Joan Armatrading, Jeff Beck, Richard Bennett, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Brown, James Burton, Jonathan Cain, Paul Carrack, Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, Jim Cox, Steve Cropper, Sheryl Crow, Danny Cummings, Roger Daltrey, Duane Eddy, Sam Fender, Guy Fletcher, Peter Frampton, Audley Freed, Vince Gill, David Gilmour, Buddy Guy, Keiji Haino, Tony Iommi, Joan Jett, John Jorgenson, Mark Knopfler, Sonny Landreth, Albert Lee, Greg Leisz, Alex Lifeson, Steve Lukather, Phil Manzanera, Dave Mason, Hank Marvin, Brian May, Robbie McIntosh, John McLaughlin, Tom Morello, Rick Nielsen, Orianthi, Brad Paisley, Nile Rodgers, Mike Rutherford, Joe Satriani, John Sebastian, Connor Selby, Slash, Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr and Zak Starkey, Sting, Andy Taylor, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Ian Thomas, Pete Townshend, Keith Urban, Steve Vai, Waddy Wachtel, Joe Louis Walker, Joe Walsh, Ronnie Wood, Glenn Worf, Zucchero.

Cancer kills more teenagers and young adults in the UK than any other disease. For those who survive, going through it without the right support can be devastating - physically and emotionally. Cancer is different when you are younger: It can be harder to get a diagnosis, cancer treatments can be less effective for young people, and accessing clinical trials can be harder. Teenage Cancer Trust funds specialist nurses and youth workers to be there for a young person when cancer has turned their world upside down and to help make sure cancer doesn’t rob young people of the best years of their life.

Not just as recognition for the good work, but then also more people will be able to find it.
Brilliant piece of work, big thanks, you are a superstar.
Fantastic, an anyone produce it in time elapse order?
hard work, really! Congrats 👍🏻👍🏻
😊
Guy Fletcher deserves a Knighthood for mixing that with all those parts👏👏
Totally agree!
It would have taken forever to reign in the orchestra of guitarist
I agree. ♥️ o ♥️
no kidding
I'm amazed... First listen with no names was slightly overwhelming this second listening with the names makes me appreciate the mix
Thanks to Mark for getting Jeff Beck's final recorded performance on such a great tune.
really ?
Yes indeed to kick off the playing.
😢😢😢😢❤
He passed on my birthday. I feel blessed to be able to hear this.
And the same with Duane Eddy!
David Gilmour plays two notes and instantly you know it's him...he's my (local) hero !
Not to mention Hank Marvin!
He is my ultimate guitarist, nobody can play the way he does, even with his equipment.
He high notes are both ethereal and cathartic for me and have gotten me through good times and bad.
Also Tom Morello.
Same i love him
i instantly heard the very same thing without the video. That was a religious experience.
This is how the jams in Heaven gonna sound like ....
I thought Christians always said the guitar and rock music is the instrument of the devil ?
So these guys will be in hell with me.
Well, I think they will be a lot more "Majestic" . . if you can even imagine it!
That is provided that these Earthly minstrels are covered by the blood of the Lamb,
But it will be truly beyond anything we have ever experienced in the music realm.
❤❤❤ I'll be there soon I wish I could let you know.

Good title for song
My eldest son is going through chemo for lymphoma, and I have seen firsthand what a difference TCT makes to the treatment process in the ward at the hospital (Hogarth ward, Nottingham City). It makes the whole experience just a bit more manageable, and the TCT support workers are amazing.
This track just blew me away, now seeing the video with the names, completes it. What an absolute masterpiece, I bought the vinyl, and will be playing this for a long time to come. Legends. Thank you ⭐️
Best wishes for you and your son from Newcastle! 🎉
Good luck to you and your son.
I wish your son all the best. I was diagnosed with cancer in '22 but thanks to a removal of the tumour and a cholostomy I'm cancer free today. I'm thankful for every day I'm on this planet
Best wishes for your son ❤❤..stay strong
Prayers for your son. May he be well soon. God bless your son, you & your family. It is so special how this beautiful music makes a difference in your sons life. It surely brings joy to the inner soul & spirit. 🙏🏻🎶💓🙏🏻
I have cancer - I am in His Majesty's Forces - my beautiful daughter has Down's syndrome. Mark Knopfler has transformed our lives - his music from Dire Straits to now is genius. He is humble, authentic and unbelievably talented. I have an MBE - he deserves so much more for what he has done compared to me! An indescribable genius who is primus inter pares. Thank you Mark.
So nice words- wishing you the best for you and your daughter ❤❤❤❤
Thank you, for your meritorious service. I recently bought Brothers In Arms on vinyl from a record fair, an immaculate 1985 pressing. Certainly a most prized-possession - but no match for an MBE! Mark Knopfler truly is a genius, a King amongst men - a great talent with a great big heart. Wishing you all the best for your treatment & full recovery - your beautiful daughter will get you through. I have no doubt of the power of her hugs & her smiles. Keep on keeping on.
We are all God´s children. Be blessed brother. You and your family. Love from Sweden.

Bravo Andy :) upload your copy version please
I bought my digital copy, couldn't afford the vinyl and I don't think they would ship to Brazil
Sent to all my relatives to buy a copy as well
I actually have a record store in my hometown. I don't download so I bought a CD copy.
I need to stop crying! This is the most beautiful peace of music I have ever heard! What an amazing clip! Thank you Mark Knopfler and Guy Fletcher.
Totally agree. Heard this played at St James’s Park against my team, Wolves. Tears were streaming down my face, it was that moving. Must have been the only one crying in a crowd of 52000!
yes, yes,yes😍
This is my favourite version of *"Going Home".*
Will guide me when i‘m going home⚰️🎚️🪦
Feeling the power of this ethereal video and song. Nearly two years ago my husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and he quickly slipped away. And I was fortunate to know such a profound love in my life and so humbled to be at his side. During his illness, we turned to music and it became the final thing he could enjoy when he could do nothing else. I can't imagine his final months without the comfort of music. Now this morning I watched this video and the names of all these same musicians that brought us so much peace at the end appeared throughout the video and those names lined the tunnel and they flow in and out of the notes. This video gave me goosebumps and feels so spiritual. And I don't know how you were able to match the quality of the music with an equally surreal video, but it's perfection. I just want to thank everyone for bringing us so much enjoyment. You just have to close your eyes and listen to the beauty. As an aside, it's my birthday and this is such an uplifting start to my day. 🌹🎵🎶🌹🎼🌈🌹
reading your comment I got some tears in my eyes
Bless you and have a happy birthday!
Sir Brian May, you touch a string and your name doesn't even need to be there, the world knows it's you. Congratulations to everyone
Yep, one note and you know!
We'll never have this calibre of supreme guitarists playing together ever again.
An absolutely genius video presentation❣️❤️❤️❤️

You're damn right, awesome❤
There's a place you can go every time life is not as should be. You can call it home. But you can call it Mark Konpfler music and heart also. Thank you Mark. You will never know how important your music was when I was a lost kid, trying to find some clues about what was like to be a MAN. I am 48 now and my little son listens Why Worry every single night, since he was born. I am in tears.
❤
It shows us a class of musicians who will be missed when gone. I don't think it can be produced again.
I am 72 and he has been my guitar hero since dire straits days... I love him beyond measure I'm also a nurse❤ and I do my cancer patients free if I need to..if insurance or Medicare won't pay.
@@gloryland59true! The way modern music is we will never have guitar legends like this ever again! It makes me both happy and sad this song! Almost like a final goodbye
Only Mark Knopfler could have put together such near-to-perfection collaboration. Just sublime.

They need to release a DIRECTOR’S CUT!! 15-20 mins at least!!! Thank you Mark and Guy for this slice of history.
Very nice idea
Exactly my thoughts!
Jeff Beck just does something to the guitar that no one else can. That sound , musicality and expressiveness..
I own none of his recordings, except for a Yardbirds compilation, but I picked him out first time I heard this. So, that's a long-winded agreement from me.
Jeff is unique. My favourite guitarist EVER.
You should hear Beck’s work on the Roger Waters album Amused to Death. It’s incredible.
Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's is incredible. Masterclass in musicianship.
@@teemusid . . . none of us "own" any of his recordings . . they are "his" recordings, not ours. . . we just have the right to listen to them.
Hank and Ringo playing together! Who'd have thought it 60 years ago...???!!!
😂😂😂
Not very likely that they were playing together.
@@peterb.559 No, I realise that. It was just the fact that they are heard at the same time. A Beatle and a Shadow together.
@@user-un9go4qe5i you missed the Rolling Stone.
I am 78 and this is a walk down a great memory lane, these people made and make their instruments sing and talk! Thank you all!
9.40 minutes isn’t long enough. I just want to listen to these magicians play and play and play this song all day long. Rock’s greatest supergroup 🎶🎸🤘🏻
85 B-sides, maybe?
We need a directors cut😅 30 min.
Repeat - repeat - repeat ...
It can go on forever !!
I used to think the original version and then the live version wasn't long enough. Now I think that this version isn't long enough.
There are supergroups. There are festival ensembles. And then there's this: The ultimate who's-who of guitar legends, plus a full breakdown of who is playing at which point in the song. Thank you Mark. Thank you Jeff. Thanks to everybody who performed in the track. And a huge thank you to Guy for mixing a monumental piece of music together.
This is one of the coolest things I've ever heard and seen.
Its my life flashing in front of my face as a guitar player
yes definitiv 🎸🎸🎸
This is the we are the world of guitarists. How many billions of albums have been sold from the musicians in this song? Having this be the final recording of the legendary Jeff Beck. What a way to go out!!!
Good Catch! 😉
Ringo Star ; Nile Rodgers; Brian May, Ronnie Wood; David Gilmour; Joe Walsh, The Boss himself and on and on.... 😀
@@mdiarra2 My first guitar hero was Mark. Remember seeing Money for nothing video when it first came out I was 5 and it blew my mind what is that sound and how is he making that wonderful sound. Been obsessed with the electric guitar and music since then. So glad Tony Iommi was a part of this. My two favorite bands are Black Sabbath Ozzy and Dio era. And The Who. Hell and Heaven to me lol

You bet! Very emotional throughout!
Immediate tears. Involuntary. I didn’t even have to blink.

When all our rock 'n roll heroes have left us, I imagine this is what 'The Great Gig in the Sky' would sound like! Wishing all those who have lost loved ones to cancer, love and peace. We will all go home someday. And to the survivors who chose to live instead of waiting to die! I hope this track gets billions and billions of views!! Music has the power to change the world, one heart at a time 🌎
PS: This track will live on forever....What an era the 60s, 70s, and 80s were for epic rock 'n roll, so blessed to have all these heroes.
you know your living in the right time when your local hero still manages to pull off beautiful things like this. thank you mark knopfler, for everything you have given me.
Loved the little homage highlighting Jeff's screaming guitar to open the tune. Would be a perfect fit anyway, but in context it's indescribable.
What Heaven will sound like.
My wife is on her +41 after BMT. She spent 10 days in I.C.U from side effects from chemotherapy. I thought I would lose her. She got out of Mayo Clinic Hospital Easter Subday. I heard this for the first time. With all of my guitars, heroes on this . Jeff Beck who to me is the best. Fills my heart and hope for my wife to get better.
I pray your wife gets better soon. ❤

Yes!
Inspired by this divine session, I made a donation to the German children's cancer charity. I think we shouldn't forget, what these guitars heroes came together for this song. If everyone who hears this, makes a small donation for children with cancer in their country, this work will be even greater than it already is musically.
Yes yes yes yes
Finally we can see who is playing! What a masterpiece!!❤
Unmistakable Ry Cooder. Holy cow, there's so many gathered here! Jeff Beck's intro can make me cry. It shows the genius of Mark the maistro.
Unbelievable. Song means so much as a Newcastle fan as well, hearing it when the Black and White stripes come onto St James Park is one of my favourite things ever. Now with Mark redoing it for such a great cause and these unbelievable musicians taking part. Its unreal. Theres a few more I would have loved to have had on it, Nuno Bettencourt and Richie Sambora to name but a few. But its just mesmerising. Can't stop listening to it.
That is without exception one of the most beautiful and inspiring creations of music and accompanying video that I have seen in my 66 years and certainly one of the best ever produced!
It should go viral and make a lot of money for those teen cancer patients and it must certainly garner many music and video awards in the coming year, especially for that superb editing!
I also see that I have a lot of artists I really haven't delved into enough in the past to investigate more. On a personal note, David Gilmour rules :)
And ending on a very sad note, we all love and sorely miss you Jeck Beck. Your last mastering of that guitar had me in tears with so many great memories, including when I saw you in 76 :(
Das ist so GIGANTISCH, ICH KANN ES NICHT BESCHREIBEN ICH KANN ES NUR FÜHLEN .
DANKE EUCH ALLEN 🙏💕🥀💕
Stimmt !!!
Congratulations to Mark Knopfler and everyone who participated in this act of love, kindness, empathy and solidarity. The most beautiful thing I've heard in a long time... ❤🎶🎵
Having listened to this many times, I can only describe this as a celebration.
First, a celebration of the art of playing guitar, obviously. I cannot fathom anyone who loves guitar not being absolutely moved by this.
A celebration of skilled production. I know of no better example. Taking input from over 50 guitarists recording parts all over the world at different times and with different equipment, and bringing it together and making it sound this cohesive and not the musical equivalent of a 20 car pile up is nothing short of extraordinary. Guy and anyone else involved, take a bow. Nothing short of a master class.
And finally, it's a celebration of this wonderful song. So simple (even a guitar pleb like me can play it) and yet still so powerful, and so evocative. It's called "Going Home" because this is exactly what that sounds like and feels like. I hope Mark understands how much this song truly means to so many people across the world, and how much obvious respect he and this song command when 60 legends said yes to be involved in this project. I can think of no better testament to his talent and legacy than that.
❤❤❤
This is a "Once in a Lifetime" event! Well done Mark!
An incredible group of people. I'd love just to sit in a room with them and just hear them talk about one another. Bruce Springsteen is my fav but really I love all of their music. This might be the last stand of true rock and roll and we might've not realised it.

Now that’s epic! Orianthi caught me by surprise, I thought that was Clapton. Just incredible. Thanks Guy Fletcher for putting this masterpiece together.
Caught me out too! Same mistake ……
Orianthi has been my find on this. Was listening to her yesterday and she rips some solos. I also love Joan Armatrading section. You think Bonamassa has taken you to the top of the him and she’s like ‘hold my beer’
I thought it was Lukather
Anche io stupito positivamente da Orianthi. Stesso stile di Clapton..andrò ad approfondire perché è molto melodica 😉
This will go down as the greatest colab ever. Mark, thank you. You will always be an inspiration for generations to come, and will always be one of the most loved humans. To bring this group together, is not only a fitting tribute to how much these amazing artists care, but also to how much they and we love you. God bless you, and my biggest wish would be to one day get to jam out with you. Thank you also for inspiring me to take up guitar seriously.

Jeff Beck is often called the Guitarists Guitar hero, and here he is next to a huge amount of the most important, seminal and influential guitarists to ever pick up the instrument and his playing still sounds in a class of it's own. Hearing so many incredible musicians together is stunning. This is a monumental achievement and I hope does amazing things for the cause.
Kudos to Electric Theatre Collective who made the visualizer video to go along with this amazing music. Very well done!!
Loved this tune ever since I first saw this in a Dire Straits concert video of the mid 80’s, I think it was live in Wembley when Hank Marvin, another of my old guitar favourites joined the band. Just having Bruce Springsteen and Mark Knopfler on the same record would have made my day. But then to add to these two, Dave Gilmore, Steve Vai, Morello, Hank Marvin, Clapton , Jeff Beck and all the others is just insane something I could not have dreamt in my wildest dreams.
My eyes are watering. This is larger than life.
As a Wolves fan, I feel so privileged to have heard this played at St James Park for the 1st time, and saw Mark Knopfler on the pitch. The fact my team lost 3-0 meant nothing!
So many questions answered!!
Would never have picked up Tony Iommi’s stints - really understated and gorgeous.
He was one of the few I knew immediately, glad years of listening to Sabbath has paid off :)
Man, that is amazing. And loads of credits to Guy Fletcher who turned all these incredible parts into one masterpiece!
Words fail me. All I have is to say thank you to Mark and Guy for this from the bottom of my heart, and all those who contributed to this. The most incredible work of art.
I knew the opening was Jeff Beck. Thank you MK not only for putting together this awesome version of your great tune, but for honoring the great JB in this way.
This is like the Sistine Chapel of music production for the engineer.
So many beautiful Clapton-esque licks and fills from ….. ORIANTHI !!! I never knew - but that girl has soul !!!!!!
One word “Wow”!!! Never has so much talent been coordinated into a single song.
This is a masterpiece. 🎸
No words can describe the feeling of listening to this 10 min piece while reading all those names popping up in the video. It is truly amazing. Maybe the most significant musical release of this century.
This is what we were waiting for!! Thank you Mark Knopfler, Guy Fletcher and everyone involved.
This is my 4th watch, it just gets better each time.
Awestruck by Jeff’s contribution. Phenomenal work by everyone else that contributed, this is an amazing historical event for a great cause!
Well done you lot ,from a geordie lad. All the best for a great charity. Big hugs Mark & Co
Incredible! And not a mess, that’s the most extraordinary. So happy and sad altogether to listen to wizard Jeff Beck as the front-player.
For the guitar lovers, this is the heaven. Thanks to all.
This was one of the most beautiful tunes ever written and a tune that always takes me home. What Guy Fletcher has done is remarkable and sensitive. He's taken the absolute essence of every guitarist's contribution and made something so good I worry I'll never hear anything like it again.
To Mark, Guy and all the legends that contributed, thank you. Thanks for giving this to us and Teanage Cancer Trust.
Not much brings me to tears - this does.
One of the greatest ever tunes. Worthy of this incredible ensemble.
I can't stop playing this, truly special! And now we can put names to the parts. I love it how musicians can just come together and put all egos to one side to just create something truly special. An absolute galaxy of stars on this recording and I hope this raises millions for the causes.
Speechless.
And with the names.
This is a timeless piece of song. Simple and so complex. Rich and so catchy.
Thank you MK for all these years of music and thanks for all the musical geniuses who joined him.
So many long-time favourites and a few nice discoveries playing on this brilliant version of Mark Knopfler's majestic tune. Since no-one else seems to have mentioned it, I'd like to say thanks to Dave Mason for his gorgeous, shimmery contribution that instantly took me back 45 years.
One of the best musical pieces ever written! Thank you Mark from one Scot (who has traveled almost 2/3 of the planet) to another. Just something else that no one can ever replicate.
when your contacts list is the who's who of guitar heroes from the last 70 years! Great to hear a nice feature from Hank Marvin
The Jeff Beck intro really does a number on me. What an awesome collaboration. Thanks for bringing all these fantastic musicians together. It's history in the making. That's for sure.
One the most moving tracks I will ever hear in my whole life…..
The most beautiful music ever made 😊 also the theme tune to my father's funeral which makes it even more poinient and emotional to listen to 😢🤗
Guy Fletcher did a fantastic job.
Just something about this song, it was written so from the ❤. Just wow and God bless all those that are going through treatment.
Such a great tune. And an incredible line up to pay tribute to it. Some of the greatest to have ever picked up a six string. Can identify a lot of them by their style and sound. Struggling to find a superlative that says how incredibly amazing this is. That's 2 of many that can be used. And an amazing video to boot.
Thanks to Guy for this fantastic montage. A huge amount of work and a unique result.
Just goes to show how humble knopfler is, am i the only one to notice that after the intro section his name stops appearing, gets all these amazing people together for a good cause and then steps back and lets them do their thing 🫡
Class act, but it's not an act. TUVM Mr.K & company ,🌹
Do you know how lucky we all are to have heard these amazing artists come together for an incredible cause? Think about it, all of these incredible masters of their instruments playing together and we are so lucky! 2024 to hear them play! Mark Knopfler you are a genius! You are amazing! Thank you for pulling all of these amazing talented musicians to do this song for a great cause!!!! And thank you to all the musicians, studio personnel, video, sound , down to the last person who had to turn the lights off.
Good Morning!! Best 10 minutes of my day❤🎉 Thank You All❤
The seamless flow of music between Peter Frampton and Sash is epic!

Guitar-Hall-Of-Fame version!!!
Guy Fletcher wow what a mix that is trulley stunning
Brian may, Toni iommi, this is music my friends
This is just amazing!! I can't conceive how hard it was to put this together!! This is literally 90 percent of my favorite guitar players on one record plus the talented Starkey drummers!! A once in a lifetime recording. Jeff Beck RIP!!!!!
Clapton's initial acoustic work was really good and provided a buildup for everything to come
Gilmour sounds so good. Ringo and Zak though... so awesome.
This is iconic!! 🙌🏻🎸🙆🏻♀️
What a truly landmark recording.
Amazing!
Now I see that I got some names right, besides Mark Knopfler (of course). I would love to see these giants playing together live.
I got Knopfler, Beck, Gilmour and Bonamassa right. You?
@@shaisameri Beck, Knopfler, Gilmour, Clapton, Townshend, Marvin, May, Morello and Satriani. And also Guy Fletcher, Sting, Roger Daltrey, Ringo Starr and Zak Starkey, with help from the information that was previously made available.
