Iowa History 101: The Tri-States' Ballrooms & Bands

Join the State Historical Society of Iowa for an online learning series that focuses on the past lives of Iowans. In this week's webinar, titled The Tri-States' Ballrooms & Bands, Mike Day, of the Dubuque Telegraph Herald, shared the backstories of ballrooms in northeast Iowa, and a few from across the river. He also shared profiles of some of the area's most popular bands during that era. Older Iowans often speak wistfully of the time when they waltzed, two-stepped or bunny hopped across a dance hall floor. Many met their future spouses there. From the age of jazz to the dawn of disco, these venues served as gathering places for generations.
