Snuffy Smif Not really. I've read that the fence has been knocked down two or three times by the landing gear. In fact, I believe that fence has been designed to break away if the gear hits it.
John Combs It also included the one from the hurricane. Back then, there was an hurricane at St Maarten. Yet, the warning sign was knocked down after getting blown over by strong winds.
That shit doesn't bother the pilots.......at all! Trust me. Been an aircraft mechanic for over 35yrs years and have known a few pilots and heard some stories. Most of them are batshit crazy!
This is an usually LOW landing, even for KLM. I think it touched the ground before the "piano key" marks on the landing track (usually not good). Simply crazy. Goes into my faves.
@@players_aviation holy moly how the world has changed- I was 16 and am now 23 year old CFI, still the same old plane nerd :) thank you for the kind wishes, friend 🫡
I have watched these planes come in while vacationing in St. Marteen. It's part of the show while you're there. There's a bar next to the end, by the water. Everyday they post the flight times of all the jets that are landing. I've seen people literally blown by the jet wash, down the hill, and almost into the water. It's a spectacular place to watch planes takeoff and land.
And on March 31st, 2020, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines retired the rest of their 747 fleet including their cargo 747F fleet. May you rest in peace Blue Queen of the Skies but for the other Queen of the Skies live long!!!
This clip is 100% real. I was there when that landing happened and watched it from the roof of one of the hotels in the background. I still can't believe how close he was to hitting the fence.
I love this airport, the runway is just so short that jumbos like the 744 literaly have to land right on the threshold! Making for an incredibly low approach!
This video is the real deal. I just flew into Princess Juliana airport in March 2009 and yes indeed it is as close as the video shows. Super smooooth landing. Our pilot on America Airlines did a stellar job of touching the 767 down with ease. We watched takesoffs and landing several times while awaiting our shuttle. No more posts about fake videos!
The airport has a particularly short runway that ends just 40 feet from beach, leaving large planes just barely enough room to land. So they have to come in low, directly over the beach, making it a prime destination for an afternoon of quiet, relaxing sunbathing.
I've watched this video many times, but always when I click "play again" I think to myself: OMG now it's going to destroy the wall or maybe touch the sea!
This is definitely not fake. I've been to the exact same spot in St. Maarten before. The planes are a good 20 feet over your head. It is truley AMAZING!
@b4rcelona I sure hope so. The pilot may have to abort the landing which can be done while you're above the decision speed (V1). For a 747 that is about 140kts (depends on weather, weights, etc). Take into account that at the other end of the runway there's a mountain, you have to decide to fully land or go around the moment you reach the tarmac. And unlike in a a simulator at the airline you cannot restart..
Was just there- last week- and IMHO just posted a Better video.!!! 747-400 "RIGHT OVERHEAD".! almost hit me.! JESUS. what a trip.!! SXM & Maho Beach→ will never go away.! EXCELLENT !
@Kingfish223 No theyre not allowed to land there. airbus a380 may have shorter landing distance than the 747, but its take more taxiway etc. and because of safety reasons it need longer runway..
15 years later, and this is still crazy.
That has to be the lowest landing yet!!

I love how you can see the pressure wave on the water at 0:20!!
That has to be heart stopping for the pilot (and everyone else around)

@@mackydog99 thanks for the reply, strange to see a reply to a comment i made 9 years ago, but love it.
Holy crap, that's crazy!!
Coming in for landing... pilot says to co-pilot "Here, hold my beer and watch this !"
The craziest video I've ever seen on CZcams!
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

I want to be standing there when a A380 lands WOW!
This comment aged well. 😂
If and when some hopefully return
That would be bad ass
This Asphalt runway is 7500 feet long
*airbus a380 needs 10000 feet long runways*
@@rajnirvan3336 They never had an a380 at st Maarten
So sad the KLM 744's last flight into SXM will be tomorrow :(
It's been 7 years since you commented this, I hope you are going good

Wow, thats so cool to watch! I guess they have to land that quick since the runway is so short!
This doesn't seem safe!
No body has ever crashed yet
Technically, somebody did. The pilot tried to land in TNCM but had to go around like 3 times and eventually ran out of fuel and ditched.
Henry Chan Wht flight number?
That has nothing to do with the airport though.

Okinowa1945 deserves a medal. Cheered my dark day.
Clearly not fake. Just good skills from the pilot, at one of the world's best spots for plane-spotters! Must be amazing to watch the big jets fly in.
he was low
AMAZING!!
gotta love that engine noise, its frightening
I feel this the same
spot on, i've been there too and none were NEAR as close as this guy.

I would not want to be somebody flying for the first tome on that plane! God bless!
whoever piloted that plane is a beast
holy crap!!! now thats crazy i'd love to go there
That's great city planning for you.
wow it really puts into perspective how massive the 747 is
Skilled pilot trained to them stuff. Awesome. (this may seem a little to late to post a comment).
