They need to make it where the push notification gives you the name and phone number of the airtag owner.
That can lead to confrontation, pass the item to let LEO and they can get the Air Tag owner's info from Apple for criminal action if warranted.

I’ve had 2 devices on my Bluetooth for ever… I can’t disconnect or forget as the option not there. Have no idea what they are and after being tracked, stalked I hoped it was this but I’ve never had any notifications. Ugh. Going to look over my car 😑
You can easily do an Internet search for whatever shows up connected to your Bluetooth.

If you find an airtag that's following you, let's hope you can find it. If you do, drive away from your home, maybe 5 miles. Then remove and reinstall the battery FIVE times. That resets the airtag to factory default as it was when first purchased. Now you can link the airtag to your iPhone/iPad and use it as your own. The previous owner will no longer be connected to that airtag. The reason you want to drive 5 miles away from your home is so that it's last known position to the owner is not in your driveway. Since there's no history tracking, the previous owner may or may not have learned where you live unless they did a search at the right time when you were home.
My god there is always a way for the bad guys to catch up 😒
So if the person stealing your property with an Airtag planted on it, do they get a message saying there's an Airtag present and if so, what's the point of using an Airtag then if the thief can detect it and remove it? I was about to buy a pack of four but now I know the thieves can detect it, I would be no better off. What a great idea that has just been turned to crap.

I actually got stalked by gang members to my house from my job! I hate this product it’s dangerous! My family said if something happens to me they will sue Apple! I didn’t know they put it under my work van

They need to make the speaker un removable. People removing the speaker and can still track so now if you get a notification and try to play a sound to find it no sound comes from it

Why would you turn off your Bluetooth, if that's what alerts you one is near by?
because it works by bluetooth, so turning yours off won't let it work, however other bluetooth devices nearby could make it work. Overall, it's garbage. They don't work well at all. No history, doesn't update often enough either.
Also if u leave by yourself check your stuff when u come inside your home or apartment.
So much advice for stalkers in this video… if someone wanted to come up with more places to hide a tracker on someone, for example, they should just watch this video… these kinds of stories are double edged swords

I pull my car up in the front yard on its pad but I also have a 6 foot fence around my property and my garage gate has a lock on it I also use a car cover and I keep my car locked.
I had that notification one night when I was leaving work. I had just bought a new car too. Right around the corner. I was a bit nervous about that one.
Way to go Apple. They better be ready for a $bil in law suites by helping the criminals.

But how many are multi billion dollar private companies that should have had the money to do the r&d that should have spit out this possible outcome? The problem with any tracking device is that the advantages of these devices to legitimate owners are also advantages to criminals. Seems like there's a one way communication link from the AirTag to your iPhone/iPad. What if you could disable the AirTag (put it into standby mode) until your item is lost or stolen. Then activate it. That won't stop stalkers but it will prevent the thief from being notified that they are being trracked until you turn it on.

Maybe they register the airtag to a certain name, so if it used maliciously it can be tracked back to the owner.
I have been wanting to place an airtag on to my motorcycle just so I know if it gets stolen. But now, if its can give alerts to the thief that an airtag is following him, it kinda defeats the purpose. Any suggestion on what I should do?
You can easily remove the speaker inside the air tag, yes that person will still get notified that their is an air tag near them, but without the speaker it will be difficult to find it if that person hide it very well
What if you have an Android phone and you have an AirTag in your car will it still notify you? Otherwise that is going to open up Litigation for lawsuits towards apple.
What if someone uses this on you and you have a Droid phone?? I wouldnt get the notification.

So thieves can make sure it's safe to break in your home while you're gone, that stalker who's been wanting you since high school can easily locate your residence to do some unwanted advances to you, a crazy ex that tells you that you're his till death due y'all apart, literally since he tracked you down without your knowing, and now that restraining order is pointless, or a crazed rapist comes by to, offer some free services, forcefully. Well, it's true!
I use this for my kid. But I guess if she is kidnapped apple will notify the kidnapper that he is being tracked. Great idea...
Yea, If someone steals my guitar they can just run a tracker on it and remove the tag.. If the device beeps, they'll remove it. Tags are a great idea, but anything can be misused.

So if I put an Airtag in my tool bag, wallet, back pack, etc., its going to notify the thief that they're being tracked. They will find it, toss it, and I'll never get by stuff back. What good is it other than to find your own stuff that you misplaced? Worthless waste of money. How many people are being stalked vs people having their property recovered? 1 in 100? 1 in 500?

Some may like this device or not but it’s economically cheap & resourceful for parents or for personal use. Doesn’t necessarily mean. It’s for stalking on people, but more so on protecting your items from being taken away from others. we live in crucial times. Unfortunately I’ve been a victim of multiple car invasions and it’s very tiring to having to think that one day your car will go missing. It has helped me track down where I misplaced keys, track of where my kids whereabouts again some kids are very open to sharing locations others aren’t so that keeps a piece of mind when needed .. I don’t see why people are so bothered about this sort of thing .. I understand most see this device as a terrible thing but I see it as a good way of making sure I know where things and my family is at.. stay blessed
oke.. one question.. if somebody stole your bag.. and inside bag is airpod.. and you with your iphone detect that airpod, you can deactivate, and take bag ?

This is a lucky case. I’ve had my best friends dog (Tag on collar) for 2 months now, have yet to receive a notification. I only realized it was there when it started beeping on a walk a week after he had been with me, which was only because it was so far from him.

How do you get a notification if you don't use a cell phone? The sound the tracker makes can be muffled with layers of tape. And if your not familiar with Air Tags you would not know what the beep sound was or even what the tag itself was for.
I don't have an iPhone, but I do hae an iPad. For me to track my AirTag, I need a wifi connection as a minimum to find my AirTag. At least that's how it works with my set up. Bluetooth helps me get a closer fix to my AirTag.

Can they tell if there is a non Apple tag/tile one's vehicle? If I understand it, there are other brands out there also. What about if someone has your phone number, can someone track you through your phone without you knowing? If so, one step forward, 2 steps back in the world of tech.

I was about to purchase one because we’ve had a lot of stolen cars in this area. Someone said they were able to help the police find their car because they hid an AirTag in the car. I guess I won’t get one now if it’s going to notify the criminal that I have one in my car and then they could just throw it out the window.

Well if I was going to put a AirTag on somebody surreptitiously I’m going to remove this speaker first thing, so making it beep louder or whatever is not gonna help at all, the warnings have to come through the devices to the people that are near where these tags are

Someone stole my airtag. They eventually go the battery out of it. Next time I get an airtag I will get a case that can’t be opened. Better yet it would be nice if you could put an airtag case that would be sent to the police when an airtag is stolen.

That makes no sense. He said turn off bluetooth and location services on your phone. It's not tracking your phone it's tracking the location of the airtag, what was he talking about?

I think they are great we have them in all our vehicles, cheaper than dedicated trackers. If some lowlife steals one, then we can track them. They are hidden, so they will not find them before we send the cops round.

I was going into Jews and I found one going into the store with black tape which I suspect it may of been taped to the bottom of a persons shoe. I did not see how to find the owner of it. I just left it at Jewels
