Difference between this and past trackers is Apple made this one talk to others devices to let them know they are being tracked. Question is how many people are being tracked with devices that aren’t telling you it’s tracking you. Apple just makes it obvious you’re being tracked without your knowledge

This is just one of a long line of them, before that there was Tile, and if I recall there were other types of trackers. I thought those were extremely useful to put on keychains so you could find the lost keys, or in another case, just knowing where your kid is. It's not all nefarious. In my opinion, it's a great way to keep your kid protected; if someone does try to take them, as long as they have their keys or whatever these devices are attached to, they can be recovered unharmed. A bad buy will know to throw away a cell phone, everyone knows those can track, but will they know about these little button-shaped things?

If they have an iphone 12 or later they can find the precise location of the airtag. your typical shop won't know this unless they take the simple step of researching it and finding someone with a 12 pro or 13 pro to help locate it. Maybe the best bet is to take the car to an apple store and an apple employee with one of those devices can help you find it. You can also deactivate the airtag from your phone and when found remove the battery. Apple can trace the airtag to the apple id it belongs to and identify who has been tracking you and take steps to arrest them if it's a crime to do so in the area where the airtag was found.

If the technology can be made to be smart enough to detect when it's with someone it's not supposed to be with, couldn't they also design it so that it automatically turns off tracking in those situations? Apple bears some responsibility here if people are hurt from this.

Well the supposedly "correct" way to use this tech is to put it inside your suitcase, in your car, so that if your stuff is stolen then "you" can track it. Your proposed solution allows the Thief's iPhone to turn off the tracker. (As such your AirTag would be useless in trying to recover your stolen item.)

This from Apple February 10, 2022 :We have been actively working with law enforcement on all AirTag-related requests we’ve received. Based on our knowledge and on discussions with law enforcement, incidents of AirTag misuse are rare; however, each instance is one too many.
Every AirTag has a unique serial number, and paired AirTags are associated with an Apple ID. Apple can provide the paired account details in response to a subpoena or valid request from law enforcement. We have successfully partnered with them on cases where information we provided has been used to trace an AirTag back to the perpetrator, who was then apprehended and charged.

@@catman8965 I don't want to be a victim of this, no. But my point is, and maybe you missed it, is that we are all essentially carrying tracking devices. Apple is merely saying that they can protect you from their own tracking devices (I doubt they will make you pay for it, or if they are, I doubt they will do it for long as that is bad public relations) - but let's be fair - Apple at least notifies a person whether one of their own devices is tracking you. I'm pretty sure that if Google or Samsung put out a tracking device, Apple may not be able to notify a person of an unknown device they didn't make. You are trying to make one company responsible for every other company's devices? I feel like you, yourself, have missed the point. Apple really didn’t think the dangers of this product through at all. Knowing there’s a device on your person and being altered is great but if you can’t find it, waiting for the battery to die is not a solution. Android devices the problem only gets worse. Most people, especially older people don’t even know what airtags are, let alone know they need a separate app to detect one, and even then running it manually is not a solution, unless you plan on running it 5 times a day, to then not find it, to then wait a year for it’s battery to die. Sorry Apple, you failed dangerously on this one. This is a dream product for the criminal and the deranged.

What if an item of yours gets stolen and it alerts the thief that they are being tracked, this will surely enable the thief to look for the hidden tag and disable it somewhere away from their home and so they won’t get caught with your stolen property. Defeats the purpose don’t you think ?

The only catch is if they are used the way Apple intended them to be used, disabling them will stop genuine users from being able to locate and recover their mislaid property.

turning the device on and off?
@apple if you are watching this please add a means that once the air tag is activated and is being monitored it is permanently activated.
so once you lose your keys for example and once you start the device to find your lost keys it stays on and you have to remove the battery and buy a new air tag.
that will prevent stalking by making it once the stalker starts the tracker it can not be turned off.
or once you find your keys you hit the found option and the device permanently disables so you have to buy a new one .
so if the stalker turns off the device like in this case then he permanently lose the ability to track until he buys a new air tag and plants it again by which point the victim is long gone.

Because it's relatively cheap and reliable compared to other trackers. You could do this with Tile, but their network was small. Traditional GPS trackers either require you to retrieve them to download location history, get a separate device to track its location, and/or pay an additional monthly fee to have it report its location to you.
With Apple Airtags, you buy it, link it to your account, and it uses nearby iPhones to report its location at no additional cost.

    • @aidenalamo6262
      @aidenalamo6262 Před 2 lety

@Ops Blac There are magnets in airtags and double sided tape can also keep it in place. Its a very violent and desperate world when people use this method to follow people for no reason what so ever. If law enforcement used this method, they better have a valid reason for doing so. Kindest Regards, Aiden Alamo
