I've been to two of Tina's concerts; the first was in Woburn Abbey & the last was at Wembley Arena. Seriously, she is the best entertainer I have ever seen. ❤

I think the one at Wembley was the best one from what i have seen. It was to be her last concert and also the arena was scheduled to be demolished afterwards so it was the finale for both.

I’m glad I watched this interview b4 I watched the doc. I’m hoping that her past with Ike is not dwelled on & that her solo career is more featured with her iconic concerts and her happiness with Erwin. ❤ She endured & conquered and is the Queen of Rock & Roll! Now she is gone but she will forever be alive in our hearts with her music.

I really wish it had been screened with an audience of Tina fans to get their reaction. For me, it was very well produced production but as a Tina fan I was very disappointed in what wasnt included. Her first taste of freedom professionally was filming "Tommy". There is no mention of her being in that film. How about "Mad Max" and shaving her head for the role? I know there had to be more Bob Gruen film(s) that we havent seen during the Ike & Tina days. How about the outtake footage from "Gimme Shelter"? Getting the standing ovation at the Grammys in 1984 I think it was. Her turning down "The Color Purple" and the reason why. In my opinion, the Tina documentary "The Girl From Nutbush" was better.

What I have always wanted to be asked of Tina is about her love to be on stage and thrill the audiences. She gave it her all and then some (which I think led to her late life health problems). What was it that she could forget her difficult circumstances and perform her best. Was it her love of music, singing, dancing, and the joy of performing? What did she get out of it emotionally? Was it a way of feeling some kind of love in her early loveless life? Was it to prove her worth in a society that always knocked her down as a black woman and by Ike? Did the drive for success grow the more she was held back?

Let’s normalize giving *TINA* her flowers without mention of her ex ever again.
(you can go watch the movie or better yet read her 1st autobiography, “I, Tina” for that backstory.)
There is so much more to her Life, Legacy, Musicality, Artistry and Talent:
4.1 octaves of raw vocal power that could soulfully delivery just about any genre of music exceptionally. Throughout her career she covered more genres than most of her contemporaries with songs ranging from rock, blues, R&B, pop, country, gospel and even jazz in her collaboration with Herbie Hancock in 2007.
TINA accomplished many "firsts" for Women and Black people.
Here are a few actual facts about the legendary Artist:
-First Woman to be the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine
-First (and only) woman to have won
Grammys in the 3 most disputed categories: Rock, Pop and RnB. (only Michael Jackson also achieved this feat).
-She won 8 Grammys from 25 nominations. And, also received 3 Grammy Hall of Fame Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
-First (and only) Black woman to be inducted twice in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
-First woman to fill massive sports stadiums on nearly every continent. (North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia)
-First woman to fill the biggest football stadium in the world - the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
-In January 1988, She set a Guinness World Record for the 'largest paying concert attendance for a solo artist' by performing in front of more than 180,000 people at Maracana Stadium in Rio.
-First woman to break the record of selling more than 1 Million concert tickets in one tour - The 1987/1988 ‘Break Every Rule World Tour’ (4 million+ tickets were sold by the end of that tour, Outselling the Rolling Stones).
AND, She still holds the Guinness World record for selling more concert tickets than any other Solo Performer in History.
She was a pioneer and Originator in “Rock and Roll” music before it ever got that label. Then, She came back to Reclaim that genre for the Black artists who laid its foundation, at a time when the music industry’s gatekeeping of Rock music for white artists was blatant, leaving Rock & Roll predominately white. She ultimately reclaimed it all becoming The Queen of Rock & Roll.
“There's another story that can focus on Her brilliance, rather than her resilience; that can examine her skill rather than her survival; that can make her influence and impact primary and lke and abuse secondary; that can make her genius (and Tina Turner *IS* a genius, *not* an Ike Turner construct) foreground and the grief background. ~Son of Baldwin”

I'm responding here to a comment that was made that nobody would have heard of Tina if she had a perfect childhood & her marriage to Ike was bliss. First off Tina had success without much of the public knowing about her childhood and her marriage to Ike. Private Dancer was a huge success before the book I, Tina came out. Before most of us knew what kind of life she had previously. And to say if it wasn't for the neglect of her Mom and abuse from Ike we wouldn't know who she is, is absolutely repulsive and ridiculous!

This interview provided an intimate intricacies that extrapolates the many forms of making the documentary. The tone and ambiance they used, Ronda's archives and many other archives obtained elevated the film's genuineness. The story was complied with a good flow no matter how toil it may have felt. Tina being "unloved" ripped my heart apart but her resiliency lifted the trauma immediately.

I was disappointed that Tina's son Ronnie wasn't interviewed. I'd rather hear from him and some of the Ikettes than Oprah. There's so much more the producers could've revealed about Tina's life. They took the safe route. I was more interested in the unseen footage than the narrative they chose. They spent too much time on her personal life with Ike instead of her career. There is no mention of Tina's first acting role as the Acid Queen in Tommy.

Honestly I think her personal life with Ike is partially what motivated her so much to work extremely hard to escape. She HATED that “ugly” life as she called it. She despised living that way. She talks about it a lot in her autobiography. I think she hated Ike and tried her best to escape him and every ugly hardship she lived through.

    • @samrindge8042
      @samrindge8042 Před rokem +2

@@MiamiPush2theLimit Which book did you read? Her second book My Love Story isn't nearly as good as her first book I, Tina which was more personal and included contributions from her family and friends, including Ike. Tina said multiple times in her first book that she fell in love Ike. She even became best friends with his mistress Ann Thomas, who he later married. Tina said it took her years to realize that she would never be enough for him, no woman would. That's when she began to hate him. Hate comes from a place of hurt. Then when in her divorce petition she asked for alimony, child support, the house and half of everything. She definitely deserved it but Ike refused and that's when she settled for her stage name but she also kept her songwriting royalties, cars, jewelry and furs. I think she was resentful for many years because she worked hard and was loyal to him and he was making the divorce difficult. If he had made it easier they could've probably remained on friendly terms. Ike said in his book Takin' Back My Name that Tina made an offer to continue performing with him but she was tired of that lifestyle and wanted a divorce. He refused the offer but she said when she established herself as a solo act she'd perform with him again. I was skeptical until I saw a video of Tina in 1977 saying she and Ike were still friends and that she was open to working with him in the future.

Please understand that hardship in life is not necessarily bad. It creates character, especially in a person who is strong and talented as Tina was. Lets say if she was coddled by her mother and had that perfect marriage with house, kids and picket fence you would most likely never heard of her. So give credit where it’s due. What is seemingly bad can actually be a catalyst to being something, raising above the rest against all odds.

@@michaelwallacejr.1599 There was a report just after the documentary was released that her sons weren't asked to participate. The source said the documentary should've covered Tina's fractured relationship with her sons and how Zelma was more present as a grandmother. Ronnie should at least have been asked to participate. I don't think he'll make a fuss because he seems to avoid drama and he still receives money from a trust fund. He'll probably wait until she passes away before talking about their relationship. Ike Jr stopped receiving money from Tina years ago so he has nothing to lose. He said Tina is disconnected and doesn't communicate with her family. Tina has literally made her life an open book and has talked about very personal matters. She purposely doesn't talk about her estrangement from her sons and grandchildren because it's shameful. A documentary should cover her good and bad attributes. Tina doesn't take accountability for all of her actions.
