Loved the video great discussion 👍🏻 Some things you might want to consider
    1. Per gallon diesel produces more energy than gas
    2. Diesel combustion is more efficient adding to higher fuel efficiency and lower CO2
    3. diesel fuel is denser than petrol and contains about 15% more energy by volume (roughly 36.9 MJ/litre compared to 33.7 MJ/litre)
    4. Accounting for the difference in energy density, the overall efficiency of the diesel engine is still some 20% greater than the petrol engine, despite the diesel engine also being heavier.
    5. A fuel consumption of 1 litre per 100km corresponds to approximately 26.5g CO2/km for diesel and 23g CO2/km for petrol, depending on the exact composition of the fuel.
To say Petrol pollutes less is an over simplification. When you Americans drive your big F truck around with large displacement V8’s you are throwing the baby out with the bath water.🤦🏼

saying diesel pollutes less just because it gives off less co2 is an extreme oversimplification as well because it gives off larger amounts of other air pollutants. this shows just how deep the conversation goes and how there's so many moving parts to a conversation about emissions. definitely not something that can be argued in the format of youtube comments.

While diesel may be about 25 cents a gallon more per gallon, over doubling my fuel mileage has more than made up for it. To top it off, with a 33 gallon tank it's nice to have to only fill up every 600 miles or so, or once every 3-4 weeks.

Enrique Ortiz - You have a point, but you’ve also forgotten that there were some Oldsmobile and Pontiac vehicles that GM tried to separate from the herd. Cars like the Aurora and Intrigue were meant to help revive Oldsmobile and they didn’t share as much with other GM products. The Pontiac G8 was nothing like any other GM offering in America at the time. Engines like the Quad 4 and “Shortstar” V6 were originally exclusive to Oldsmobile. All proved to be either underwhelming or too little too late for each division, but what’s more irreplaceable are the pairs’ history and place in American culture. Buicks on the other hand have almost always been seen as grandpa cars and the Chinese market is the only reason they’re still around. I for one could live without Buick.

I used to dislike diesel cars until I’ve test driven the new GTD. I sold my Polo that petrol car within 16 months and upgraded to 2018 GTD 2.0. I get more miles than my polo 1.2ltr turbo car. This GTD also has 184BHP with plenty of good toys to keep me happy on long journeys. I had it for four months and no issues whatsoever. It’s well balanced with performance, design, comfort, features, practicality and safety. What not to like?

Traveled around Europe with a friend who's dad owned one of these. It was great on the autobahn, and back roads. Hopless in Monaco and Cannes with the small parking garages. All up, we did several thousand kilometers, car was fine. Before I flew home, I asked about the car and I was told they only own the car for about 1.5 years before they flog it off and get a new one. I bet if they hung onto it any longer, they'd have a TON of problems, but they don't own them long enough for any problems to occur.
My friend here in Australia bought one, the same as what you featured Scotty. His heater has broken. My guess, all that plastic crap has degraded with one too many heat cycles and it's now kaput.

I have the 328d (BMW Coupe) and I absolutely love the performance, but you're very right about the particulate monitoring system going crazy. Currently fighting my check engine light intermittently to pass emissions.
I only bought it so I could run it on Biodiesel, but it very clearly states not to do that.
Maybe I'll chance it when I pay it off

    • @r2dad282

My understanding is that the cars you want for biodiesel are pre-common rail injection. Essentially all diesel by about 2004 became common rail. You want, say, a 1999 Jetta TDI. The feds don't like biodiesel because you are avoiding their obscene taxes.

I don't think I would be the same SUV for using in the city. If you need to bomb around the countryside on bad roads and in bad weather this is a great SUV though.
