    Toy Talk with Logan Skeele

    Logan:
Tom Inman was a pioneer in the trucking industry. He maintained one of the most successful trucking firms in the Tulsa area for more than 30 years. Many of his innovations are used in the industry today.
Well talk about coincidence, I was going to talk about First Gear's K100 for Tom Inman Trucking and there goes an Inman truck rocketing by us right now. Wow! He is going fast!
    Bud:
Talk about a blast from the past, I just got passed by a Tom Inman Truck.
    Logan:
I think they are talking about Tom Inman on the cb, lets listen in. I hope I can keep up with the Inman truck.
    Bud:
Anybody here remember Tom Inman trucking out of Tulsa, Oklahoma? My grandpa and dad both drove for Inman transportation until he went out of business around 1982 so I got lots of time riding with him on the doghouse of a few of his trucks.
    Fred:
Tom Inman You Say? Sure, I remember Tom. Back in the 60's he was running produce. I lost track of him when he started hauling glass for Ford Motor Company. Ford made him haul only for them and to buy a fleet of Ford trucks. That turned out to be a sweet deal at first. Unfortunately, Ford pulled the plug on Tom. Ya see, while Tom was hauling Ford Glass around Tom was out of the general trucking world and lost all of his customer base. So, Tom had to start all over again. So, he simply shut down and retired.
    Logan:
Ford Contract guess that's why he is running in my neck of the woods, with Ford just down the highway from me.
    Eric:
I used to drive for Monfort out of Colorado and it was said about Monfort drivers that if you could keep up with a Monfort truck you could almost cut your drive time by half. Of course, that was the trick --- keeping up. At one time I heard that saying applied to Inman trucks. Is that true?
    Paul:
Yep! There used to be saying, “if you wanted to get somewhere in a hurry, get behind an Inman truck and you could get to where you were going faster, that is if you could keep up.
    Kenny:
I remember Tom Inman. I remember when he got roof air deflectors. He had the letters “TI” in big letters put on them. We would ask the drivers if that stood for Tanksley Inc. That would get a rise out of them every time.
    Tammy:
I remember at one time in the 60s Tom had a Cat mechanic working for him. That man really knew Caterpillar motors. Tom had a hard time keeping him because everyone wanted him. Good help in the mechanic world to this day is hard to keep.
    Paul:
You know I remember 2 Inman trucks pulling out of the yard together on a Monday morning early in May. There was a low hill they had to climb so they ran about 40 miles per hour for the first thirty minutes or so to warm up the engines, then it was full bore to the west coast.
    Kenny:
I suppose most of you know who Jerry Inman is, that's Tom's nephew. Jerry was in the trucking world and lived about ten miles from me. Anyway, after Tom went out my dad ran reefer and hauled sulfuric acid for CMS (Chemical Marketing Service) outa Tulsa around 85' and they had bought a bunch of Jerry's Pete 359's and used them for their reefer division.
    Tammy:
Have any of you guys got pictures of the paint jobs Tom used on his tractor trailers?
    Kolby:
You bet! I have got quite a few pictures of Inman trucks. Be happy to send them to you. I remember the green and white was the older paint job, and the rainbow was the paint jobs he had started about 4 years before he went out of business. I've got a picture right here of the late 77's and up paint jobs.
    Logan:
Well, I give up, That Kenworth Tom Inman is too fast for me. Guess they've all gone out of radio range, but I think we have heard enough about Inman trucking and Tom Inman to get an idea that he ran a successful trucking company.
DCP by First Gear released a beautiful 1:64th scale truck for Tom Inman Trucking Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is a Kenworth K100 Tom Inman rainbow paint scheme from his late four years in operation.

The trailer resembles an old school Fruehauf.

Sure does. I'm pretty sure an old Fruehauf was what they used for reference in making this trailer

It’s a 108 inch cab and the air intake was always on the drivers side. Peterbilt was 110 and in the air intake was passenger side

Thanks for the info :) I've seen K100s with intake stacks on both sides so I didn't know that factory was on the drivers side.

When will we see a Maurice Bruenger model and some history? Bruenger has been around as long as any of them, and still in business. I'd love to see some of his White Feightliners from the late 70's!

Of Course! Had that CB in my truck since the day I bought the truck. And that cb came out of my Dad's truck. Its over 30 years old now, only had to replace the microphone once in that time.

What happened to Tom Inman trucking

    • @LoganSkeele
      @LoganSkeele  Před rokem

When he lost the contract with Ford which didnt allow him to have other customers, he just shut down rather than try to build a new customer group from scratch
