I'm an art instructor from the Philippines. Here's why anime is frowned upon quite frequently.
It's because most art profs want art students to pursue studying the fundamentals of figure drawing which is realism or drawing the human figure in it's realistic form. Because once you master the anatomy, that's when you can explore stylizing or creating other styles such as comic book, anime, cartoons, etc.
I always put it this way, Think of drawing as a making a dough for baking and the bread, cakes and other pastries are the different art styles. You cannot jump from baking a cookie to baking a cake immediately. You have to master making the dough first before venturing out to other stuff you can bake (art styles.)

It sucks that they get paid little for their hard work, but on the other hand if they got paid 50% more, let's say, that comes around to us, the consumer. Streaming services will cost more, blu-rays will cost more, etc. And I don't know about you personally, but if you're like many anime fans and only pirate anime then it's not fair to say animators should be paid more when you don't even support the product. Again, not saying this is anyone in particular, just some anime fans in general.

It has a reason though. In order to be able to simplify real life, you first need the fundamentals, and many people coming into art school think that they can draw anime right away without fundamental knowledge and call their lazy attempt an "artstyle" while in reality they do it just because it's somewhat simplee with less detail that they wouldn't be able to add in anyways.

@@pixiepearl2783 Possibly yes, but you go to art school to learn. Most people going fresh to art school will most definitely be taught the fundamentals for a very long time at first before getting into more personal projects. But even then, in order for the teachers to test your knowledge and skill, you must create pieces that revolve around these fundamentals, and a simplified style is not fit for that. I guess what I mean is that art school isn't a place for your own style, that's what you do at home. You take all the things that you've learned at art school and put them into your own style, even if it's simplified or cartoonish.

Yeah I know, right!. It is so much noticeable that it's hard to ignore it.
Also, I don't blame the staff since they for sure tried their best to put out the anime but I'd blame the production committee for the choices they made for the critical positions *when* there were clear BETTER choices available for it (like for Director, Chief Animation Director)
It would have been a different scenario if there was a studio change or they were given less time to work on it, but technically they had like 4 years to work on it and still they couldn't put up a single episode at the level of S3 (which I know was a high budget season) but not even at the level of S2 matches which is just sad and unfortunate for a hype match overall.
The best indicator that season won't be same as previous one was the openings. They had less action which directly implies so many things... Season 2 openings were filled with so much action.. Rip Season 4, adaptation was 7/10 for 10/10 plot 😭

@Kate A English is lenient. English is basically dumbed down Latin imbued with a mixture of all other languages in Europe, made so that the illiterate masses could have some sort of literacy for communication without wasting half their life learning it. One of the ways English is easy is that unlike most other languages, it doesn't give a gender noun for objects without life. Theres only a single 'the' for all the objects in the world. It's a crowd pleaser language.

@Kate A but it's leniency is what makes it a good language. It does the job of communication very very well. A few words can get your meaning across to almost anyone anywhere. It's only when you try to go in depth in the language, u realise how its also incomplete and kinda troublesome at times. For example, Shakespeare, to make sense of his plays and poems and the ideas he wanted to portray, he had to invent and add almost 1700 words to the English language. Even now, it's one of the few languages that has to keep updating it's dictionary from time to time as more words keep coming up.

That could have been an other ordinary graphite drawing, it could have been my oil pastel works, but that the one i thought was my very best happend to be "Manga" like drawing, and it was just mere coincidence..
So as she was flipping thru my works, she took about a minute to evaluate each work, but when she got to my manga drawing she just, flipped thru it right away, and she said "That's manga" with a disapproving face.. Look, i understand Manga as a style and or artistic choice can't be evaluated because it's history is merely TV / Manga entertainment, but mother fucker at least value the work i have put into it.. While it's starting to change in the last few years it's still mostly what it is for cheap studio and it will take even longer for that reputation to disappear.
