I'm hoping that the anime takes a complete 180 from the game so it can become a unique form of standalone Nier content, and so that people stop comparing the two.
Why would they do that? Isnt better to stick to the wonderful story the game has offered us? If they do 180 isnt that disrespectful for the characters and the story ? Let alone the mistakes they would do if they took that route.

Definitely an Artist’s methodology. Personally, I think of any Nier lore like I do stories that have been passed down through time by various peoples - there are going to be nuances and alterations that don’t quite fit - and that doesn’t really matter because we’re not reading a history book - we’re experiencing a story. I like that the lore is loosely connected and there is room for the anime to be completely unique - and I hope it does become its own thing, not just a copy of the game.
I like how the series divulged in several timelines. It was the main plot of drakengard 3, and drakengard 1 branches into 2 timelines. I also have a small theory that gestalt and replicant are both possible and both lead to automata as a separate timeline
Based on the story of Iron Pipe in Automata game and brother Nier appearing in Automata anime, I think in the context of your theory, we can say that Gestalt leads to Automata game and Replicant leads to Automata anime. BUT, and this is a BIG BUT, I have played Automata in English. So it is possible for Iron pipe's story to be about papa Nier only in English and about brother Nier in Japanese.

I see the Nier anime as the "rebuild" of Nier Automata just like the rebuild series of Evangelion. They both start out pretty similar to the source material (i.e. the original 1995 Eva series and the Nier Automata game) while slowly but surely creating more visible differences that aren't just cosmetic but affect the plot as well, to the point where the plot begins to take an interesting turn into a new form. No this is incorrect if you listen to how the the developers say it they they pronounced it correctly its ôdo-mă-tă. Basicly you are miss pronouncing the "auto" section the most. Cause if you look at it on it's own you would think it's the shorter version of automatic or automobile.

I have the feeling that if we're being told the current fate of the Aliens in the anime, it'll be at the same time as 9S being told the current fate of humans. Whether that'll be in this season or some time next season is yet to be seen. But the symmetry would kinda work, even if in the base game the aliens is sort of just a weird side story that only becomes relevent thematically with the whole "god is dead" thing.
honestly the way Im seeing the anime is something of an alternate timeline, from Episode 2 the moment we met up with the resistance I was asking "where is Anemone?" then the pearl habour epsiode happened letting us know she died and basically things shifted from there.
When we see the flashback to a2 and her old squad it seemed very clear to me that the Yorha units had direct connections to resistance members in physical appearance. The most obvious one was the first two girls to stay back and hold off the machines with the sniper. There is a shot of just the two of them and dialogue implies something as well. With the strange church statues we see later I think androids are based off templates. I very much think all of this was created for the sole purpose of making 9s believe in the context of the world, not anyone else. If he is based on "the original" it could go back to the old question of why some random silver hair boy is the only one capable of being the shadowlord.
For anyone that is unaware The point about Lily being the resistance leader rather than Anemone is because the events concerning the Pearl Harbor Decent as depicted in the Anime is adapted from the YoRHa Ver.1.2 Musical stage play, not the version in the game's records. *spoilers for the play* In the play Lily is the only survivor other than A2, just like in the anime. Also, Ishikawa Yui (2B's Japanese VA) plays A2 in the play which is quite nice. Recommend any NieR fan watches it. Especially if you want to catch all of the references in the Anime.
Taro says Evangelion was a huge inspiration for so much throughout his works, I think that this is a take on the way the timeline "resets for another go around" in cycles, with minor differences but playing out largely the same until the cycle is broken.
It always confused me when people said that the anime wouldn't be able to do the story justice, when NieR has been using linear media presentations for years now? Hell, the Drakengard 3 timeline that connected to DoD1 and NieR was only shown in a side story, not even in the game. Replicant's ending E was originally written in the Grimoire NieR. So much of the lore of these games were only detailed in stuff like the world guides, live-action theatre performances, concerts, etc. The anime doesn't *need* to do the game's story justice, it's just another portrayal of a series of events in some timeline
I guess it might have been better to say "I was worried the anime would do the story a disservice" rather than "would the anime do the story justice?" in the video. It hurts me a little when I see people having a negative impression of The World Ends With You, Persona 4/5, Promised Neverland (maybe not a great manga by the end), etc. because of a bad anime adaptation with many elements out of the creators control I guess others are worried about being burned again as well?
That would be great, I'd like to know more about why Accord is helping resistance members in the first place. The resistance camp weapons merchant has yet to mention that she supplies him the weapons in the anime, but he does have a bunch of weapons for sale from Replicant in episode 3 which is cool.

It was created only to perpetuate the lie that humans are still alive on the moon, to give androids something to fight for. After all their core is "protect the humanity", without humanity there is no reason for them to go on.

I was a NieR fan since i first played the original Japanese game (Being Half-Japanese), and at the time i had a different experience than the players who played the Western release. I couldn't really relate to Papa NieR at all. From that point onwards, i have played everything (Including the Western release). and everything else. Automata too, but in English this time. And i can't say how much better the voice acting in English is. It's not like Japanese is bad, not at all. But if someone asked me for the first time which language, English is the most obvious choice. Same for the Remake of Replicant, which is far far better than both original Replicant and Gestalt. Seen all the novellas and everything from that point. But i somehow skipped this anime? Like maybe i heard of it that it was in production once, but probably forgot about it. And no one talked about it at all. So i actually didn't think about it until i saw THIS video. Now regarding the theory. I don't really think that's it... they don't repeat the same cycle in the same way. That is literally impossible to happen unless it was some Steins;Gate science where 2B would loop back in the timeline, or shifting the current timeline. I don't want to dwell on this a lot, but if we look at the time like a line, then it can't repeat itself. It's just impossible. Same events could never happen in that way, unless time again is just a dot, or you leaped through time to the exact same date to repeat it, and some events just are different from a deviation. We know what happens in the game, and if the same thing is happening in anime, that means on different missions, or occasions while going on those missions PRIOR to the events when we first play the game. Events and their mission would always be different, and 9S thus never learns the truth until after we ourselves learned it by ending A/B. Of course the anime can play something from a different memory, and something could be off. And the pacing can be different until they make a Season 2. It's just impossible to make a 1:1 adaptation of something that is a video game. Anyone knows that. You can try to follow the same path as the game, but due to how a game works, everyone has slightly different experiences and memories. And to this date, it's basically impossible to make a perfect adaptation. You can sometimes make a better adaptation than a manga and novel to anime, for sure, not always, but a lot of the times. However this isn't possible when it comes to video games. So creative liberty and differences must be taken. But then again i didn't watch the whole anime apart from what you have showed here. And i would say animation looks good, but animation always looks better the first time i watch something on YT. Maybe it's the bit content pieces where there are no errors in animation shown by frame. And from what i can see it's a bit of a mixed feelings on ratings. However obviously i am going to give it a go. Glad the same voice actors are reprising their roles, Yoko Taro is there along with Keiichi Okabe, so i doubt it's bad. But it obviously doesn't show the whole picture to first time viewers. The thing that surprised me the most that little stories and even original NieR scenes flashbacks were there. Guys, I don't know if im onto something, but like I've just started watching episode 9. For the love of god, I couldn't find out where I could watch it since netflix doesn't have it, and animedao got shut down. Anyway, I just finished the game yesterday and watched this video before watching episode 9. I mean, I haven't even finished episode 9 yet. So hear me out.... what if instead of it being a prequel but more of a sequal to the game... after the end of yorha, pod 152 said whether or not everything would turn out the same as it did in the game but pod 042 said he cannot deny it but the possibility of different future also exist.... It sparked to me after seeing the city ruin and the cave. Like i was so surprised. No golliath came, so it being a prequel is so weird to me. But idk haven't finished episode 9 yet. Will give out an updated opinion after finishing episodes 9-12. Edit 1: So just finished episode 9-12. Honestly I'm still confused but I still think this is the sequel or sort of a different future from the game. But people might ask or tell that the changes is not that drastic or like completely different than the game. Well the gamers might know. This is just the prologue lmao. So idk. Maybe im wrong so who knows. Side note: Lmao the church in the copied city when they fight adam is so damm funny. The fact that yoko taro used it as homage to the three mod dev who trolled the entire community is so funny. Now they can proudly say that their work is somehow cannon lmao😂
I mean, there's a reason the anime is called Nier Automata 1.1a. It's literally a new version of the story built upon the original game. Taro himself said that the game's story wouldn't work in anime format, so he rewrote it. He said that's he's to blame if you don't like this version.
I've seen speculations that this particular timeline that the anime is following is based on Replicant's Ending E. Iirc, Automata originally followed Ending B or D (can't remember which but it isn't ending E) since Nier Gestalt didnt have Ending E and that's why Emil is a head in Automata.
Ending E had actually already existed in book form by the time of the stage play and later automata. It already followed what was generally the same story scenario as E, though with an extended bit that slightly touched on the aliens. It was in grimoire nier, as was most the stuff added into the replicant remake.
I think they made creative changes since 1 to 1 adapting the game is basically impossible, and quite boring, so taking all the freedoms an anime can take to further flesh out the universe is the best thing they could have done.
Because it's yet another timeline. At this point you think people would realize that this happen everytime with adaptations of the Drakenier games into another medium

The anime is an alternate branch to the game. Season 2 will establish a connection to Reincarnation. And the final chapter of Reincarnation will lead into DoD 3
I don't think it's a prequel, too many problems with that idea, I think it's just an alternate reality which as we see in Nier Reincarnation exist. Spoilers and speculation for where I think / hope Grun will show up, as well as possible answers to a question the anime brings up that only people who have played the game would even think to ask. I'm thinking Grun might replace both the Engels in the city AND the multilegged goliath that Eve uses as a vehicle that you fight after saving the resistance camp from the berserk "zombie" machines (the one that 9S rams his flight unit into upon returning to earth). Also the aliens were dead for hundreds of years and YoRHa wasn't around back then. So I think the reveal will be saved for the end of the season, possibly revealed at the same time or very closely to the reveal that humanity is gone too. However... that begs the question of who the Council is that are talking to Commander White? the way I see it, there are 3 possibilities. 1. The council is the Android high command: Most straightforward, Commander White is the commander of YoRha, not all of the android forces. 2. The council are an externalized manifestation of Commander White's guilt: More psychological, but a possible cognative dissonence/scapegoat to absolve White of her more nefarious actions in the game by blaming them on a non-existent council. 3. The council are controlled by the Terminals: Not mutually exclusive with option 1, though unlikely to mesh with 2. The council might be manipulated or outright be controlled by the Logic Virus and nobody knows.
So have you not played Nier Replicant and only know bits and pieces? Seems weird that you wouldn't mention Beepy, since he's basically the Machines' God and his attachment to Kalil is more or less what caused them to be how they are.
I've played Gestalt in near-completionist mode like a decade ago and a not so completionist playthrough of Replicant ver 1.22 (in ref to side quests) That's a good question. I tried to keep the scope of this video limited to Automata anime vs game comparisons and only mention Replicant when the anime decided to, so that it's friendlier for anime only people. I didn't want it to be a deeper lore video and analyze why the nature of the machines is the way that it is. Although, if we had ended up actually seeing Beepy or if the spirit of fire cutscene is changed in anime (can't remember if it was already shown in anime already now) I guess I would've mentioned parts of the background info? I'd probably have to bring up Fire of Prometheus then as well.

I mean, there's a reason the anime is called Nier Automata 1.1a. It's literally a new version of the story built upon the original game. Taro himself said that the game's story wouldn't work in anime format, so he rewrote it. He said that's he's to blame if you don't like this version.

I've seen speculations that this particular timeline that the anime is following is based on Replicant's Ending E. Iirc, Automata originally followed Ending B or D (can't remember which but it isn't ending E) since Nier Gestalt didnt have Ending E and that's why Emil is a head in Automata.

I don't think so. From what I remember in the Automata Emil was aware of NieR's existence. Besides all stories from Grimoire Nier are canon.
Ending E had actually already existed in book form by the time of the stage play and later automata.
It already followed what was generally the same story scenario as E, though with an extended bit that slightly touched on the aliens.
It was in grimoire nier, as was most the stuff added into the replicant remake.
I think they made creative changes since 1 to 1 adapting the game is basically impossible, and quite boring, so taking all the freedoms an anime can take to further flesh out the universe is the best thing they could have done.

The anime is an alternate branch to the game. Season 2 will establish a connection to Reincarnation. And the final chapter of Reincarnation will lead into DoD 3

I don't think it's a prequel, too many problems with that idea, I think it's just an alternate reality which as we see in Nier Reincarnation exist.
Spoilers and speculation for where I think / hope Grun will show up, as well as possible answers to a question the anime brings up that only people who have played the game would even think to ask.
I'm thinking Grun might replace both the Engels in the city AND the multilegged goliath that Eve uses as a vehicle that you fight after saving the resistance camp from the berserk "zombie" machines (the one that 9S rams his flight unit into upon returning to earth). Also the aliens were dead for hundreds of years and YoRHa wasn't around back then. So I think the reveal will be saved for the end of the season, possibly revealed at the same time or very closely to the reveal that humanity is gone too.
However... that begs the question of who the Council is that are talking to Commander White?
the way I see it, there are 3 possibilities.
1. The council is the Android high command: Most straightforward, Commander White is the commander of YoRha, not all of the android forces.
2. The council are an externalized manifestation of Commander White's guilt: More psychological, but a possible cognative dissonence/scapegoat to absolve White of her more nefarious actions in the game by blaming them on a non-existent council.
3. The council are controlled by the Terminals: Not mutually exclusive with option 1, though unlikely to mesh with 2. The council might be manipulated or outright be controlled by the Logic Virus and nobody knows.

I've played Gestalt in near-completionist mode like a decade ago and a not so completionist playthrough of Replicant ver 1.22 (in ref to side quests)
That's a good question. I tried to keep the scope of this video limited to Automata anime vs game comparisons and only mention Replicant when the anime decided to, so that it's friendlier for anime only people. I didn't want it to be a deeper lore video and analyze why the nature of the machines is the way that it is. Although, if we had ended up actually seeing Beepy or if the spirit of fire cutscene is changed in anime (can't remember if it was already shown in anime already now) I guess I would've mentioned parts of the background info? I'd probably have to bring up Fire of Prometheus then as well.

I honestly like it, it's like the game hit you with a cross to the face but the anime decide to hit you with a rear hook STILL to the face. Both will end up HURT you EQUALLY.
