In interviews with Jim Parsons, he seems to be a gentle person, not wanting to offend any of his interviewers. THAT IS ELWOOD P. DOWD. I saw the movie years ago, and was not sure if Parsons could play the part well. Well, I was WRONG. He's wonderful.
acually, he brings a lot of himself into the characters he plays so therefor the connection you are seeing between Elwood P. Dowd and Dr. Sheldon Cooper is in fact Jim Parsons
Apparently Steven Spielberg wanted to turn this into a movie in 2009 but couldn't find an actor willing to play Elwood so he cancelled the whole production. Well, he's got Jim now, it'd be great if the project could continue... :)
I performed in a community theatre version of this show just last month; I played Wilson the orderly. I was reciting the lines in this video with a smile on my face. 😂
Would be great to see Parsons in a film remake of this, even though the James Stewart film and tv adaption(1972) were great. But please please please whoever directs it, do NOT make Harvey a huge 6.3" CGI'ed rabbit! Harvey's invisibility is half of the fun and humour.
Just saw this last Friday night an loved it! Jim Parsons was great and Jessica Hecht was hilarious. Highly recommend it. I've never seen the movie but I will now.
The key the Jimmy Stewart laid out to make Elwood believable was that he was laid back and very easy going not a care in the world and genuinely interested in your opinion with Jimmy Stewart stilling that into his character Elwood made Harvey believable
We saw Jimmy Steward , Helen Hayes and Jessy White on Broadway in Harvey long ago . The invisible white rabbet got a twenty minute standing ovation !! I hope this is half as good .
this was the first show i auditioned for. it was my senior year of high school and i was brand new to theater. i auditioned for the role of elwood, and honestly killed it. even the other student up for the role said i deserved it. well right before posting the cast list, the theater director pulled me into his office and told me that my audition was phenomenal but that he opted to go with an experienced theater student with a proven track record because he didn’t wanna risk the lead role to a newbie who might not memorize his lines. so i ended up getting sanderson which was still a fun role albeit a little disappointing. great experience tho, would love to see this performance in full
Please let there be a film version of this made with this very cast. From what little i've seen here i know i would love it and i now don't want to see any other version of it until i've seen this version. I will, of course, see the classic James Stewart version afterwards but i want this version to be where i learn the full story of Harvey.
I was in this show my senior year of High school and that same year, over the summer, I got to go see this. It made my life. It was delightful and funny and charming and and and and and!!! Beautiful production.
I just saw this on Wednesday. it was awesome! The only part where i heard Sheldon was when he said that it was impossible to button your lip and talk at the same time. other than that, Elwood and Sheldon (and Jim even) are completely different.
The way he speaks he just sounds and seems like Sheldon...its so hard to not see him as such because in everything he does he speaks in the exact same manner.
I have to say, it must be you. I adore Sheldon, but I saw the play in May and Jim's Elwood was absolutely nothing like Sheldon. Jim and the play were both amazing. My only regret is that I can't go back and see it again.
I'm going to see this next Saturday and I've watched a bunch of clips. I am a huge fan of Dr. Sheldon Cooper on the Big Bang Theory, but when I watch the clips I feel like Jim Parsons is perfect for the role. I never saw James Stewart as Elwood, so I have no previous expectations. I think the character should be loveable and that's what Jim Parsons is. It's not that he plays Elwood as too much like Sheldon, it's just that he is a loveable adorable person. He's perfect.
Cannot wait for this. Been dreaming of seeing Harvey since I was a little girl, and the fact that Jim is playing Elwood is the cherry on top :) traveling all the way from Sydney for this. So so so excited xD
Elwood P. Dowd is the anti-Sheldon. Sometimes he's literal-minded, as in the scene where he points out that the orderley's statement is illogical. But Dowd is warm, loving and forgiving, and finds the good in everyone. I'd rank Jim Parsons' take on Elwood right up there with Jimmy Stewart's: maybe even above Stewart's! I had the good fortune of seeing the play a few days ago: what a joy to see a great young talent like Parsons together with fine veterans like Charles Kimbrough and Carol Kane.
Harvey is one of my favourite films and Jimmy Stewarts one of my favourite actors, if not people ever! Bonus being Sheldon Cooper has to be one of the best TV characters ever, making Jim Parsons one of the best actors around at the moment. Will it be coming to the UK with this cast does anyone know? Would give my right arm to see it (but wouldn't fly to America) :P
I saw it in May. Wonderful! Parson's does not come across as Sheldon at all. He does have Jim moments for both Elwood and Sheldon but that's to be expected. This play is well performed by all! Thankfully my sister is treating me to another viewing next week!! So excited to see it again!!
OH MY GAWD I LOVE THE MOVIE HARVEY!! I commented on Chris pratts insta about a year ago he should play ellwood!!!! Wish I could of seen this play!! I just watched the movie lastnight!! So strange!!
Can someone help me understand the vidoe this is my teacher questions. English isn't my first language, This quiz covers the material from the Theatre "Relationship" Lecture. It primarily consists of Multiple-Choice questions with two True/False questions. It is available to be taken from at 1/5 at 3:45 PM to 1/8 at 1:00 PM. You will have 60 minutes to take the quiz. The first three questions pertain to a section of a linked online clip of the Broadway production of Harvey, starring Jim Parson as Elwood P. Dowd. The specific section to watch is from 0:50 - 2:08 when Elwood is talking primarily with "Aunt Ethel". Here is the link: This quiz is not an open book assignment nor a group project. It is a tool to assess your individual knowledge/understanding of the material covered in the lecture, and, therefore, is to be taken individually with no assistance/collaboration. To do otherwise is a break in the Academic Honesty policy and counter to the learning process.
I know I'm harping on the Jimmy Stewart thing, but I'm gonna do it again. Elwood doesn't actually have to be anything like Dr Cooper, if you've seen the original movie. In fact, he's not supposed to be rude, he's a gentle kind man ... But I completely agree, if Jim Parsons was given the opportunity to do a character which was dark and evil for example, then we might get to see some more of his talent.
I hated actors until I watched Big Bang Theory, then I found my most favorite group of actors ever. Jim is my favorite. he's so awesome at what he does
Saw it on Broadway last week. Although I simply love Jim Parsons, all I could hear and see during the first act was James Stewart. However, in the second act, Parsons became more visible as Dowd. The play is great though and worth watching, but if you expect James Stewart's level, you are in for a slight disappointment. Other actors are good, but the real treat of the show is Dowd's sister. She rules supreme.
Hmm, perhaps it is me, I have been watching a lot of Big Bang lately. I live in Melbourne however, and won't be able to see the play on Broadway. I think this is going to be the risk every actor takes when they accept a role, which has been done with such fantastic success already by a brilliant actor like Stewart. In my opinion it's almost not worth doing on Broadway again as Stewart made the character his own. Just for the sake of trivia, the character of Elwood was created by Frank Fay.
i hear a little Texas in his voice. it sounds so cute.
Lol he is so cute. I love Jim Parsons.
OMG if anyone can fill Jimmy Stewart's shoes it is Jim Parsons he is an incredible actor I would love to see him do Arsenic @ Old Lace
Jim is so cute
Apparently Steven Spielberg wanted to turn this into a movie in 2009 but couldn't find an actor willing to play Elwood so he cancelled the whole production. Well, he's got Jim now, it'd be great if the project could continue... :)

I premiere as Elwood tomorrow for a three night run at my high school.
I sooo wish I had seen this Jim was superb in the available scenes-such a great actor
The real treat is Jessica Hecht...she is absolutely amazing in this show. She plays Elwood's sister. That's her at the telephone at 2:08
Respect for Jim. BIG RESPECT
Just saw this last Friday night an loved it! Jim Parsons was great and Jessica Hecht was hilarious. Highly recommend it. I've never seen the movie but I will now.
I am a big fan of Jim's and was so happy to see these U-Tubes of him in Harvey. To old to go to N Y but wish him the best.
Where can you find this full version of Harvey starring Jim Parsons? If there isn't, it should be
I still can't find any site for the full version :( someone help pls
Doing this show this fall at my high school! Really want to be Myrtle! Wish we had someone as awesome as Jim to be Elwood!
The key the Jimmy Stewart laid out to make Elwood believable was that he was laid back and very easy going not a care in the world and genuinely interested in your opinion with Jimmy Stewart stilling that into his character Elwood made Harvey believable
Jim Parsons seems to be putting in an outstanding performance! Good for him!
We saw Jimmy Steward , Helen Hayes and Jessy White on Broadway in Harvey long ago . The invisible white rabbet got a twenty minute standing ovation !! I hope this is half as good .
His portrayal of Elwood Dowd is superb! James Stewart would be very pleased.

I love Jim, too! Hope you had a great time!! He is so talented and hilarious! ♥
What fun!! And that was one great audience!!
I saw it this past saturday Jim Parsons did a fantastic job.The whole cast was great.
I like Jim Parsons well enough. But no matter what he does, I hear Oh, the Boove from HOME.
Please let there be a film version of this made with this very cast. I couldn't see Jim Parsons as Elwood. The 1950's film was such a masterpiece
and I couldn't see such a masterpiece directed by Spielberg.
saw this Saturday night; it was wonderful!!
He is a great actor.
The way he speaks he just sounds and seems like Sheldon...its so hard to not see him as such because in everything he does he speaks in the exact same manner.
I have the part of Wilson in my high school play March 13-15. Some of the most fun I've had in my entire life. =D
I have to say, it must be you. I adore Sheldon, but I saw the play in May and Jim's Elwood was absolutely nothing like Sheldon. Jim and the play were both amazing. My only regret is that I can't go back and see it again.
I wish we could watch the whole show on here I wanna see this.
Just saw this yesterday, and got a backstage tour. It was great!
He does look young... It's so weird that he is 39 years old...
This is my high school's fall play! I am so excited:)
Love this guy
wow that was just awesome what a supurb cast and prodcution.. thank you for sharing.
x
Jim is so talented! Thank you very much for uploading this video. Love him.
Bravo Jim.
Wow never knew he did a remake of HARVEY...
It's my favorite movie ever..
I would have loved to see this!
I think Jimmy Stewart would have approved
Aw Carol Kane is awesome!!! (The lady playing Mrs Chumley.) She was (among other things) the Spirit of Christmas Present in Scrooged.
I'm going to see this next Saturday and I've watched a bunch of clips. Cannot wait for this. Been dreaming of seeing Harvey since I was a little girl, and the fact that Jim is playing Elwood is the cherry on top :) traveling all the way from Sydney for this. So so so excited xD
all jim really needs is the right director to tap into him to bring out his best

This look like a good show.
Dear Jim Parsons, could you fix it for me, to bring this fantastic play, over to England...please xx
You can clearly see Jim Parsons has studied the body movements of Jimmy Stewart. Its like he is channeling him.
I will never be able to see him in a role other than Sheldon. I even watched his past part in Garden State and all I saw was Sheldon.
omg!! i really want to see this sooo bad!!!!!!!!!!! LOL! I just love Jim
Harvey is one of my favourite films and Jimmy Stewarts one of my favourite actors, if not people ever! Bonus being Sheldon Cooper has to be one of the best TV characters ever, making Jim Parsons one of the best actors around at the moment.

When he says: what you suggest is impossible, I can't button my lip and give straight answers it was a very Sheldon like moment.
Actually, in the play, Elwood says he's 39, and that's how old Jim Parsons is in real life
OH MY GAWD I LOVE THE MOVIE HARVEY!! I commented on Chris pratts insta about a year ago he should play ellwood!!!! Wish I could of seen this play!! I just watched the movie lastnight!! So strange!!
I am so excited to see this!!
i just saw it 2 days ago it was amazing
Is there anywhere to get the full version?
I still can't find it-
My school is doing this play and I'm working props!
Im auditioning for it tomorrow at my school! I'm very nervous!
I don't really like Harvey but Jim Parsons looks great as Elwood. I'll definitely see the remake with JP.

I was there that night and you guys are not seeing Sheldon but you are in fact seeing Jim

Mine is tomorrow. I am so nervous!
This looks good..
I hated actors until I watched Big Bang Theory, then I found my most favorite group of actors ever. Jim is my favorite. he's so awesome at what he does
Just got cast as Dowd!

8:04 - 8:14, would PAY to have Jim Parsons look at me like that, lol.
Dr. Sheldon Cooper - Elmwood Dowd .... It's a blur ... :P
I see it too, Elwood acts like Sheldon in a way and how he says things like isnt that a pooker ect. Its not a bad thing.
