Living 40 minutes from New York city I'm still blown away about alllll the different communities and gatherings of people that make up a group. It's amazing and heart warming.
I lived in Cologne (Köln) for a year and I think I know what you mean. Will watch the movie due to this review. (I have to be honest that whilst having lived in the US, I have no idea what 'The ball scene' is. I think the pressure in the US is so much higher since you don't have any safety net from society. In Europe it all blends more easily together in my opinion.)
Thanks as always for a great review. I pretty much decide if I want to see a movie based on these reviews. This sounds like a good one. I was a teenager in NYC in the 80's, a real hick who had to become very strong very quickly. I can relate to the white boy lead, because it took me a whole year to realize who was gay and who was straight. At college, a straight roommate of a gay guy (who I sort of had a crush on) had to take me aside and explain it to me. It was a shocking epiphany, and from then on, I was like "Ohh. Wow! How did I not see this or understand??" So even if you are intelligent, but live(d) in an insular world, it's totally possible to be *that* clueless. I look back now and can't believe how clueless I was!! (WTF?) Another thing I remember that just the words "Port Authority" bring to mind is: "OK ... you are now entering Port Authority. Danger!" As a young teenage female, all kinds of predators and sleaze bags would approach me ... well, I'm sure you understand. What a time! NYC in the 80's. So thanks also for the trip down memory lane. Love you guys! 🙃❤
Great review!!! I appreciate how you bring movies to my attention that I otherwise would never know existed. Off topic, ever since Your last review I’ve been thinking how the world needs a Fish Jelly shirt that says ‘Smother The Baby’ on it. As always thanks for posting. Much love
I liked it but then I think it was unrealistic. Most men into us would never step foot into a ball or want to be apart of a house. Its like they fit so much in, the movie felt rushed. I also felt it was kinda unrealistic
I believe the group was not only homophobic , they were also racist and just showcased dislike for different people with their immigration scam. And i think this movie is based in the late 80s early 90s.
