  • Genesee Valley Center is a surviving shopping mall near Flint MI. However, recent events suggest that maybe this mall isn't doing so well after all. Let's discuss and I'll tell you what I mean.

    You can't grade anywhere based on money!!! It's living beings here with great ideas and a whole lot of tenacity. You won't see the growth until it's too late just like a cheap stock price that goes through the roof!! FLINT IS THE BEST PLACE TO INVEST RIGHT NOW ESPECIALLY WITH ALL OF THE "BAD" Press.

    • @BoratWanksta
      @BoratWanksta Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I don't think Namdar has ever managed any of their malls well. Northfield Square(Bradley, which neighbors Kankakee), River Oaks Center(Calumet City), and Ford City are examples of this in the greater Chicago area.

    Anytime I see Namdar or Kohan manage a mall I just assume that the anchors and in-line tenants will start leaving. It’s basically a death sentence for a shopping mall! Like 5 to 10 years at the very most.

      @@DoomieGruntVentures I mean, do you even live there? I have lived within 45 minutes of Flint or Detroit, my whole life and neither one of them are as bad as some people think. They’re really just like any other big city, you wouldn’t go to certain areas of any cities and be safe. Flint and Detroit are the same. Especially the part of Flint that the mall is in. And downtown Flint has made massive strides in the last 10 years. It’s just really hard to know and to comment on something properly if you’re only listening to what you hear on the news and not actually in the area frequently.

    It's not just half of the food court being closed off it's literally only hibachi Express that serves food up there anymore everyone else left, it's sad but honestly everything except the major store chains will probably close in that mall and after that the major chains will probably leave too

    • @godusopppppp

      And really I don't think there is any saving this mall, it's literally just the people, people go there to fight all the time people get shot there and that's because of it being in flint I'd rather drive the 45 minutes to somerset mall

    I remembered back in the days during the holiday shopping season it would take you a long time to go from one side of the mall to the other, that's how packed it was! I spent most of the time in Sears, Kay-Bee toys, Aladdin's Castle, etc. Anywhere there's video games that is.

  • @FIELD2FREEZER
    @FIELD2FREEZER Před rokem +3

    Your mysterious mall closings were due to non payment of the water bill by the mall owners and the water company cut them off.
    Flint township was also never on the same water system as the famous flint city water incident. Although people talked and joked about it like it was, thus hurting businesses within the area.
    It's interesting that your video has so much information and history, yet you choose to leave out arguably the largest news piece that happened only a month before your visit. The 6 person shoot out with automatic guns that happened in the mall in Nov 2021.

    Namdar, hired my son to do a patch job on the roof of the Genesee Valley Mall, in the Summer of 2021, My son informed Nadar that the roof needed to be replaced not patched, and Namdar refused and hired another company. Just like the Courtland Mall located in Burton not far from The Genesee Valley both mall's are deterioating rapidly from slum owners and poor management. Company's like Namdar purchase property's and write them off on their taxes as losses instead of putting the money into repairing them and vamping them to thrive. It's sad really, I was born and raised in Flint, MI and The Genesee Valley Mall was an iconic part of my childhood and young life. I wish something could be done about the slum company's that purchase businesses and allow them to deteriorate just for the tax write off.

    I visited the mall with my friend about a month ago and no parts of the mall were shut off to the public. However, I noted H&M had left, and many more stores are starting to leave. Another thing to notice was that dollar sense, a store heavily affected by the water main break, is still boarded up, with all decor still in there. Idk when, but i also visited there recently and the food court looked like a ghosttown with only one stall operating. I really hope this mall doesn't become super dead bc i have alot of memories here.

    Again, Not all the declination is caused by the owners, Most of it yes, but the violence and the shootings at the Mall caused a lot of it's declination, No one wants to get shot while simply out shopping for gifts. If Namdar would have kept their contract with the security company it would have been prevented.

    While Namdar ownership is usually the Kiss of Death for a mall there are signs the company is cleaning up its act. A couple of months ago Namdar bought two malls in Connecticut and New York from Westfield, as part of the latter's exit from the US market, and they're both successful malls with high occupancy.

    I assume the open air shops you walked past in the opening scenes were part of the expansion. The almost same exact looking layout (also with a Barnes and noble) was added on to Monroeville mall about 15 years ago. I assume the same owner at the time, CBL.

      I visited all three Flint malls a little over a year ago, and that was my prediction. Dort, having had to struggle for the longest, seems to have found its niche, whereas Courtland/Eastland Mall is dead in all but final closure and GVC, while still mostly full (outside of the food court) was already looking worn down by Namdar Pseudo-mismanagement (that visit was BEFORE the water main break).

Abandoned houses, closed businesses and crime followed. God Help Flint if General Motors Pulls the Truck plant out. It really will be a wasteland.
