Thanks for the local update Rod, we have already been in touch with family on Cebu and Bohol, no one felt the shake. Of course the Pacific 'Ring of Fire', includes the 'Shakey Isles', down here where we are, i'm pleased to say we have not experienced any for awhile. And don't want to, LoL. Leptospirosis is a common contagious disease in SE Asia, also known to be carried by rats including in jungle area's. Several soldiers in my unit in Malaysia unfortunately caught this disease simply by accidentally brushing against low growing foliage and having a previous cut or injury on exposed skin. Generally they spent time in Military Hospital recovering. Take care Rod.

Agree, never walk through floodwaters. You can also get hepatitis, and serious infections if you have any open cuts or sores. Thanks for the video, Rod...Jim

Absolutely agree on the need for thinking ahead about potential problems. People tend to focus on short term issues and don't want to invest energy in things that may or may not happen. So many things could run smoother by planning for most contingencies. The added efforts are totally worth it.

I was in Davao and I didn’t feel anything. By the way, I was at immigration today and they no longer issue 6 month extensions. You might ask your guy about that. He said they recently got a memo canceling the 6 month extension for tourist visa. FYI

The 6 month extensions have been gone for several months now. Not sure if they will come back Gene.

Thanks for all the news. Just re-entered the Philippines. Didn't have fill out any paperwork on the plane with e travel. Because I did in November even though I had done e travel.

I had a cut on my foot once and had to wade out from Sabang Beach (Puerto Galera) to get in the days dive boat. By that afternoon I was in bed sick as a dog. The local doc said if I didnt improve soon I should go fast up to St. Lukes in Manila. Good thing my cheap room was directly behind the girlie bar. I only had to shuffle maybe 100 yards. It took ten days stuck there for me to recover.

Just returned from a family trip. We scheduled through NAIA instead of Cebu. We saved a lot by refusing flat raters.

Hi Rod. Great and useful video. A few notes - I didn't feel the quake. Also, when you *leave* the Philippines you have to use the new e-Travel app too. I got an email this afternoon and have already submitted the info. One other observation - plan on taking 30 minutes a day or two (or week or two) before you travel to register with eGov. You need to take a picture of your passport, and of yourself when doing that, which doesn't take too long, but more than 30 seconds for sure. Coming in I had no problems. Going out Monday morning we will see. And for the taxi's here in Cebu, at the airport on my way to the taxi rank I was offered a PHP1000 ride to Ayala Mall. Said no thanks and it immediately become PHP750. Said no and walked on to the white taxi rank - PHP 380 was what the meter came to when I got out at my hotel by Ayala Mall. I remember you mentioning that a few weeks ago on an earlier video. It's great to be back in Cebu, even if only for a couple of days. I'd love to have a chance to meet, but I've been busy here. Maybe next time. All the best!

One further update. Although my email from the airline definitely said the e-Travel had to be registered when you leave (and there is a place to do it in the app), the Immigration person who checked my documents in Manila said that it was only Philippine nationals who had to do so and foreigners only had to do it when arriving. Airlines are still getting things sorted I guess. Exit went smoothly, expect for the usual delays at NAIA.

I wonder if earthquakes damage coral reefs much? Good thing it wasn't on the other side, west, around famous Tubbataha Reef. Thats an unbelievable liveaboard diving area.

I enjoy the channel , you bring a different perspective to living in the Philippines, its general advice, you , Gio and JJ are the only ones who concentrate on getting there , the safest way to travel/ retire , I think most of the guys (like me) are really thinking about retiring in the Philippines. Thats why your information is a valuable resource. Thanks again 😊

No problem with the evisa, you can simply go to the evisa area and fill it out there, often there are assistants with expert fingers to help you fill it out on your phone. Best to fill it out before you leave your destination, just saying.

Cebu and Manila are horrible with the taxi drivers or any of that type especially when at Ferries, airports, etc so I have learned to walk far off from those areas AND ask them if they have a working meter otherwise I won't ride with them. Even then they pretend they cant do it..then they keep PUSHING their meter to speed rapidly even when asked to stop doing that. Many years of this...i walk long distance just to avoid them all!!

Why don't you buy an air conditioned car? I am in the process of trying to buy a car as we speak.. I will not use it all the time but I have plans and I need a car for my plans.. I have already sent my Filipino fiance / wife to driving school and even extra hours.. she has a big family but she is the first one in her family to have a motorcycle license And a driver's license.. I will also have cameras installed in the front and rear and after I give her some extra instructions she would do most all of the driving.. of course I will use local transportation because sometimes it is just so much more convenient.. I cannot walk far like you can but I wish I could because I would certainly do that..😮😊

There is not good time to walk in a flood in most countries and NEVER in a third world country as they have sewers or no sewers that are instantly flooded fouling all the water. Examples: Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, many countries. It's no insult of such countries it's just the way things are.
