  • I can't believe how beautiful it is here. I cant believe that I did not come to Croatia sooner. It is amazing. It might be the best country I have ever been to out of more than 50 countries so far. To be honest I had no expectations. I thought I would just travel a few weeks and enjoy but I could have stayed so much longer. The cities are beautiful. The people are as kind as can be. I loved everything about visiting Zagreb and cannot wait to see the rest of the country. Croatia is a very special Country. It is an excellent place for travel and safe to visit.

    About that part with the tablets you were wondering about: In 1731, the fire destroyed most of Zagreb. At the time, a shrine in the Stone Gate held a painting of the Virgin with the baby Jesus. It had not been touched by the fire. People come to the shrine, light a candle, and utter a prayer to the Mother of God. On the tablets there are words of gratitude to the Virgin Mary for the miracles people whose prayers she answered. And about the church (the cathedral) under construction - it was badly damaged in an earthquake couple of years ago.

      @@benjnachum :). No problem, I am glad you enjoyed Croatia. With all different problems we face economically and on many other levels, it was refreshing seeing it through a foreigner's eyes and videos like yours remind me to appreciate it more. Safe travels :)

    I was there in May. Fell in love! Will be returning for 3 months about in January. The building with the fancy roof is a church. It had sustained some damage in the earthquake in2020. They are repairing it. There are also other older buildings going through repairs.

    • @benjnachum
      @benjnachum  Před rokem +3

      You know I wish I knew more of the stories from Croatia. I feel like there was so much more to learn that I really missed. I don’t know how to explain it. There’s so much in the world I don’t know. I’ve been traveling a long time and often it feels like I barely scratch the surface of so many places. I try to spend at least a month in each country but being honest, it’s like tasting one bite of ice cream and knowing there’s 50 flavors available in every place. This is one of the best comments I’ve seen in a long time. Hope you’re having a really great day.

      @@benjnachum You passed under the Dragon hall, next to gatekeeper of Zagreb: the Gates of stone, over medieval cemetery, missed live cannon fire fired in memory of a legend, tiles on that funny church all have symbolic meaning, Monastery of Sisters of Carmel that have windows only painted on outer walls, houses that are built in old fortification city walls, gravestone of a little Paul in a building behind one of these ancient doors, wells in gardens of an old town, old public transportation powered by water, barely missed observatory, walked on a creek, close to a Bloody bridge, there's revolving restaurant 1km above Zagreb, another ancient fort (a "castle" Americans would call it) on the way- "Bearfort"- a triple wall fort holding the old legend of Black queen, a bit south there are roman excavations with written recipes that would curl your stomach and perfectly preserved wells, bathhouse and rails for donkey public transportation...this whole place, whole country is full of legends. Hit me up if you are ever in Zagreb again.

      And 90% of Croats live in their own home - that’s a huge bump to disposable income. Also whoever is capable has more than 2000€ net in Zagreb, unfortunately, there’s a huge amount of low-paying jobs so the average boils down to 1400€ net per month.
