  • Solar System Video showing the 8 planets of the Solar System orbiting the Sun. As we move out from Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, towards the gas giant planets of the outer Solar System, each of the planets take longer to orbit the sun.
    This video "How big is the Universe?" will blow your mind!
    • How Insignificantly Sm...
    The planets in order of size are;
    Mercury
    Mars
    Venus
    Earth
    Neptune
    Uranus
    Saturn
    Jupiter
    When listed in terms of distance from the Sun, the order is as follows;
    Mercury
    Venus
    Earth
    Mars
    Jupiter
    Saturn
    Uranus
    Neptune.
    All of the planets orbit the Sun in an anti-clockwise direction. Most also rotate on their axis in an anti-clockwise direction. The exceptions to this rule are;
    Uranus - Which rotates on it's end like a bowling ball
    Venus - Which rotates clockwise, but very slowly.
    Venus rotates so slowly that a day on planet Venus is longer than a year!
    The planet with the fastest rotation in Jupiter, which rotates every 10 hours. So fast that it causes the planet to flatten out a little.
    In this Solar System video, the distance between the planets is not to scale. In the real Solar System the distances are vast.
    The size of the planets in this Solar System video is also just an indication of their relative size. In reality Jupiter is many more times the size of the Earth.
    The planets would also not create shadows on each other as they do in this video.
    Other bodies that exist in the Solar System but are not included in this Solar System video include, The Dwarf Planets (of which Pluto is one), The asteroid belt (which sits between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter), and the Ort Cloud (which sits beyond the orbit of Neptune)
    I hope you find this Solar System useful. Feel free to use it for educational purposes in your classroom when teaching kids about the Solar System.

    I've always been extremely attracted to the solar system. The universe is so fascinating that I could never get bored of it. I've been wishing to travel in space since I was 8 or 9 years old, as soon as I found out that planets exist. I am 28 now, and I still have that dream, and I still hope that one day I will do it. Knowledge and thinking are the most precious gift of humanity, and getting to know the universe is beyond anything that a human can dream of.

    The time direction switches at around 1:40, when we start following Earth. You can tell by the shape of Earth's continents that we are always looking "down" from north pole, and before 1:40, orbits and rotations are counterclockwise, after 1:40 they are clockwise. Aside from this oversight, very cool video!

    It says in this video that our Solar System planets rotate counterclock-wise around the Sun, but that perception would change if you looked at the Solar Systen from the oposite side of the general planetary orbital plane, from where it would look to the observer as if the planets were rotating clockwise around the Sun.

    I think somewhere around 3rd grade when learning about the solar system and science that it was so fascinating that I was either going to spend my entire life doing it, or I had to walk away from the idea completely 😆 it opens your mind to depths that you can't even imagine, yet understanding that the depths opened might not be enough to fully understand. I think the turning point may have been as simple as me asking a question, and the teacher not having an answer that I could understand. I was either gonna become a scientist or a bum 😆 there was no in-between lol

    Good illustration of the prograde revolution of all the 8 planets (counter-clockwise in the convention). The retrograde (clockwise) rotation of Venus and Uranus was not depicted, but that's ok.. However, you did switch to earth's perspective, in which Earth's rotation seemed retrograde, with sun rising in the West.. This is misleading though.

      No, it doesn't. There's a difference between REVOLUTION and ROTATION. Venus and Uranus REVOLVE (i.e., circle the Sun) in the same direction as the other planets, but ROTATE (i.e., spin on their axes) in the opposite direction. That said, Venus' rotation is not correctly depicted in the video.

  • @hfilipenk

    What clever inertia!
    The movements of the planets are explained in various theories with the participation of some inertia. So the rotation of all the planets around the Sun in one direction is provided by a certain force and inertia. The daily rotations of the planets in one direction around their own axes are again first provided by a certain force and subsequent inertia.
    Doesn't the assumption arise about a certain medium that the Sun rotates and thereby rotates the planets around itself in one direction? And the environment with its layers rotates in one direction rotates the planets around their axes. I note that the closer the planet is to our star, the faster it revolves around the Sun. And the larger the diameter of the planet, the faster it rotates through the layers of the medium around its own axis. The patterns are there.

    • @johncolarusso7469
      @johncolarusso7469 Před 9 lety +1

      Nope the planet rotation is correct for earth in the model. What is incorrect is the relative speed of each planet's orbit. For instance the earth should make 84 orbits before Uranus makes one and should make 12 orbits before Jupiter makes one.

      ***** If done to the correct scale of space even if the smallest planet Mercury were represented by one pixel the distance between the sun and Neptune would be almost a million pixels. My current monitor is 1680 pixels wide so it would take over 55 of my monitors lined up end to end to see an accurate scale of space.
