I'm a big fan of Dominique. Mostly for this game but I also really liked this interview. Gracious and classy. He talked about Bird putting his team on his back but Dominique pretty much did the same thing for his team in this game. He gets recognition but I still think he's underappreciated.
To this day that is the best game I've ever witnessed. People remember the 4th quarter shootout between Nique and Bird, but, as Doc alluded to, that whole game was well played. The game just built to a crescendo and in the 4th quarter it seemed like every basket by Bird or Nique was the dagger, only to be matched by the other on the ensuing possession.
Wilkins is such a great storyteller. Love it! 🤘
That duel was awesome but nobody talks about who set that up for Boston...McHale had 30+ points through 3 quarters literally carrying the team until Bird took over in the 4th.
Excellent observation
Young people these days claim the Bird and McHale would NOT be in NBA today because they are unfit. What do you say to those outrageous claims?
The 80-year old lady at the Boston airport prior to Game 7: "Hey Rivers, you thought you weren't coming back, didn't you?" 😂...
My favorite game of all time. Watched it with my six year old son two nights ago actually and he liked it too.
I remember seeing this gm in a Shopko. Every tv in the electronics dept had the game on. The was a very enthusiastic crowd of ppl watching and hanging on every play. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Basically the legend Larry's last great healthy bit of dominance towards the end classic !
nique is a helluva stand up dude and definitely one of if not the most underrated players ever!
Love my Celtics!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🏀🏀🏀
Heyo! Boston Fan Alert! Love the Teams!
We need a documentary !!
I'm an old school 90's Knicks fan .. basically more of a college fan in the 80's but I find myself a big belated Wilkins fan.
The goaltending call by Hugh Evans w/ :16 left in the game was correct b/c Doc missed slapped his hand on the glass while the ball was on the rim. You can clearly see the backboard and rim shaking after the missed layup. CBS showed definitive replays before the game ended which also contradict Doc's claim that he partially blocked the shot.
Dominique is the coolest
Danny committed a cardinal sin at 8:40 by not using his left hand and it almost cost him dearly. Every coach should show this clip.
@Barry White Overall, Danny was a solid player, though.
Luhh Me some 'Nique!
Love it. If you don’t like that! You don’t like NBA basketball!
I'm a Hawks fan. #ijs

Yeah, McHale had to guard Dominique, which is a mismatch. That was the trade off for the Celtics playing two centers essentially. Teams had trouble guarding against the Celtics size but McHale or Bird was often left having to guard the Dominique/Worthy types. I think Worthy was one of the reasons the Celtics drafted Bias.
Pierce-Lebron in 2008 game 7 ECSF was one that matched it for me.
Doc has a voice like Harvey Fierstein.
Kevin McHale actually had a better game than Bird but as usual Bird gets all the credit. McHale carried Boston for the first three quarters with his offense, rebounding, and four blocks before Bird took over in the fourth quarter.
Well, in this case it's only natural that Bird gets all the credit. The fourth quarter is the deciding quarter and the shootout between Bird and Dominique was spectacular. Had the roles been reversed then I'm sure McHale would have gotten all the credit.
I'm not saying that it's fair. I'm just saying that this is how it works and that it's natural that it works that way. Compare with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Pippen's contribution to the Bulls' defense was of major importance, yet Jordan would get the headlines every day of the week.
Young people these days claim that Bird and McHale would NOT be in NBA today because they are physically unfit. What do you say to those outrageous claims?
I say that many of the nba players today cannot even shot correctly, so they would NOT be in the NBA. Their shooting techniques are worse than WNBA girls.
Many young people are stupid. They can't help it.
First
I hated Boston.. Dominique Wilkins just couldnt get passed them.
