Kathopanishad Day 49 - Talk in English by Swami Aparajitananda, Chinmaya Mission Chicago-Yamunotri.
    Hari Om!
5th Mantra of the 6th Valli:
Swamiji provides insights on why we should turn towards the Supreme Self. The mantra reveals the following points:
    1. Great Truths about the various Worlds: The mantra reveals significant truths about various worlds.
    2. Seeing the Self in Martyaloka (the Mortal World): It explains how easy it is to see our own Self in this world.
    3. Self in Pitṛloka (the World of Ancestors): It describes how the Self is perceived in the world of ancestors.
    4. Self in Gandharvaloka (the World of Celestial Beings): It explains how the Self is seen in the world of gandharvas.
    5. Travel to Pitṛloka and Gandharvaloka: It discusses why certain people journey to these worlds.
    6. Narakloka (Hell): why doesn’t the verse mention about narakloka.
7.Difficulty of reaching Brahmāloka (the World of Brahma): It highlights why it is challenging to attain Brahmāloka.
The purpose of this mantra is to encourage efforts towards self-realization in the present world, affirming that this life is the best opportunity for it.
6th Mantra of the 6th Valli:
This mantra addresses how to gain the right understanding essential for Self-knowledge. Swamiji revises concepts from Tatvabodha, discussing the origin of the senses. The key distinctions between the Supreme Self and the world (which includes our body, mind, and intellect) are highlighted to foster the right understanding (Vivek). The ultimate truth is characterized by the following attributes:
    1. Causelessness: The ultimate truth must be causeless.
    2. Impermanence: What comes and goes cannot be the ultimate truth.
    3. Everlasting Existence: It must be ever-existent.
    4. Constant Reality: The ultimate reality should never be absent.
Right thinking leads to becoming 'dhīrā' (wise). Swamiji explains the outcomes of spiritual wisdom, the nature of sorrow, and the way to transcend it, emphasizing that there is nothing to grieve, as everybody dies, but the Self remains undying.
Swami Chinamayanada use to say- Every body dies, nobody dies.
7th Mantra of the 6th Valli:
This mantra elaborates on the sadhana (practice) required to firmly abide in the Self. To determine the superiority of things, the following rules are applied:
    1. Sūkṣmatva (Subtlety): The subtle is superior to the gross.
    2. Mahatvat (Pervasiveness): That which pervades is superior to what is pervaded.
    3. Pratyagātmaka (Inwardness): The inner is superior to the outer.
    4. Kāraṇatva (Causality): The cause is superior to the effect.
    5. Niyamakātva (Control): The controller is superior to the controlled.
These principles are used to establish the hierarchy of superiority among entities. The importance of the vision of oneness is discussed, aiding the sadhaka (practitioner) in developing their personality.
8th Mantra of the 6th Valli:
This mantra explores what is greater than avyakta (the unmanifested). It introduces the Parampuruṣa (Supreme Self), pure consciousness, and elaborates on the nature of the Self. Knowing this, a being (jantu) is liberated and attains immortality. The mantra discusses when we experience mortality and what should be done to experience immortality. The guidance from śruti mata (the Vedic scriptures) is to seek the Self. Just as we are attracted to the seen tree and not its unseen roots, total spiritual sadhana involves withdrawing attention from the seen world and focusing on the unseen Supreme Self. In devotional terms, this is akin to holding onto the lotus feet of God.
    Conclusion:
The teachings emphasize the importance of self-realization in this life and the need for right understanding and sadhana to perceive the Supreme Self. The next class will focus on how to know the Self.

Amazing journey from gross to subtle through various lokas.
    Know yourself through__
    (Bhuloka,pitrloka,gandharvloka n brahmaloka.)
Brahmaloka entry is the best but restricted.
But for us Bhuloka entry is accessible n permitted.
In this, from grosser to subtle in sadhna we revel.
Travel from mind to intellect to hiranyagarbh to unmanifest level.
From unmanifest to pure conciousness there is no birth, death or tomorrow.
Body exists within the boundary of time, space n full of sorrow.
Pure conciousness is all pervading ,subtle n primary root.
It is unseen, timeless, causeless n without any attribute.
With axe of detachment chop off this sansar tree.
Pay attention ,withdraw from the world, focus on unseen n be free.
    Regards n pranams Swamiji.
