It’s funny that his “weaknesses” coming out of college like relying on his shot too much, and shooting too many threes, turned into his biggest weapons/strengths.

This reminds me of a Super Mario Sunshine speedrunner named "Nindiddeh" who always went for the craziest strategies that required millimetre, millisecond precision to pull off, let alone consistently. People in the community poked fun at him for that, especially with how many runs he'd lose to strategies he didn't need to do, but went for anyway to chase every last split-second he could find.
To give some context, SMS was already very optimized at this point, hovering around the 1 hour 15 minute mark. Speedrunners would focus more on consistency to improve smaller errors made. Even so, you tended to see a new record every few months and only by a couple of seconds.
Nindiddeh, kept going, however, striving to slowly become consistent with his insane strategies. It seemed like he wasn't going anywhere at first, but he knew what his antics were worth if he mastered them.
The payoff? Not only did he post the world's first sub-1:14, but also broke the record by some _20 seconds,_ a huge improvement by today's optimized standards, even with a death costing a not insignificant amount of time. Since then, other speedrunners would work tirelessly to close the gap between him and the titanic canyon Nindiddeh had carved out for himself, attempting to perfect those exact same strategies.
It would take over _two more years_ for that record to be finally shattered by JJ SRL, six months ago at the time of writing, by 30 seconds.
*TL;DR:* Sometimes, crazy strats can work out in the long run, even if they don't get you anywhere now, and can potentially change the way the game is played.

Steph would've still been a really good player without Steve Kerr, but Kerr came in with that Spurs and Suns scheme and philosophy of better spacing and ball movement. As a result Steph was UNLEASHED.

Suns, Spurs AND Bulls triangle offense. Can’t forget he played on the greatest team ever.
Kerr was really the other key, the other being Steph. Both could not have been great without the other.

I remember that season when he got snubbed for the All Star game. It was him for the west and josh smith for the east. You could tell that curry was about to go over the top and explode at any moment.

Sam yeah only reason i even remembered him was because he and curry were some of my early favorite up and coming players when i first started watching. Boy am I glad that Curry didn't have a similar career to Josh Smith.
Before we had Steph Curry, we had Monta Ellis, and it’s so amazing that Steph is who he is because when the Warriors parted ways with Monta, us fans were beyond upset; it’s great to know our worries weren’t validated

Eh, fans who were paying attention to the importance of the tank that year (needing to finish with a top 7 pick to avoid sending it to Utah), in addition to the glaring weaknesses Monta had both in efficiency and defense, were all for the Bogut trade. Yea, Lacob got booed. But after so many years of Cohan pulling dumb shit + the Webber and Arenas fiascos, I think most Dubs fans were just pissed to see the last fun memory of We Believe go away (since Biedrins became total garbage by that point).

I suppose you could say, even if "Harden is everything that went wrong with the Modern NBA." that agrees with my point. He and Curry ARE the Modern NBA, even if somethings are undesired.
After all, me being bald is still part of the Modern Me.
I don't deny that most prefer GSWs beautiful play, which is the pinnacle of Pop's Spurs and D'Antoni's Suns. And it is highly effective, as well as attractive.
Kind of like how Brazil plays Football.
But even saying that, I would have to say, I doubt if these GSW would have 3 Rings had KD gone to, say, the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets, even with their ISO heavy play, nearly toppled the Warriors.
Give them KD, and it would have been them beating LeBron's Cavs a couple of times.
** I must acknowledge, I don't like Harden flopping or fishing for fouls.
And I think that actually stops people from enjoying the skill and mastery Harden actually possesses.

Do you like Luka Doncic's style of play?
The reason I ask is because I think he is actually a kind of a remix of James Harden.
He's seems like a case of "what would James Harden be if James Harden focused more on being a Point Guard than an ISO Scorer?"
Harden was actually a solid Point Guard in OKC.
But he and D'Antoni decided the best use of him would be as a Ball Dominant Scorer.
That is why Luka is so fun, he is kind of like "what if Harden wasn't used as a Ball Dominant Scorer?"
And Harden is a case of "what would Manu Ginobili been like if he wasn't a team first 6th man, but actually got to be THE Star on his team"?
As you can see, I love watching the possibilities blossom.

I don't think many will follow the Harden ISO ball model.
So I don't think you have to worry about it becoming THE way the Modern NBA goes.
@@willhooke Thanks for the thorough reply. I enjoyed reading your point of view. And I agree to most of what you said. It is the "Analytics" pushes Harden into such an extreme way of playing and purely focus on very few tasks during the game: ISO, Step back three, make pass to an immediate three point shooting from another player. The lob is even being taken away since they traded Capella this year. Just like coach Nick said, Harden's craft is amazing but it will take a lot more for Curry to evolve all these years to perfect his craft. I DO think Curry is on another level than the rest of the league simply because his off ball movement can lead to so many possibilities and some of them don't necessarily have to involve him in a play directly. That's why a lot of what Curry does on the court cannot be translated into stats. But real professional coaches knows Curry's value in a game, a series, a season and even a player's whole career. I can tell you are a fan of Harden and to be honest since GSW was not so good, I started watching more of Harden's game and I admit that his offensive ability is incredible boarder line INSANE. I don't think Curry would be able to sustain playing like Harden. And just like you said if somehow Harden can figure out another way to involve his teammate more and "sacrifice" his stats for the team, they might be a better team. I was intrigued to see how far they can go this year. In another word, the reason Modern NBA does not like (or not follow) Harden that much, it is for the same reason they like Curry: - The league cannot do what these two can do to their level.

He's not a one and done player. He spent 3 years in Davidson
therefore when he went to the NBA he wasn't so raw and progressed much faster, compared to a one and done player.
I love how fundamentally SOLID he is, even though I wish he made more simple passes instead of trying to go for the flashy ones. Him doing that literally cost him a championship! I think he might've been a one-and-done had he gone to a bigger school (like Kentucky, or Kansas). He had to build himself up to become an NBA prospect cuz of the school he went to and the doubts about his body.

Mahmoud Abdur-Rauf is widely considered by NBA legends to be "Curry before Curry". He was taking & making a lot of long 3s and was an amazing shooter with a great handle. His Denver team was one of the teams that Beat the Bulls in that 72-10 season!
Nash was more of a classic pass-first PG, who used the threat of his elite shooting to open the floor for himself and his teammates. He would only go off if his team needed him to score, but his instinct was to pass 1st.

A lot of what makes Curry as good as he is is simply his confidence. That’s why 2016 curry was special. He was confident to the point where he was almost arrogant and it was soo much fun to watch.

Well done, Coach.
Felt like this was one of those videos that was in development back when curry was at his highest in popularity. But as time went on, the video never got out of production and took a back seat. Then at this time when no new topics came up due to the nationwide lockdown, this video got taken out of the freezer and finally saw the light of day again there is just so much time to take a look at those old videos that never got completed. Maybe cos there was no time, or the topic, being hot at the time, just got irrelevant so quickly as new and trendy topics came up.
But i dont know. Just felt like that to me. I still love the basketball fix of course! Is great to reflect back on curry's and the warriors' rise to power, especially when there is no basketball games/season/interviews to look at right now.

And then you could compare where they were at in their progress each year.
Curry was born in 88, Harden in 89, and both Drafted in 09.
And why I am interested in this is because they in many ways are opposites, yet there are a lot of similarities too.
ISO King and Movement King.
And given how great Steph and those Warriors were, should make people see how great Harden's Rockets were.
Though the Warriors consistently got the W, the Rockets gave them a hard time.

I think it also is worth noting that his injuries early in his career led warriors fans to doubt what he was capable of. He was going to be great no doubt, but his constant ankle issues struck a lot of fear for the future and it was just that much sweeter that he was able to become SC30 we know today. We love you Steph, I remember high fiving you coming out the tunnel in your rookie season in 2009. Then hitting a half court shot to end the game lol

Not really, we've had crazy 3 point shooters before like Reggie Miller, Ray Allen and Larry Bird. Guys like Damian Lillard, Kyle Korver and Trae Young who can also shoot from distance. But Lillard, Allen and Miller are more clutch.

I remember his rookie year. When the Dubs drafted him I was worried we were trying to draft a replacement for Monte because it seemed like the dubs were constantly looking for replacement Montes at that time. Anyways he gave Warrior fans a lot of hope in his rookie year and I remember he got a triple double as a rookie which made all of us super excited.
Curry is 2 years younger than me but he is my GOAT. The guy is such a wonderful professional, person, family man and a teammate. Hopefully we'll see more in coming seasons and after he retires.
The most insane thing about Steph is that any long distance last second shot for him is just a long distance shot. Any other player who makes it, you kind of feel that there is bit of luck involved but when Steph shoots it, you EXPECT it to go in with a good percentage. You treat it like a three point shot or a free throw with a legit chance of making them. THAT IS INSANE!
In the late 80's and the 90's there was this commercial slogan that says "I wanna be like Mike", and almost everyone really wanted to be like Mike.The shorts, the shoes, the fadeaways, the post up moves and so on.On present day, no commercial slogan at all but Steph Curry changed the game and 'everyone wants to shoot like Steph, and wants to have a handle like Steph"!!
